What information is needed by the ECU to decide when to shift?

So far I assume that these are definitely needed:

Throttle Position Signal
Tach signal
Speed Sensor
coolant temperature (for limiting rpm while engine is cold)

Can anyone think of anything else that would be needed by the ECU to operate the transmission.

let me guess paddle shifts!?

it also shifts the tranny by comparing the throttle position and rpm to calculate engine load. If the engine load is higher the tranny will shift later.

Well I'll be mating a 3SGTE to an auto transmission and I was hoping to let the stock 5SFE ECU control the transmission. The paddle shift idea would be cool if it didn't take so long for the transmission to change gears when the next gear was selected.

I don't know why an MR2 auto trans would be any stronger than a 6gc auto trans. They were both mated to the 5SFE.

Caldina = 4WD
Celica GT = FWD

I already have an auto trans.

As far as your research is concerned, what led you to that conclusion? If it's the lack of an auto ECU for the 3SGTE I've already overcome that issue. I'll be running a standalone for the 3S and the stock ECU for the trans.

why not AWD conversion with the AWD autox? that would be something NEVER EVER EVER done before? then upgrade the valve body, and those were tiptronic so your paddle shifter idea comes into play. the ULTIMATE auto swap. atleast an idea to play with i understand you want to get this auto in and working. i can relate kindasad.gif

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
