thought alot today, cuz im having kinda strange feeling when i come here on 6gc....

Some of people here are from the way way back, oldschoolers, some are newly registered, some are middle age members here. Still all of us are 6GC owners.

Its kinda strange, but for me actually it was WAY WAY more fun to open 6gc.net page 3 years ago (oh god, its already 3+ years im a everyday member here), when here was only a few of us. It was way more fun to see all the new parts / project / how to's and etc.. Dunno what happend, but its getting kinda strange to keep mouth shut then you see all the same Q's, same stuff floating around, and same stupid replay's saying nothing but the same misinformation sometimes... Dunno what happend but in the back days there was way more of people Like Coomer / Manny / Art / Kwanza (sorry dunno the name wink.gif ) / 97Stcelica / Zipstrip and other fews i cant remeber nicks / names clearly...... It was good to write a question and get the answer and know what the answer you got is 90% atleast corect... And now.... sometime i dont even bother to question somthing, i rather ask on AIM, cuz most of the replays you get turn into a flame war, or into a stupid mind loud thinking.... Kinda strange, then most of guys here post loud contemplation instead of posting good info.... I dunno, maybe this is the people nature? Some just say - sorry, i aint know what you are asking, some start with huh/ Maybe this/ maybe that stuff/ some are pointing the statment even if it is 100% incorect...

Its kinda strange then people dont say the truth straight, i know its hard to admit if the truth is shooted straight in your eyes, but it is better then somthing saying that you aint felling or seeing... Even if someone says this straight in the eyes - he becomes a BAD BAD person for saying this.... As for example - SlowCelica (sorry that i took you as example biggrin.gif), but most of the time he shoots out what he thinks / sees , he aint covering like most of people here do. he is dab (offcorse he done other stupid things, but we all do them in life wink.gif )....

I dunno, i did lots of things in real life on my Celica, and on some of them, i aint posted any How-to's or aint told anyone how to make them, just cuz i spent countles hours developing them, tryed lots of different aproches and its kinda hard sometimes to let this information go... And im becoming more and more bad for not letting everybody to know the stuff i know? Some people starting to act strange then i tell them - sorry i CANT tell you this....

Dunno what happend to the comunity, in my point of view, there are lots of faknes around here... but this is just my point of view.... Had to let this all go, so sorry for might be stupid thought and for mistakes, but this comunity gave me a lot of things i do have now and lots of knowledge, and i do respect lots of guys here.

Thats cuz back in the day we were still learning. I still visit on a daily basis, but I dont check out 1/2 the stuff I used to because its the same things as before. I used to try to answer everyones questions hence why I have the second biggest post count but after awhile I just got tired of it, plus alot of what im doing now has nothing to do with an actual 6gc, such as building the 3s. I'm not complaining bout this place itis just the nature of the beast. At some point your going to, and I hate to say it, but rise above and go on your own. When I got my Curren tails way back when people were real ticked off when I wouldnt go find part #s. Well now thanks to the good ol' group buy that goes down on a monthly basis my once unique Currens are now common place.

Its not that the site has gone down hill, its that the people who once the learners are now the teachers and things change. The sites not that old, its going to stay this way and maybe we'll see a pioneer with a V6 swap or something. Its just the way life goes. Hell Ive worked on more Hondas & Subarus than my car in the last 3 months.

I'm not sure where I really belong.. I joined in '03...... So I've been around about 2 yrs I believe.. But I haven't been really active until bout 9-11 months ago... I agree there are quite a few fakes here and people shoot their mouths off. If I'm one PM me to tell me what I'm doing. But I agree with Erik... The students have become the teachers..... to teach us what they've learned.

i think the problem is that there is nothing new to excite us old memebers. i remember seeing an invader kit back in the day and thinking...damn! or learning you can swap your motor for a 3s...wow ... all those things were new and exciting at the time. now they are old and boring.

romas, i totally hear you.
i agree, and i also think that we could all "step up our game" so to speak.
this site is only as good as we make it, the information that is here is from what we make it.
i also agree with what your saying about the flaming, and needless posts that have been going on for WAY too long...that kinda stuff really needs to stop, and i think some of that is up to us(the mods) to control.
but, i also think there are quite a few members that 90% of the time just start typing without thinking about what theyre saying, just trying to "stir up the sh*t" so-to-speak. and those are the kind of people that ruin the site for the rest of us, cause when you DO post somthing usefull, or somthing unique, it either sinks to the bottom and goes over everyones head, or turns into a big flame war.
its like people cannot talk about things rationally, without flaming, or spouting out usless "i think" and "i heard" comments about how this sucks, or how the person above them talks trash, blah blah blah.
when it comes down to it, its all generic highschool-type bickering that i think we'd ALL agree is just childish.
one thing i think alot of the more active members of this site fail to realize is how much of an impact they can actually have on this site.
we all complain about how its all the same things, posted over and over, and how noone uses the search button, but i dont see many people doing anything about it. its up to US to make this site what it is.
i know that there are LOTS of things on this site that everyone talks about everyday, all the time, and noone posts solid info for it.
swaps, turbos, suspension, bodywork...we should have ALL this stuff covered, in detail, by now, with the people we have here.
there are PLEANTY of people here that know enough about these things to have good, solid disscusion at ANYTIME in any forum about basicly anything in the car, alot of us just choose not to, for whatever the reason may be.
its like noone will take the time to explain anything to anyone, just point the finger and say, here, go find it.
that would be fine, if we had a solid base to work with.
but we need to CREATE that base.
there are LOTS of people on the site that dont really know much about cars, hell i was one of them at one time, and i think its up to us to try and educate and help out the people that dont know as much about the car to learn.
if we all help each other to learn more about the car, and how it works, the whole community grows, and i think that should be our main goal.
its up to us to make this site, what we post becomes what the site is, good and bad.
i think alot of people here forget that.
i think its up to us, as a community to bring up the quality of the posts, ect, if we want it, its up to US to make it happen.
i could go on and on about it for DAYS, romas,
needless to say, i feel ya.
lol
hopfully we can all work together to make this site better than it ever has been.

