QUOTE(BlackCelicaGT94 @ Sep 3, 2005 - 3:39 PM) im embarrased for america - can u imagine if terrorists struck 5 cities at once with some fierce attack? we are so unprepared for such disasters!! some lil girl came to the door today collecting money so i gave her 10 bucks! In the word of Kanye West "Bush doesnt care about black people" QUOTE(BlackCelicaGT94 @ Sep 3, 2005 - 11:13 PM) Kanye West at the NBC Concert for Hurricane Katrina Relief Fuller transcript from Tracy and Eric: Kanye West at the NBC Concert for Hurricane Katrina Relief: Mike Meyers reads off prompter … switches to black singer, Kanye West: "I hate the way they portray us in the media. "If you see a black family it says they are looting if you see a white family it says they are looking for food. "And you know that it’s been 5 days because most of the people are black and even for me to complain … I would be a hypocrite because I would turn away from the TV because it’s too hard to watch. I’ve even been shopping before giving a donation and so right now I’m calling my business manager what is the biggest amount I can give. "And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there. So anybody out there who wants to help with the set up, the way that America is set up to help … The poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean, Red Cross is doing everything they can. "We already realize a lot of the people that could help are at war now fighting another way and they’ve given them permission to go down and shoot us." (Mike Meyers tries to get back on prompter, reads from script and then camera cuts back to Kanye. He pauses before Kanye West: "George Bush doesn’t care about black people." Then camera abruptly switches to another black actor QUOTE(WannabeGT4 @ Sep 6, 2005 - 1:26 PM) LOL! Kanye West is the most ignorant person alive. Hurricane Katrina and it's effect on the New Orleans area is simply the largest national disaster that the United States has ever dealt with. It is not solely decided by the president who is sent to help in these situations. Most of it is handled by FEMA. The Director of FEMA is the one that has made the mistakes if anyone has. Does West realize the scope of this disaster? The hurricane was the size of Florida for God's sake. This simple-minded person cannot even begin to comprehend the resources that will be required for the relief efforts. To say that the media portrays blacks in a negative way is dumb. If you see someone coming out of a store with a cart full of electronics when there isn't even any electricity they are going to be labeled as looters. Bags of shoes and clothes are not essential to survival either. It's not the media's fault that they are out there in the middle of the day knowingly robbing stores while cameras catch their every move. New Orleans has a very high African American population which, whether he wants to believe or not, is for the most part poverty stricken. Of course they'll be out there looting. It's like Christmas in the Fukcing ghetto. And before anyone starts in about how they censored his comments from the West coast Re-broadcast and how it's a violation of his free speech (large debate on a local radio station). You have to think about the networks liability. Free speech doesn't even apply to network television. The networks owners and sponsors have final say over what is allowed to be aired. QUOTE(LewFX @ Sep 6, 2005 - 1:51 PM) what wannabe said and then some. People who hate bush dont understand how hard it is to be a president and make the decesions he makes. the debt is high because of the war cost and now its gonna go up more to help out the people from katrina. the government has also given money to other country disaters and other misc stuff that has happned here. Just because it wasnt on the news doesnt mean its not happening. what about the sick ppl raping and beating kids during this. you wanna blame bush for them doing that too? give me a freggin break, if you wanna help out then go there and lend a hand. stop bashing bush and bash yourself for not lending a hand before any of this happened. do you donate your time to help someone else out, if we all helped each other out and stop being mean to others, we actually might be a nice nation. why do you think we have debts in our states and as a country because everyone wants the government to handle it, why wait for the government, you can help out anytime you want but do you? why are we even wasting our time even reading anything Kanye West has to say? The man runs around with angel wings and thinks he's Jesus because he got shot. Half the rappers in this country have been shot. I believe it's a requirement. In order to make an unheard of amount of money and talk really fast you must be shot. I personally think he should shut his mouth and donate some of his money. Ever watch cribs? These morons have more money then they know what to do with, how about you donate some of it? he's an idiot, and a rapper. in other words, absolutely useless for anything practical. Thank god he can sell records... which is amazing to me in and of itself.
The funny thing was watching mike myers' reaction. EDIT: It just amazes me that someone like that can go on a program to help raise money and make it into some far left political speach... yea, he just caused about 80% of the people watching to turn the channel... Wow, WannabeGT4 and LewFX, you guys are awesome. It's so encouraging to actually find people that know what they’re talking about when it comes to government and politics.
![]() Just the other day I was thinking about how it might be fun to have a few conversations about politics and government on the site. Conversations, mind you, not arguments. So it’s nice to know there’s at least a few intelligent, coherent, individuals on here. Who would have guessed there could be on a car forum… ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

