racing a 7th gen GTS, what do you guys think Options

I disagree with the others, i think you will win. gts is 180 hp stock, yours is 135 stock, run like 8-10 boost and you will be at the 200s range. ad some more boost if you can and you will destroy him.

if you beat him from a roll you should have no problem from a stand still. you have way more torque at lower rpm, you should smoke him pretty easily

The GT-S has alright horsepower, but less torque than a stock 5SFE, if you don't get him on take off you're either starting in third or your clutch just went out.

i've raced my friend's 7th Gen GTS before but it's a steptronic transmission.mods was just a S-AFC and Greddy EVO 2 exhaust. they are alittle faster than my 5sfe and i have a pretty hard time keeping up with him.. but it ain't that fast. with a 5sfte i'm pretty confident you'll be able to beat him.

my cousin and my other cousin's boyfriend have celica GTS. Depending on mods, I am not sure if you could or not. I know the GTS is faster than the Acura RSX Type S. I know firsthand, because this guy has a type S with headers, intake, and exhaust and he lost both with rolling and dead stop to my cousin's GTS. My cousin has the TRD clutch, AEM CAI, and TRD extended exhaust. My cousin's boyfriend's GTS is completely gutted with straight pipe full suspension with intake and limited weight and he can keep up with a S2000 and kill the type S. Soooo.....if people say its hard for a celica w/ the 3sgte swapped in to beat an Acura type S, then I think it'll be hard for YOU to be the GTS also.

if he pulls away key word (if)it will be 3rd gear when he does. that 3rd gear in japanese cars will do u in. i mean the second seems like it builds up power then the 3rd u just take off.

I raced my friends GTS on the interstate from about a 65 mph roll till 120. He has an automatic and I was had about a half a car lead until around 95 when i shifted and he hit lift lol. then he pulled about a car on me.

I would take out the spare tire, and the back seat, and the passenger seat, and the alternater belt if I were you. I think it's going to be a close race, you need every little edge you can get. The alternater belt might be going a little to far, but have fun with it.

honestly, i think you will def have him off the line, but i def think he will leave you on top end.. i have a 03gts.. they dont have ungodly power or anything, but they are pretty damn lightweight... either way, celica vs celica, neither ones a loser:)

Of course the GT-S will take it on top end the GT tops out at 125.

if you have a turboed 5s u should def beat him. u have a 2.2L compared to a 1.8 he has the better head but thats nothing compared to the turbo

Umm.... just going out on a limb here.... call me crazy.... BUT THEY ARE BOTH JAPANESE!

And guys, why does everyone think variable valve timing is the craziest thing ever. The worse thing is you all seem to think toyota's vvt-i and vvtl-i is the best variable valve timing out there. If no one noticed toyota was actually late to the whole variable valve timing game, atleast here in the US. Honda's vtec is just as or better then toyota's, and nissan just has it, they dont boast about it and put emblems all over their cars and engines... its just there. Everyone here needs to stop thinking toyota is the god's of car making, YES I agree toyota makes a great car but its not the only maker that does.

And vvt-i, vvtl-i, vtec, what ever fancy thing you want to name it will never give an engine anywhere near the power gains of a turbo... Example: 3s-ge had like 175hp, then got gains of up to like 20-25hp in its final stage in the altezza with vvt. And 3s-gte's have always had over 200hp and were up to 250hp with no vvt.

I agree with Chrobis, Toyota isn't he greatest thing on the planet. That's not saying that they are a bad company. As far as styling, I think they've got just about everyone beat, but the tecnology just isn't what others have. Funny how everything is so reliable though. Maybe it's just the performance side of things that they're lacking on. You have to go to Lexus before they sell any real sports cars now.

On a different note, I want to hear how this went. Who won? What's the deal? If it didn't happen yet, when is it going to? I'm actually pretty exited about hearing this. Keep us posted man!