i think another part of the problem is that there are a lot of new members on this site that arent really into doing major mods on their cars. most of the people on here are young, have a litmited income, and are perfectly happy with an intake and a new muffler. so thats why we dont see write ups on the expensive suspension someone put on or the ripp charger kit they just installed.

now onto what i think we can do better....

i think this site needs an UNLOCKEd archive forum. there have been a lot of great posts made in the past that just got lost. i remember scaning in a bunch of pages from some of the wiring books i have, to help give more wiring info for people... thast now lost in the past.

player just made a cool post with 7afe info... it got a 3 replies and is going down into history as we speak.

then there was that nice and usefull swap/tranny/axel thread.... lost in the past
etc.. etc.. .etc...

I agree that it was more fun back in the day...though I still enjoy a lot of topics here today. I'm still working on the Celica all the time finding new stuff to do(custom fabrication and whatnot), creating custom wiring circuits, things like that. I would try to do more write-ups and stuff, but I usually screw stuff up the first time(like my brakes...except I screwed up like 3-4 times before I put it back to stock.)

But while reading this I had a good idea...maybe we should each post a good, solid, well-researched reply or new thread every day(or often, or whenever...I dunno)

I've discovered some new stuff lately(like Nissan 200SX fog lights look a lot like '96+ OEM lights) but haven't really posted it, mostly because I haven't finished up some stuff yet, but I could post some good stuff and maybe some people could help out...I dunno...just kinda thinking out loud right now as well.

Most information now resides in the forums, the actual site hasnt really been updated for a long time it looks like. I watched the site for a while before I joined using information on the website but ran out pretty quick for the applications I was using it for.

If more information was added to the main page, and kept being added / updated as more stuff was posted, it would probably eliminate most of the reiteration and reposts. I imagine simply adding some of the most reposted things in the forums onto the main site would do wonders for one time posters asking about things like turboing the 7afe or finding "performance headers".

The car is also getting older, and cheaper. It probably looks really appealing to kids in high school and their parents nowadays as a first timer car, and I imagine that would explain the recent forum traffic you refer to.

^ I totally agree. I personally thought this site was a little lame when I first came here just because the home page really doesn't have ALL that much info. It seems like a lot of people are just using the forum as a social place to talk about anything. Which isn't necessarily bad, but a lot of the whole 6th gen focus seems to be lost.

good call on adding info to the actual site itself. but coomer is definitely going to need help in writing all of that up. coomers doing a lot of work on the forums and i know its going to be hard for him to start working on the actual site itself. so if we want to do this, we're all going to have to put in our 2 cents. so if the mods and coomer want to work something out, im definitely down to help.

I have actually enjoyed the site lately. The pimp my ride, playrs project and now soundsluts keep me motivated.

I'm kinda use to hearing the same ????s asked by newbie. Thats always going to be around. I rarely go into the off-topic forum now, I just got tired of it. Miss the girls(madmods angels) though:D

i agree art, and thats part of the reason for the new sticky format we're working on.
in case you hadnt noticed, which it looks like you didnt, wink.gif players post IS part of the sticky in the engine forum, and there is LOTS more info that needs to go in there.
like it says in the post, if you have somthing to add, or a post that you've made in the past that you think should be in there, let someone know, bump it up, do SOMTHING, and we can add it all in. that goes for ALL our members here.
like i said, its up to US. whos in?? smile.gif

i also just wanna add another thing in here, just cause i feel like it needs to be said.
i know there are a few of you out there, who are all pissed off with posts getting deleted, blah blah blah, but, honestly, REALLY, we're (the mods) not here to stop you from posting your opinions, or thoughts on anything, or ruin anyones day.
this site needs to change for the better, period.
we have a few simple rules, there REALLY easy to follow.
everyone needs to try and be a little more helpfull around here, and ALOT slower to over-react and flip out over stupid little things.
you wanna talk trash, start flame wars, post porn, head on over to otug, or toyotanation or whatever. we dont want it here. COOMER dont want it here.
we all need to start thinking a little more before we post, and just basicly be respectful. theres always gonna be somthing you dont like, or feel passionately about, but that is no reason to post up usless "that sucks" or "bleh" posts.
if you cant say somthing respectfully, like as if you were face to face with the person your posting about, then DONT POST IT. lol its a really simple concept.

that said, lemme put my flame suit on, and ya'll can flame away if ya'd like wink.gif

and romas, its all good man. i know just how you feel about the site, and i think there are more than a few of us here who are willing to do what it takes to turn it around.