i think youve been watching too many michael moore movies (aka farenheit 911) if bush sr didnt care, then why is he teaming up with clinton to raise money??? if he didnt care, why did he and clinton team up again and raise money for the 9/11? or the tsumani?? being president does not mean you get to make a ba-zillion dollars for yourself. learn something about the government before you think the president is all for himself.

I just posted about 5 minutes ago saying people who link the hurricane damage to their dislike of Bush, are being bais and don't know what they're talking about. I actually do agree that the gov is too large to respond quickly. This, however, is not the case in regards to the hurricane. Bush declared a disaster area before the hurricane. That put the ball in the cort of the state gov. In other words, they would get whatever they asked for. the problem was that they didnt' ask for anything until it was too late.
My only problem with bush's actions is that he didn't realize that the state government was inept. He should have taken the proper steps in light of the idiocy of the local gov. |

Oprah is a major retard now. You know what, maybe what oprah said wasn't the smartest thing in the world. But at least she gave A LOT of ****in' money to the relief effort. You're on here preaching about how people should do something more than give money, I wanna see you fly to New Orleans and fish someone out yourself. HOw about you put up your house as a shelter to the victims. I would be surprised if you even did so much as to volunteer at the shelters they set up, or volunteer some of YOUR time to the relief effort. I'm not saying I've done anything either, but don't come across those who ARE doing more than your lazy ass and insulting them. Oprah may not have chosen the right words, but AT LEAST shes more a part of the relief effort than someone who likes to come in on forums and tell EVERYBODY ELSE exactly how they're not doing ****, or those who are doing something, how they're not doing enough because they can't put them up, or don't. Alright, don't listen to the words but look at the actions. As for Bush Sr. and that whole issue, who knows, it could go on as publicity or simply maybe he does give a damn. I don't really care what reasons they're doing it for, so long as they are doing it. You really think most of these celebrities would be giving money if there wasn't at least publicity, or rather criticism for not doing anything. DO you really think Bush Sr. or Jr. or even Clinton for that matter, if they weren't in, or formerly in the positions they are or were in, would be a part of this relief effort. It doesn't matter whether they care, because no one will ever know if they truly care except God and themselves. All that matters is that they're doing something. Unfortunately, I have no money to donate, but I do when I can. Unfortunately, a series of events has happened in my life to where I have to take a lot of time to straighten my life out. So no, I haven't helped, but don't come in here and bash on ANYONE who has done something, especially if you yourself have done nothing. Thats my two cents, if you don't like it keep it to yourself, because thats all I'm saying on this topic. EDIT: For those who can't help for their own reasons, simple lack of resources or whatever, there is still a way to help the victims... Pray. Pray to God for them. A lot of you are against the idea of God or don't believe he exists, and thats fine. I'm not here to force religion or belief on you. But do it for them. Do it for the people there who do believe and need prayers and need something to believe in because as of now, thats all they have is belief. These people have lost everything in their life, all they have is God. Right now, your prayers are not about your beliefs or your oppositions, its about your fellow man and woman who need them, and need to believe because w/o belief in God for them, they have nothing left to live for... Ok first of all on Kanye West's defense he is a musical genius, there is no arguing that. If you dont like hip-hop that's fine, but do not attempt to degrade someone because of their genre of music.
And in hip hop/rap's defense. Look at heavy metal I mean wtf, anyone can get on a microphone and scream to the top of their lungs, thats not music. Now as far as Bush goes he is a complete idiot. Our troops went to Iraq to war for the sole purpose of Bush's re-election, nothing more nothing less. There are so many other tactics the US could use in order to put a stop to terrorism, but Bush had to make it a spectical for his own ego. How many more soldiers will die to serve his idiotic purpose? Another thing 90% of his press conferences are pure bull****, he never gets to the point, his answer arent straight forward and he basically talks around the subject at hand. He never generally looks people in the face when he speaks. |

