does the turbo have to be made specifically for our cars or can you use any turbo with just some extra parts?

you can use any turbo in the world as long as it will bolt up to your exhaust manifold.
but some turbos are better flowing then others for the motor you plan to boost. This post has been edited by lagos: May 5, 2005 - 4:48 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

No you can use almost any turbo you want But make sure its not to big your you are going to have a alot of lag all you need is log manifold or equal length with a flange that fits the turbo and thats 1/2 the battle done. i just used your average Garrett T3 for my old 7afte set up -------------------- yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

A turbocharger is inherently more efficient, using energy that is just being wasted by the engine, a super charger has no boost lag however (in theory) because it is directly belt driven off the engine (parasitic). It really depends on what your application is going to be for boosting, but turbochargers are rapidly progressing to the point that they're better in almost any situation.
A turbo would also prolly be cheaper to set up on a 5sfe, or 7afe, well not just probably i'm sure it is. -------------------- AIM : FAQdaWorld

i wasnt even going to get a supercharger i was just wondering how different they were in performance and that makes a lot more sense using exhaust to power instead of engine power

If you want to run a s/c you'll need to get a centrifugal (Vortec, Procharger) since the design is like a turbo, you'll also need a custom bracket and piping. The drawback is there will be some lag (very little) and you can't boost as high, plus in the end you'll probably spend more. The only roots type is the Ripp version and it's got hood clearance issues that are being worked on now due to the fact it was designed for Camry.

if i do anything it will be a turbo it seems to be a lot easier and i hate working with belts there hard to get tight enough, i took off my power steering and i had to use a 12" nail to use as a lever
