Everyday I tell myself I want to start working out. But I never do! I always come home from work & get online or watch TV...& spend the rest of my evening doing nothing! Ya...no good! So here is what I was thinking...if your like me & need motivation to work out, maybe we can motivate each other. Whether you like to run, or walk etc. Lets keep track of it & see who can get the most mileage biggrin.gif Since you all like to compete I figured this would be a good place to do it. Here is a chart of conversions so you can keep track of your miles:

walk 1 mile = 1 mile (duh)
run 1 mile = 1 mile (duh)
bike 1 mile = 1/4 mile
swim 1 mile = 4 miles
Rollerblade 1 mile = 1/2 mile

So who wants in on this? Come on I need motivation! It would start today & everyone starts with ZERO miles. We can post our progress as we go & see who can get the most "miles" biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Its just an idea I had, if no one wants to do it then uhhh never mind I'll do it alone you lazy bastards wink.gif

You look pretty good in your pics so I wouldn't waste time on aerobics, if you want to get definition, I concentrate on weight lifting to define your abs, arms and legs.

this will build muscle that help you burn fat even when you sit on you bum for the rest of the day, plus your session can be as small as 20 mins twice a week vs aerobics ever day for 30 mins +

Don't worry you wont get huge, thats a myth. You would have to be really hardcore to get bulky (been weightlifting for 10 years and im still skinny)

I will concur on that, I did those walk meter things and did the math I walk 1 mile for every hour i work. I work 50 hours a week. I do 200 crunches every morn or night and I run 2 miles or bike 4 miles every day off. And lift wights every other day. But then again I also use to be very fat so thats was my motivation. Now im fit and happy with my body.

Oh an for today I slacked, onyl lifted for 30 min and biked 4 miles.

and now am doing 3 times a week of 20 mins hardcore intense cardio.

its hardcore bootcamp type work outs but the difference in just the way i feel is incredible :-) In a few weeks or so I should notice a difference in myself :-)

I go to the gym 3 times a week, and keep my calorie intake around 800-1000 daily. For those who think that's unhealthy, there are a lot of healthy foods that have very low calories.. and celery has negative calories.

If I swam everyday for 1.5 hours at an easy pace I would rack up an equivelence to about 70 miles a week. Or 2.25-2.5 swimming miles per day. So i find this 1:4 ratio kinda overdone maybe 1:2 or 1:2.25 I don't know.

I told you im lazy....

Its almost been 2 weeks since I started this thread & I havent gone running once! Mainly because I need someone to go running with. Being a woman living in this crazy world of ours today I dont feel safe running alone...& I dont care what time of day it is.

Anyway yesterday I did some crunches & stuff like that which after about 10 - 15 min of my little ghetto work out I was out of breath & sweating...thats pathetic! But I am all sore today so thats good biggrin.gif better than sitting on the computer doing nothing wink.gif So I really, really want to start running...I wish one of you lived closer to me...so we could go running together! UNLESS Ace or Andy want to go running w/ me lol they dont live very far...

here is a "weight-for-height" chart....Im 5'7" & weigh 132lbs (last I checked) Woohoo Im a healthy weight! wink.gif But I want my engery back!!

How is everyone else doing w/ their excersise?? can you fit behind ur steering wheels? wink.gif

I just saw this:

Me getting a line number for TSgt has prompted my arse to get back in the gym and get back in shape. As such....

4-5 days a week I've been on the Elliptical machine for 30 minutes straight at a 6 MPH clip. It's not much, but I just had back surgery on two lumbar discs in late Feb. I'm not allowed to run anymore so I do what I can.

I just wish I hadn't let myself go for so long. frown.gif

my body is magic. i just sit around all week or month and then go and run 2 miles in 15min. im barely in the white/lightblue part of amy's chart. i have a gym membership but i hardly use it. amy all you look like you need is some aerobics and cardio to keep yourself fit.

dude navy pt is pretty light. we used to pass them and the airforce all the time. i envied them sometimes.

