Anyone have good links to pertinent California Vehicle Law?

I've been going through the online CVC document and found fun stuff like:

You can have any color turn signal lens as long as they flash yellow or white in front and red or white in back and side markers flash yellow.

You have to affix as many plates as were originally issued to your vehicle by the DMV.

Photographers get special license plates.

If you're transporting explosives you can't drive more than 55.

But I I can't find anything on emissions with engine swaps (aside from giving notice of install) or how to find out how many plates were originally issued to your vehicle (I bought mine used and it came with one).

did u check the dmv sites for the emissions? also look for referee locations. they could give you information about swaps and their legality here.

2 plates are originally issued to 6gcs in the state of california. u will be cited for not having both properly affixed to the bumpers.

California DMV has a site dedicated to rice rockets... they have rules saying music can't be heard _____ feet away, muffler noise can't be heard ______ feet away, that windsheld spraying thing can't have light.. bla bla bla... it's pretty interesting.

But I forgot the website address...

And the front turn signals can't flash white. I talked with CHP, and they said the lenses can be clear, but the flash has to be yellow.

I was wondering that myself. I really don't know. Maybe the chipper was telling me wrong? I don't know. Its what he said though, so who knows.

Part a says the fronts can be white. I'm wondering if I should print this and carry it with me.

Leads me to another important question, anyone know the law on traffic stops. Like officers have to state the reason they pulled you over etc.?

QUOTE

Turn Signal Lamps

24953.  (a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light visible to the rear.

(b) Side-mounted turn signal lamps projecting a flashing amber light to either side may be used to supplement the front and rear turn signals. Side-mounted turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the center of the vehicle may project a flashing red light no part of which shall be visible from the front.

© In addition to any required turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in its rearmost position.

(d) In addition to any required or authorized turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps that are mounted on, or are an integral portion of, the outside rearview mirrors, so long as the lamps flash simultaneously with the rear turn signal lamps, the light emitted from the lamps is projected only to the rear of the vehicle and is not visible to the driver under normal operating conditions, except for a visual indicator designed to allow monitoring of lamp operation, and the lamps do not project a glaring light.

As far as I know a cop has to specify the reason(s) why he pulled you over. This is because of, primarily, the exlusion act, law, whatever.
Example: An old teacher of mine was caught driving drunk. The police officer suspected him of drunk driving, and pulled him over for swerving in the lane and driving too slow. He got out of the ticket because a). Swerving is only considered a sign of a drunk driver if the driver leaves the lane, and b). he was in the far right lane, so driving too slow according to the speed limit is permissible as long as there is given reason (he was behind a truck).
Thus, since the officer pulled him over with the intention of testing him for being drunk, but did not follow proper guidelines (niether a or b are technically reasons allowed under california law to pull over a citizen under suspect for drunk driving), all information pertaining to said case are irrelevant and thrown out of court. Thus, even though he was tested and over the legal limit, because he wasnt pulled over legally those tests are erased.

This is nifty information to know, because if you have a good lawyer, or decent knowledge of the law, you can get out of a lot of tickets that cops asign you after they pull you over. For instance, lights in the window squirters. Unless a cop saw the lights on, he cant give you a ticket after he pulls you over if he simply sees them in the spot.

Also, as far as I know, cops are not allowed to forcibly search your car without a warrant, including trunk or underhood, irregardless of what they say.
