Ok guys I'm looking for some suggestions and such. I've decided that I'm going to further my basic sewing abilities and practice so I can re-upholster my car. I'm thinking I'm going to do a temporary black vynal theme to replace all the upholstery on the seats and in the door-pad things, along with the visors and headliner. This will set me so I can save up for leather when the car becomes a real project.
I do have a few questions though, and if anyone has suggestions please post them, I'm pretty much a noob at this stuff. For the headliner I thought it would be cool to have like fiber-optics in it...like make the black headliner with the ends of the fiber in it to look like stars ya know? Anyone have ideas on how to make it work and look good? I mean i have some ideas but I just don't know if they're feasible. ~Brian -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

I've got a 92 cadillac that I'll sell you if you want to pimp your headliner. J/K that's a fairly unique idea. I sorta like it. You can buy fiber optic kits at hobby stores and just start playin with it. It's really easy stuff to work with and is pretty flexible too so it shouldn't be to hard to make work. I'd just start pokin' really small holes in your head liner then stick the fiber optic through and hot glue it on the back side of the head liner. If it doesn't turn out good it's extremely easy to recover a headliner. -------------------- ![]() Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

When redoing your headliner ect. be sure to use automotive grade adhesive, I prefer spray on so it goes on evenly and not to thick. If you have a moonroof you'll need to remove that after the headliner to get the fabric that slides. Also be careful when removing headliner, you must first remove A-pillar and side sections in rear as well as the the rear seats. Good luck and pm me with any more Q's.

BUMP- I just had my headliner re-done and i didnt have to take my rear seats out??? And i also did not have to take out any plastic panels. All i had to do was take my seat belts off and just unclip the panels enough to slide the headliner out, i also have a hatch tho, so i can slide it out the back. Anyways, i brought this post back to ask a couple questions about the headliner. Does anyone know if Toyota ever made the headliner in black? I ask because i had mine done in black and i want to buy like the strips along the edge of the sunroof opening edge, and i want it in black. If not anyone have any ideas for me? |

I have a hatch as well but I dont like to MAKE things fit so I just took it all apart it only took an extra half hour at the most. As far as colors they only come in grey and tan as far as I've ever seen as of now my ring around moonroof is still grey.

i was thinking about doing my own headliner in black, i don't think toyota made one in black. i was going to just do some black vynal or something to see how it looks, then maybe do something better like suede further down the road if i like it -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
