well, lately my job has been going really well, and promotion seems to be in the cards very soon, so i've been thinking about getting a fun lil beater/second car that I could occupy my spare time with. I've always loved cars and now that I'll have the assests to tinker around with one I have some ideas in my head. Anyways, I've been thinking I'd really like a 4A-GE powered car to mess with because of the insanely fun redline and challenge to learn how to run it quickly properly, plus the mass amounts of support (for a toyota), are nice little bonuses. Two cars Have came across my mind, and for those knowlegable in these choices, plus the 4A-GE in general, I'd love to hear your opinions...

My practical, and more affordable idea is a 88-91 corolla coupe (AE92)... They seem to possibly a sleeper of a choice, but i honeslty dont have much of a clue how they drive or if the FWD chassis responds well with the 4A... I know it would be cheaper than my second choice, but not sexy by any means... I do like the idea of a WTF was that kind of car, however biggrin.gif

My other, more "cool" choice is a first gen MR2 (AW11). However, I recognize the difficulty of driving a Mid engine, rear drive vehilce, not to mention the lack of easy to find components involved with the car... the tradeoffs, however, I think speak for themselves... it seems it would be more a worthy money hole, so to speak... honestly i dont know if it would be worth it, or if I could even find a worthwhile donor car easily seeing as i live in the rust belt... Right now its just an idea I like more than just buying a new car... So if anybody knows a thing or two about these cars (kwanza your advise is wanted!)- help me out in my decision smile.gif

find an older one (AW11 85-86 hard top) I believe they are lighter. Get a small port or 20v silvertop engine and transmssion to swap (the early AW11's had bad trannys).

I personally would run a boosted silvertop in a AW11. You know, nice NA power plus a few pounds of boost. Best of both worlds.

the parts arent that hard to find. Go to MR2OC... ask and you shall find.

Plus, the MR2 rides on rails. wink.gif

id go MKi MR2, get a stock one, get some nice sticky tires (Azenis RT-615s) and head out to a local SCCA autocross event (find one at myautoevents.com) you'll be hooked for life, and wont even have to drop more than 3 grand.
