#1, 7afe rods are stupidly small... we had the block on a stand, and my buddy was pushing the piston out from the crank side (engine upside down) and when the piston/rod fell in my hands, the first thing I said was "it's a girl!"

Here are pictures of the 7afe rod and piston Vs a 2zzge rod and piston... which I still might try and use.

Also, I think this 7a belonged to someone that wanted power... it had Iridium plugs (which i am going to use in my car. wink.gif ) and it had light green injectors. These could be overseas stock though.

Also, both cams are different part numbers. I have not had the chance to do any measurements though.

Also, the JDM 7a has some sort of TVIS like set up.

and the 8 intake ports...

and here is what is going on the short block. wink.gif

I am going to take the block and crank to a local machine shop within the month... I am also going to bring a 7a piston/rod and a 2zz piston/rod. I might have them shave 2mm off of the crank and use the 2zz units. The only thing is... the 2zz piston in 3mm higher from the pin than the bleeding 7a... so I might have to buy 4ag pistons. frown.gif

hey nik, was your 'top aluminum' portion of the oil pan machined to fit the last rod? Mine has a cut out in it so the last rod has room to travel. If so, did you have to remove more material to fit the pauter rods?

Yea, I am talking about the actual pan that bolts onto the block. I was surprised at how bleeding heavy the 7a crank is... no need to worry about it under boost or high rpm...

The way it's looking I am going to try and de-stroke the 7a crank and use the 2zz rods. when you hold one of them next to a 7a... I just couldn't believe it.

Once again, I'll know more after I get everything to the machine shop.

I'm curious, did you get a 5 angle valve job? what did it run you?

EDIT, nik, also tell me about what retainers and such you are using, and where you got them. (give me a run down on your valve train.)

no it didnt need any modding of the pan and yeah is really heavy after i pulled the crank the block felt like nothing.

hope everything works out for you on the 2zz rods

3 or 5 confused.gif not sure i'll ask the shop
as for price i payed 800 for all the head work P&P stage 2 with port match and valve job so it probably was a 5 angle

TRD retainers ,TRD springs (pretty much all the valvetrain is TRD),crower 272 in & ex cams, etc did you need more detail?

naa that's got it. If the 2zz rods work out it's gonna be tempting to try and boost it also. I've seen the 2zzge engines with their crazy compression run up to 270ish whp. so...

If I only had the time this would be done much quicker.

valve train stuff is spendy like $400+ and since TRD is no more you'll probably see those prices go up alittle more it took me 3 weeks to track down buy and reseive my stuff but i was very happy
