No theres no SC for the 3s, the 5s Rippmodds might fit but its not something you do to a turbo motor.

he's got me thinking in a sense
since superchargers do the same job as a turbo by packing the air together in a new pressure environment, shouldn't compression be lower for S/C? i was reading about some place planning to S/C a 11:1 comp car... and i was wondering since if it may run cooler(no hot-side to cold-side transfer) if it can run higher compression. I gotta admit i do love the WHIR of a S/C ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

it would be kind of dumb to ditch the factory turbo setup for a supercharger. at best you would end up with the same performance as the stock ct26 can give you.
i could see it as a better option for a 5sfe. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

btw, the car i was talking about was the Mustang GT-R that they are supposed to release
it was an article in Autoweek where the writer said it was at like 11:1 pushing out X horsepower then i remember "and that's before supercharging..." as for your question...i do not know what that 671gm is, and i don't know if the 3s-gte will "handle" it. if you mean can it take a supercharger...i don't see why not. It's got low compression, and has been proven to put out impressive numbers. This post has been edited by Consynx: Aug 21, 2005 - 11:42 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I can't remember how long ago it was, but once I saw an older MR2 that had a supercharger and turbo on it. The supercharger provided boost at lower rpms while the turbo provided it for higher rpms. The engine bay looked like hell though, there was crap everywhere. I don't know how the guy worked on anything.

The boost from the SC and turbo didn't stack -- that's not how doublecharging works. The idea with double-charger is that the SC prevents lag and gives great acceleration, while the turbo takes over at high RPMs to give great speed that the SC cannot match.
The concept has become much less popular in recent years simply because modern turbos are so much more efficient than the old style ones, and the turbo lag is no longer great enough to justify the additional weight, cost and complexity of adding a supercharger. |

sounds like a hybrid with electric motors to provide torque and acceleration, then gas motor for cruizing...
i saw something on the mr2 didn't he blow like 3 engines before getting it right? |

So I found the magazine where I saw it, it was Feb 2002 issue of Sport Compact Car (Vol. 14 No. 2)
It was an '85 MR2 twincharger. It had a 4ag-gze, dropped to 8.9:1 compression, with a T3/T4 with nitrous added. I'm not sure what it ran (I can't find the mag with those stats), but I'm sure it wasn't really worth it. I'll let you know if I find the issure that had the performance stats. |

i read in sport compact about an integra gsr doing a "super-turbo", both a super charger and a turbo. his car was super fast too! so it is possible to do one, im not sure for our cars tho. but he had the low end plus the high power so his dyno was almost perfect. if you look at a car that just did a turbo, its dyno power graph chart is low until it hits the boost and it just spikes up, but with both it gets the low end too so the graph chart has a steady increase. almost perfect. his engine set-up was verrry crazy.. hes like a mad scientist that built a frankenengine...