Along with DmVinny, it's fine if you wanna bash Kanye for his politicking, but if you're gonna bash rap/hip-hop/African Americans in general for his statements, then
![]() I've heard/read countless arguments on Kanye's comments, but the one I've most agreed with is "It aint about racism, it should be "Bush doesn't care about poor people" and to an extent I agree. Hurricanes pass through Florida, Texas, the Southeast, and it's a blip on the news. Shoot even here in L.A., when the rains were comin down hard the past winter, they made sure they got out of those multimillion dollar homes before it collapsed. But this hurricane was so utterly devastating, and considering a majority of NO is poverty, relatively speaking they got hosed. The people who stayed, they stayed because where were they going to go? How were they going to get there? I heard that bus transportation was cut off two days before mandatory evacuation was called. How are the people living in severe poverty gonna get out of the city? With what car? Bus? Fly? NO gets a ![]() Now it would be easy to blame it on Bush, even though I am a liberal/moderate there is way too much blind-Bush bashing from my generation and I can recognize that. But on this one...it's like all of em dropped the ball here. Local, state, federal. Local govt. for not making sure the citizens were safe. State for not making sure the area was stable and for its' crap-assed disaster management. Federal for not assisting fast enough (Come on, G-Dub was still on vacation a week into the hurricane). But let's just say they all effed up. Just my opinion. If you think I'm an idiot, lets argue. I like debate ![]() Food for thought: This kind of thing is what Kanye was talkin about, and he had a point: ![]() |

Why dont you people look past the damn name and see that he's just another one of the people of this country who spoke about the things that nobody else wants to talk about how this country right now is so screwed up its prioritites backwards and mixed up how a country led by someone who cares not about the people of this country (unless they are rich white folks) and not about avoiding disasters but being a "good ol' boy" and was vacationing and even after the hurricane struck was playing golf in CA. Who pulled out an excellent FEMA leader who was appointed by Clinton and inserted someone with no emergency experience whatsoever, cuts FEMA funding, refuses to give LA prevention help for something they saw as a danger years ago.
We wanted to impeach Clinton for lying about getting ass in the oval office but we dont dare speak of kicking Bush out even after the death of thousands of Americans here and over seas in disasters forseen and warned about to watch him and his lack of an administration screw up time and time again. What happened to the activists which we so dearly need here today? This nation does nothing but turn its back on those which who are really in dire need of help and point fingers instead of sitting and thinking "oh its hard being president." Of course its hard, but if you cant do the job you better not be holding the office and Bush has clearly NOT done his job. Enough of the bickering just see how awful this Bush-led government is treating the nation, look how big of a mess this country is in. -------------------- |

QUOTE(LewFX @ Sep 7, 2005 - 4:51 PM) wow how about Oprah!!! we as a nation should apoligize to the victoms!!! wtf is that...shes on crack, we didnt cuz this hurricane did we!!! shes donating 1 million dollars, wow thats a kick in the bucket, why dont she help move the victoms into one of her mansions. Oprah is a major retard now. no the US didnt cause the hurricane but guess what. the goverment was neglegent in every aspect of dealing with this 1)it took 5 days for president bush to respond and send any kind of help down there. funny that hes "great" at "saving" other countries but he cant even help his own 2)the president of FEMA was not qualified at all to do his job..guess who appointed him? thats right kids bush 3)did u know that 10 years ago there was reaseach on the levy's of New orleans and the research showed that the levy's could only withstand a cat 3 hurricane? did you know that there was a plan and a budget in affect to rebuild the levys and strengthen them DID YOU KNOW that in the plan after a hurricane hit new orleans that there were supposed to be medical vessels and food vessels waiting on sea to be able to go in ASAP? do you know where that plan went? it dissapeared magically when bush came into office. Did you know that there was another study that showed that new orleans was gonna get hit? might not have been 2 years ago, might not have been 1 year but guess what it happned so bush had information but ignored it and concentrated on issues THAT DID NOT NEED TO BE DEALED WITH ASAP(IE Iraq) 4)BUSH ORDERED TROOPS TO SHOOT. what kind of prez is this? the freakin people are tryin to survive. sh!t i would steal food to, ITS HUMAN INTSTINCT(sp?) and LEWfx of course its hard but if ur elected that should mean ur capable of dealing with this stuff. its not like hes the first prez of the US. In summary the US(bush) KNEW this was gonna happen and ignored it, and they were not prepared. THATS why its the govts fault This post has been edited by Pali_playa: Sep 7, 2005 - 9:26 PM |