Yes, Navy PT is VERY light. Luckily, though, I'm not one of those people who has to rely on organized PT (that's Physical Training for all the non-military peeps out there) to stay in shape. For whatever reason I tend to be perpetually in-shape no matter what I do... biggrin.gif
My advice to anyone wanting to get in better shape is this:
1) Limit sugar intake. Diet sodas (Sprite Zero, Coca-Cola Zero, etc.), unsweetened tea, and sugar substitutes are your friends.
2) Limit fat intake. Deep-fried foods (to include french fries) are NOT your friends. Jared may be annoying, but Subway IS the Mecca of delicious, healthy fast-food.
3) If you're going to use a supplement (i.e. Trimspa, Hydroxy Cut), then use it in moderation. Those things can be dangerous if abused. They are a SUPPLEMENT to your regular diet, not a replacement.
4) Warming-up and stretching are paramount, and will be very beneficial down the road. If you neglect this part of your work-out, you will suffer in the long run (just ask my lower back).
5) As someone stated earlier, find an activity that you enjoy. Basketball is aerobically rewarding, as is any contact sport. Mat wrestling, to this day, remains the best way to enhance endurance and stamina, in my book. Boxing is a great way to stay in shape AND to release stress.
6) Hydrate. Drink lots of water, even when you're not thirsty. If you wait until you get thirsty to drink water, then you're too late because you're already dehydrated. Those Aquafina commercials are correct when they say that drinking water is the best thing you can do for your body.
7) Weight lifitng can be beneficial or detrimental, depending on your goals. If you want to lose weight or tone up, then less weight and more reps is the road for you. If you're trying to build muscle and mass, then MORE weight and less reps is better. Weight lifting is good, but it can also have an adverse effect on your joints and bones if done improperly, or too often.

That's my advice. I'm sorry if it was long-winded or if it was stuff that ya'll already knew.

1) Limit sugar intake. Diet sodas (Sprite Zero, Coca-Cola Zero, etc.), unsweetened tea, and sugar substitutes are your friends.

woohooo I bought a Coca-Cola Zero today! I thought *oh no i shouldnt be buying this!* & I probably shouldnt have, but I wanted to try it tongue.gif I havent tried it yet....so its not too late...I can still go drink some water instead biggrin.gif

No, what I meant was that those "Zero" sodas are GOOD for your diet!! 0 calories, 0 caffeine, & 0 carbs (sugar is a form of carbohydrate). These are MUCH better than the regular sodas which can have anywhere from 28-40 grams of sugar per serving. Consuming 40 grams of sugar in one sitting is bad business...

If you're refering to the claims of the link between aspartame and cancer, then I ask: What HASN'T been linked to cancer? I think that there are much more dangerous things that you can do to your body than aspartame...

Water does indeed do wonders if you try to lose weight, my dad lost 35 lbs by drinking water, instead of coffee and softdrinks.

Indeed, I know from experience that cancer just happens. The only advice I would have is not to smoke 'cause that's just bad in so many ways...

Let my dazzle you with my weight, a magic 97 lbs at 5'7".
My workout? Eating what I can, when I can and sitting on my bum... I'm a very bad example, I know, and that does indeed say 97 lbs, no typo.

Hey dont forget to add good eating habits as part of your program. Otherwise if you eat crappy foods or eat too late at night, it will make your workouts useless.

Ive been told to eat more meals in small portions a day. I did and it worked pretty well for me. I ate breakfast, midmorning snack (something a protien bar) , lunch, mid afternoon snack and an early dinner.

I also stopped eating fast foods. SOOOO Hard though.... tongue.gif

Ps: Amy you are motivating all of 6gc to get fit! woo 6gc fit club 07.

I haven't been to the gym all week, oopsie. I'll get back on track today or tomorrow. My problem is when i go it's the busiest time. SO many people half my time spent is waiting for machines I get so angry.

Omg Im 5'7" too, & the lightest I have ever been (probably when I was 14) WAS 115. dang you are THIN! lol I would be jealous...but I dont wanna be a stick like that. hehe I want to keep my curves & get really toned

I have been drinking tons of water per day, tons. & occasionally a small glass of fat free milk. I cant even remember the last time I touched softdrinks or anything like that. Nor do I want to *bleh* Because anything that is going to cancel out one of my work outs, I see no point to it!

Thats all I do is eat healthy stuff smile.gif I even have a "work out log" I write down every day how much I weigh (morning & night since it will vary) how long I run & how many miles I do. I also keep track of how many calories/fat calories I have supposedly burned according to the treadmill (I wear at least 2 layers so i better be burning a ton lol), & last but not least I write down what I eat & drink daily. Writing it down helps me keep on track plus I like to see my progress smile.gif If I weigh more one day than another day Ill say "WHOA how much did I eat that day!?" & then I can go look hehe

Hi Tina! Wellllll I dunno if Im motivating anybody but if I am then wooohoooo. Lets get together this summer & show off our beach bodies tongue.gif Im sorry that ur gym is always so busy frown.gif Come work out w/ me. All I have is a treadmill, row machine, & bench press though. If you wanna join my "gym" ill try & get more stuff for you lol

