I couldn't find this anywhere, but when you guys did the swap did you use the st185 or 205 radiator or will the stock one be sufficient. I have the ST btw and it gets around 85 to 100 degrees here in the summer time almost everyday.

the stock radiator is the only one you can use and it works just fine. if you want, you can get a trd lower temp thermostat for the 3s to keep things cooler.

The ST is a bit different from the GT radiators, but at the worst, just get some different hoses...

I wouldn't skimp on cooling, a good radiator is the most important part of the cooling system, yeah the water pump is important but consider this if you run a larger radiator than stock with a stock water pump then the water will still flow at the same speed which means it will sit in the radiator longer getting even cooler, a stock GT radiator may work for the 3SGTE but it will cut down the overall lifespan, increasing the cooling fan size will help also. IMO if you do a swap from a GT-Four clip I would use the GT-Four radiator also just to be safe. I had a GMC Sierra so I know all about cooling problems.

So I will be ok with the stock radiator? By new hoses you mean longer ones because the inlets and outlets are in different places correct?

give it a try if ur engine heats up too much then swap it out with a gt radiator im sure it would do the job just as well as the 3sgte radiator considering its for a 2.2liter engine which is actually larger than the 3s

there are no issues with having a 3sgte and a stock radiator. the 3sgte radiator isint any bigger/better. its just that you cant use it because its not the same size and will not fit into the mounting holes and the in/out hoses are slightly off. the stock radiator works just fine

The stock radiator is not dual core. It would not cool my car sufficiently after the swap so I got an aftermarket one that works well. If you search, I posted the name brand sometime last fall.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Jamasco had overheating issues with the car with the stock radiator before I got it back. They installed the aftermarket one before I got there. They guessed the overheating was caused by my HUGE intercooler taking all the cool air. I dunno...

I didn't say it wouln't work but the biggest problem people overlook is the cooling system. Why wouldn't the radiator from a 6th Gen GT-Four not work, did they make two different chassis's for the same look.

darksecret, it probably would work, but most people buy an st185 clip because they are not as hard to get as the 6th gen clips. the st185 radiator dosnt fit for us, i tired.

and i guess it helps to have a gt4 front bumper, because it has a bottom and top vent. so if you have a fmic it will still let cool air come in at the top for your radiator

Well I trust what kwanza has to say almost over anyone on this board. So I will try the stock one like he said.

J, how old was your stock radiator? Are you sure it wasn't going bad before hand coupled with the intercooler blocking the air?

And I have an ST185 clip.

Stock 98. No I am not sure but that doesn't sound likely. Many people do not have problems with the stock radiator so you might just want to try that first. Its free! If it doesn't work for you, you can always go double core like me.

well whatever the deal is with the cooling dont worry too much on it radiators arent too hard to find and fit so dont freak out if the stock overheats
