Really though just show him the Ricer Compilation video over and over again until he figures out that a huge wing on a FWD car is mostly for looks and actually decreases the handling due to the downforce being icreased in the rear causing the front end to lift more. He could also just slap a Spoon or Mugen badge on his car and hopes that someone believes him.

I think some of you are missing the point here. Why is it that you are making fun of the Honda for being "rice"? Honda's aren't rice, it's what poeple do to them. There's just a lot more honda's out there. In % ricers, Toyota probably has just as many. And I know there are 6gc ricers, and even 3S ricers. I just want to see the Honda bashing stop. Those are dang good cars. If no one believes me, I'll trade my celica for one, and then put as much money in to it as I have in my celica, and stomp you at the track.

I don't think Hondas in general are rice, IMO rice is just taking any beater and trying to turn it into a race car by throwing a trash can under the bumper and putting this huge wing on it (who needs a 4 inch exhaust on a N/A motor), plus a Civic would need a pretty nice suspension to hang with a Celica on a track, (circuit). I think Civics are bashed because they aren't even sports cars, S2000 is a sports car, a Civic is a poor college kid car and that is why they became so common, take the same year Celica GT and Civic EX and you will almost always pay more for the Celica since it's a sports car. Plus for some reason our government decided to pick on Toyota when importing them into America (i.e. lack of the 3S, stop selling the Supra). I know Honda makes the Si but it's just a Civic with a little better motor in it, i'll still run with a stock one doesn't matter what year, that 160 hp is way over rated.

And I'm not talking about my personal driving skills, I'm talking about the numbers. Unless you go for the 3S swap, or do a turbo, you have nothing. I don't care if the car does handle well. I have a 94 GT with the sports supension package, and I must admit it does handle very nice, but handling will only get you so far.

normally i would agree on this, however, i just heard from a friend of my who competed in an autox near his school(penn state) that the fast car on the track that day was a fwd car...im not sure what make and modle, but i do know it beat out a hand full 240sx's...really it depends on the driver...a fwd car can be just as good of a car if it's built right and the driver knows what he/she is doing...jus my two cents, but then again opinions are like assholes, everyone's got them and they all stink

I completely agree. The Celica isn't a sports car. Its a sporty compact. And run for run (as used in an example eariler) a stock Celica GT and a stock Civic EX are about equal in speed. Celica out handles, Civic out gas-pumps. And please understand that the Celica isn't a UBER-performer on the track stock. Yes it handles nice, but its no Evo. Now, you can boast about handling if you have a Mazda, but just take the good with this car. And the honda D16=bad people. OMG. Wake up buddies. The D16 is 10 times the engine the 5S wants to be. I have to agree that the ignorant "hondas suck" response is childlike in so many ways. And I dont even like Hondas!!!!

And to reinstate my thought - which of the two cars is still being made?

hey dMc, why dont we just put my 4agze celica on the line with my d16 civic. You can drive which ever one you want. See which one out performs, and which motor im willing to blow. While were at it, lets put a bottle in the civic. That way, i can blow the motor and do a H22 turbo swap. But that will be after i transplant an eclipse gst motor into the laser.

dont the vtec d16's only have like 130hp at the crank?

that makes for like 110hp at the wheels.

i dont see how any turbo that a SOHC 1.6l engine could spool would make for a 130WHP gain at only 9psi

i might be able to belive 240 crank hp at 9psi, if it had a great tune

The only way a civic engine is any good is to find yourself a nice 1970's Mini Cooper, and build the SH*T out of that.... we'll say b18c5 (type-R i believe, i wouldnt know as i dont care too much).. after your engine is built then throw it in the Mini (they have a b16 conversion kit) now what you have is a badas* little car. It weighs less, and therefore has more useable HP. The crappy thing about our Celi's is that they weigh so much, so our HP is too busy just trying to move its own fat as*... could you imagine a 3S in a Mini...... that would turn me on....

Scion is NOT the SPORTS CAR Line. The next Supra wont be a Scion. The next Altezza is still badged an IS. Scions (ex. Tc) share their engines with the Toyota Echo. Yea, real sports cars there. They are cheap college cars. Get it right. The Tc is a 3000lb 160HP 2.4L cheap car. Its not a Celica. Its not replacing the Celica. Its not even built in Japan. Tc doesn't have to mean Toyota Celica. Could mean Toyota Coupe. The Coupe. True Coupe. Toyota Car. Hell, Tc is endless. Stop being silly people, and please please stop acting as if Mr. Toyota is your next door neighbor and gives you inside info we all dont know.

If you'd like to prove me wrong - find one article that says the Tc is a replacment to the Celica. Thanks.

EDIT: I sale Hondas. The Si is lightweight and also is 160. It eats the Tc up. And the new Si (2006) shares its beautiful design with the current RSX-S. So expect a coupe with 200+ ponies. Then again... not much to em' (blah!)

To answer you're comment on the tC vs. Si read the Car and Driver test and even though the tC is heavy it's almost as fast as the IS. I found that much on 1 minute of searching. The Si isn't much faster than a lightly modded 6th Gen GT, I know for a fact and from 70 up that extra gear doesn't help the Si's that I run against.

I also didn't say Sports Car line I said sports line i.e car, compact, probably utility vehicle at their rate.

If he goes with that route just try not to put a big muffler or whatever Honda guys do, the Civic has about the worst sound of any import I know of, that high pitch 2 cycle weed eater sound.

I'm all for the sleeper man. But what's with not liking the sound? I love that high piched sound. Of course, I did grow up racing 2 stroke dirtbikes. Mazda also sounds real high piched, espesially the 2.8 (I think) V6. At least the one I heard was.

It's mostly just opinion but if you go for a sleeper someone can tell you're coming from a mile away with a bigger exhaust, also the biggest mistake people make is thinking the bigger the exhaust the better the performance so they put a 3-4 inch exhaust on a N/A car. Unless you are planning on a single exhaust V8 or turbo anything over 2 1/2 will be a waste and the stock exhaust shouldn't hinder N/A perfromance much at all, ultimate sleeper can run circles around a Vette but the Vette driver would never think it. As far as my preference I have a 2" that sounds like an I6, when at idle it's pretty calm but bringing it past 4000 it sounds nice and deep.

On the sports car thing, the only imports in the Celica's class that can come close to being sports cars are the Miata and the Prelude, Civics and Eclipses aren't really sporty enough they don't have that RWD looking stance I guess. Just because the Celica gets beat by a lot of cars on the road doesn't mean it can't hold it's own, the 5S is under powered but it still runs with or outruns the competition (I personally believe they should have at least had enough to beat out the Si in straight line performance). The Celica runs well against Neons, Eclipse RS/GS, Civic EX, and lesser Preludes, think of the early 80's Vette it was a sports car but it could get owned by most of the cars on the road, it really didn't have good handling it only had 200HP coming out of a V8, it was junk compared to most Vettes but it looked like a Vette so it was still a sports car. Just because a car can't run with 200+HP cars doesn't mean it isn't a sports car, it just means that Toyota yanked the engine out and slapped an economy engine in it.

dude i saw video of a stock si vs a tc wit an axle back...the tc RAPES the si ...i mean it was brutal..ill try n find the video. Yes i no the potential of the si. My friend ran a boosted ep3 wit rev hard kit n ran a 13.1 wit a ****ty driver n a broken motor mount. he recently sold that kit n bout a cybernation kit for the k20a2 (rsx type s ?). now hes waitin for the rsx engine