I dont know all about this political crap and everything, what I do know is what they show locally is different from what they show yall. I live in Baton Rouge, 50 miles from new orleans and the local news down here shows the good things that are happening, seems like when I see CNN or anything that shows the rest of the world what is going on its all bad stuff. There is so many good things going into helping these people. We own two houses and the one we are not living in currently has 3 families from New Orleans living in it for free. We are paying the 1200 dollar a month note for them. I have also gone down and helped out at the shelters. So many people are doing good things. Its sad that the news focuses mostly on the bad.

QUOTE(BlackCelicaGT94 @ Sep 7, 2005 - 8:57 PM) QUOTE(ILuvMyCelica95 @ Sep 7, 2005 - 1:34 PM) why are we even wasting our time even reading anything Kanye West has to say? The man runs around with angel wings and thinks he's Jesus because he got shot. Half the rappers in this country have been shot. I believe it's a requirement. In order to make an unheard of amount of money and talk really fast you must be shot. I personally think he should shut his mouth and donate some of his money. Ever watch cribs? These morons have more money then they know what to do with, how about you donate some of it? If i had more time i could go on, but i'll save you guys the headache. ![]() He got shot?? I know he was in a car accident that he should have died in but he was shot?? when?? Also - I think the truth is BUSH DOESNT CARE ABOUT POOR PEOPLE! oh i don't know. who cares. I'm just not going to talk anymore. and as much as I am more republican then democrat I agree that Bush is not doing his job well. But I also dont know enough information to form any type of valid debate on the issue. I don't think us arguing about it is going to solve anything. The only thing we can do is help in any way we can. You go from bashing kanye and other rapper's to shutting your mouth? Bottom line is this, you are right everyone should try to help but the biggest help for those people was the government which took their sweet ass time. And the information is right their on every tv station and expression of now homeless people who resided there.
Back to your comments prior about rappers requiring to be shot. You just contridicted yourself when you spoke about not having enough information to form a valid debate, you know JACK **** about rappers therefore your comments are pointless. Myself being a DJ for quite along time now deal with rappers everyday. From spinning with them on stage, to dropping some striving rappers demo out to an audience. They all had to start somewhere, some might of been drug dealers some might of just had stars in their eyes, but none the less they decided to do something with their lives and express it through music. Not everyone lives in a so called protective community (which Im guessing you have). I lived in NY for 23 years hung out in the best and the worst of NY watched friends get shot who didnt deserve it, and watched friends shoot people who didnt deserve it, and i've also been shot at, life is rough not everyone lives in a good area. Truth is people adapt to their environment just like animals. Some have no choice but to live there and some do anything to get out. Stop stereotyping people, it's completely idiotic and immature. |

This is exactly the reason why I said I wasn’t going to talk anymore because it is inevitable that someone is going to be rude. I know enough to know that people with little or no talent are making more money then people who are out there saving lives. I know people who have had to struggle to get where they are today and that’s just gigging in the City wherever they can, I have met so many talented people who can’t make it as anything big but people wrapping about thongs make millions. I love music, it is a large part of my life and I respect a lot of people for what they do but I have little or no respect for the majority of rappers who rap about nonsense. -------------------- Buy my Celica $2,500 - http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=76562&st=0

^ to add to what Vin and Mac have said.
He is actually one of the more socially conscious mainstream rappers out there. His methods may be questionable, but for the most part he is trying to make light of the plight of the people in the most dire straits, which is commendable. You don't see Master P or Ja Rule out there trying to create social change. At least Kanye doesn't rap like "spinnin rims/candy paint/dippin wood/hos on the block/girl get naked/let me see that ass shake", thank goodness. We got enough of that already. |

Listen to a Master P or a G-Unit album and compare it to Kanye's. Oh, and Addiction is a tight song. "Whats your addiction Is it money is it girls is it weed I've been afflicted by not one not two but all three" |