Im kinda mad today, I was SO excited for the weekend since I can work out more w/ out being distracted by work! But last night after running my left leg was killing me. I have been limping around on it all day today too frown.gif Its not a good work out pain though... its a bad pain! So I guess Ill do some weight lifting today hmmm? And maybe the row machine... as long as my leg wont mind kindasad.gif

thank god for genetics, 5'9 130 might look small to most people but im betting body fat is at 3 % or less. Started working out again doing protein shakes and overall better eating trying to bulk up to no avail yet. I'm a hell of a lot stronger though now for working out about 4 days a week for 2 months solid now, weight lifting/running can make anyone into a machine. My goals are to start training for golf season smile.gif and also try to get back into sprinting and see if i can hit my 4.65sec 40 time like i did highschool. good luck to all for fitness goals.

well there is a charity cycle event in july and its 205miles off road across 3 days, so its 80 miles each the first 2 days and 45 the third day.

Not sure if I will be fit enough by then but it would be nice to try. thats why i've started practicing.

bit poor this week, only did 6.5 miles on friday and same 6.4 on saturday.

And I can't see how biking is less than walking, I put more effort into biking than I do walking, unless you mean power-walking then it might be more. but normal casual strolling doesn't take hardly anymore effort than sitting watching tv i don't think! lol.

~ Update since March 1st ~

Last Friday (March 2nd) I over did it w/ the running & hurt my left leg. I had to limp around on it for 3 days! Its all better now. But instead of doing 6 miles a day on the treadmill Im back to doing 2. (dont wanna over do it again) My leg seems fine so far. I think the problem was that I wasn't stretching out good enough before & after.

Anyway I've lost 3 more pounds so that makes it a total of 13 so far, yay! It should be more like 16 buuuut I couldnt frikin run frown.gif I have been doing other exercises though so that has helped. Plus Im still eating healthy so that helps a lot!

Okay... im done, just wanted to share biggrin.gif

I actually finally found a diet that made me drop the pounds!!

I lost about 30lbs in just over 2 weeks....

I started it all off with a bad case of appendicitis. Being the dedicated dieter I am, I let this sit around for a few days until the appendix ruptured.
Now, Im no pussy, so I waited around to be sure all of the poison in my system was filling me nicely before I went to the ER.
Once in the ER I made sure to confuse the doc by saying that I had bad stomach pains... I mean. I didnt want them to find the real problem too quick and ruin my diet.
After about 12 hours of a ruptured appendix and a nice heavy case of peritonitis I felt it was time to let them cut me open.

The infection and poison made sure that I would not be eating any food for 7 days and then only liquid for another 7.

2 weeks later.. I went from about 245lbs. to 212 lbs.

I know this is probably considered an "Extreme" diet.... but you cant argue with results!

unfortunately.... it was mostly muscle.... hehe

Hopefully by may or june I will be healed up enough to go back to the gym and get some of that muscle back....

Good Job Amy!

Ive just been keeping up with my trainer. It ws nice to hear him say that one of his female clients is jealous of me cuz she thought she was his strongest client. Booya I got her beat tho! :-) I gotta get some more cardio in but the stress with my ex has kept me from getting to the gym cuz im trying to make things right with him. My eating habits are gradually getting better. i dont really want to just stop eating crap food all together cuz then ill just end up binging. So i limit it and am weaning myself off of it like a drug addict lol. so i only eat mcdonalds twice a day now - JK!! lol.

Amy - make sure you get some strength training in there :-)

PS - thanks for the email on snack ideas

When I worked at this plastics manufacturing death warehouse I was sweating all day. After a year there I was down to 186 with my steel toe boots and all my gear. I was happy about that. After I got my job in the IT dept of the school district my weight went right back up to 210. All this sitting, not physically demanding in any form, so I joined a gym with the lady. Its been 2 weeks since we joined and I have dropped down to 197 in full attire, which for my frame is good. I am 5'9" and there isn't much more for me to lose. I have come to terms that my waist will never see size 30 pants, just because my bone structure will never allow it, but I'm happy. It feels good to work out at the end of the day. smile.gif

this week i've done; 9 miles of walking.

playing golf for school, and i went out 4 times this week so i would say 9 is a safe number.

Amy you still keeping up on things?

This week ive really got a hold on the working out thing. Monday did 45 mins at the gym. Tuesday walked to and from work which is about 4 miles. This morning woke up at 4:45am and drove 15 mins up north to meet a friend at her gym and do 45 mins of cardio then came home and walked 2 miles to work.

So i dont know if its really working out but its definitely activity! Feeling pretty good. Hopefully I can keep it up for the rest of the week and thru the weekend cuz I think the weekend break would not be good for me.
