GT-4 vs Eclipse, on paper can i beat them Options

so this friday our club is meeting up with the Moscow Eclipse club.......

Now we all know that some of us will have a bit of fun with some racing (drag)..

forget about the drivers for the moment,......

will a stock GT-4 JDM beat the turboed Eclipse (4wd) ????????


whatever happens i'll try and get some photo's of the meet for next week


I know someone on this site has some info on eclipes, or even has one !!!!!
the stock GT.4 can push 0 - 60 in 6.1 sec......... and the eclipse ???

well, if your specs are the same for the eclipse as in the states, I believe it has about 200 hp, compared to your 255. I don't think there would be too much of a weight difference.

a '99 eclipse GSX is AWD, and the GS-T has same exact motor (same stats) but it is FWD, i assume he is talking about the GSX

eclipse gsx is the same thing as a talon tsi. and it being awd will give him the advantage, especially on the launch.

hey i did the bridging of the intercooler and but the box in the front arch was already removed........... 6 tanks of benzin and i've seen no change in fuel or proformance....... so my baby was already bridged somewhere or need some work somewhere else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a 97-99 GSX is about 100lbs lighter then the 95-96. I have a 96 GSX and they run 14.8's. If he is a good driver and has the 97-99 he should be able to run a 14.5, but if he has fe/i/bc then i would say your gonna lose.

the GT-4 is also AWD with more HP and torque, so there is no way the talon(eclipse) could take him, unless of course you REALLY suck at shifting, lol.

I've owned and hang out with people that have DSMs, they're easy to mod but if the Eclipse is stock you'll smoke it, but if he put a 16G on it you might lose or tie.

well most of the time if they have the 16g turbo, they have more done then just that (well the guy i know with one does) and his is fast. but i dont know much about cleicas seeing i just got mine, and this forum is a lil smaller then other so im learning slowly

I think the GSX and TSi AWD had about 10 more horsepower also to compensate for the added weight. (Like 10 hp will make a difference with 300 lbs.)

You`ll only see a difference if there was a problem in the first place. Check your error codes and see what comes up - slightly off topic there, noone else will know what we are on about.
Good luck with the Eclipse (not that you`ll need it), hope you show him the way home.

The eclipse was released in Japan of course, but in 4G version only, the Talon was never released in Japan because Eagle was created by Chrysler to be a US manufacturer that sold Renault sedans and bombed.

I'm sorry but the Eclipse if it is modded will probably take you. But it will be close. To give you guys a good idea of how easy eclipses gain power off addons is the Apexi N1 full turbo back exhaust. Any of the turboed Eclipses will get 14-22 HP just off the exhaust alone.

Then if he has the EVOIII Big16g turbo. He obviously has the engine modded with 440+ injectors and a FMIC and the works. Also he will obviously have a Boost Controller and can run a safe 22 PSI. The car will be putting down low 12's or high 11's.

Otherwise if he is stock. You can exspect to beat him by .3-.5 seconds.

RHD eclipse??? Are you sure about that Peter? As far as I know - there is no such thing as RHD eclipse. Even in japan all of them are LHD.
But anyways this friday is going to be fun. I'll make photos and video for everyone to see. This is the first meet between the Moscow DSM and Moscow Celica club.
We're going to have 5,6,7 gen celicas and 1,2,3 gen eclipses.
We're planning for a meet with Ford Probe club in the near future too, sol we'll get some statistics, photo and video soon.

As far i know, There is no JDM Eclipse/Talon/Laser. They were known as DSM cars. Diamond Star Motors. Which consist of 3 car companies that sold identical cars. Mitsu, Plymouth, and Eagle.
I believe all cars originated from the Eclipse, which was made in japan. the other 2 companies just made some minor exterior mods.

It came out in 4 models.
RS <- POS
GS<- good potencial
GST <- turboed
GSX <- AWD Turbo

prompt is right about the mods thing. When thses cars gets proper modification, these things can kick ass. my friends gsx had about 300hp on simple upgrades. didnt really tell me what, but he can take that car into neck- breaking speeds.

Usually all it takes is an upgraded turbo and boost controller to break 300hp. If you have a RHD Talon around there you better steal that SOB because there's less of them than honest politicians. Like I said above Eagle is an American company, you don't think they sold a Dodge Stealth in Japan do you, they had a lower cost 3000GT why import our version. Good luck on the run and stay away from those draw bridges unless you'll have a Skyline or S2000, lol j/k.

You will defenetly beat him... if he is stock... you got more power and a way better drivetrain... the tranny on those things are weak as ****... you can launch harder and you got way more power than him stock.... i dont see that car winning unless he has done weight reduction or has allot of engine mods or is just a way better driver than you...

XXX is right about the drivetrain, they are kind of weak compared to other turbo cars and DSM's were heavy also, but for 300 hp it only takes a few mods and that is why they became so popular, well and the fact that they're the most available turbo car on the market. I have seen a 1,000hp Talon AWD before though, but the owner got rebuilt and fortified the s*** out of the drivetrain.

ok i don't know if you guys know this but the tranys on the eclipse are not weak they are actually very strong they use the same trany as the stealth or 3000gt i know the front wheel drive models do but not sure about the all wheel drive models.

It's actually the transfer case that's weak in the GSX, and that just brings the whole thing down. In higher horsepower applications FWD is more recommended, ask most DSM guys they'll tell you.

first off...... i didn't drive in any races
sorry i just didn't feel comfortable about it...... the '4' was not running well and brakes where soft

but the facts of the night are that a stock GT-4 (5th and 6th gen)will total kill eclipes by four to five car lenths

a stock GT (five speed LHD) will beat an eclipse by a car length....

a stock SSIII (auto) will struggle to beat an eclipse.......

sorry at the moment i don't have much info on what the eclipes where running, i'll try and add some details monday.

there are no time slips as the racing was just held on a close section of road near the city airport and the only real results was who had first and second place........
