I know, my life is a friggen soap opera. My friend got drunk and decided to take on the force.  They told him when he was on his knees (6 cops) to put his face on the ground.  He replied F-U. So they sicked the dog on him.  While the dog was holding his arm on one side they put the cuff on his other hand he turned his head and bit the dog back, no sh*t.  6 cops, do they really need to sick a dog on him?
The bite got infected and he almost lost his arm. While I don't agree with my friends cop etiquite, but I still think deadly force wasn't called for.  They called it a bite and release, he said it was on his arm for 5 min.

They warned him didn’t they? If he complied with that the officers asked him to do then he would not have gotten bit. He has no case that will have any standing in court, and will most likely get stuck with all the legal fees for the action if he is the one filing a complaint. If he isn’t and he thinks that because he got an infection that he is going to some way get out of it you are mistaken. You yourself even said that this man was incapacitated, I mean come on, he BIT a dog. Consequently, his testimony won’t hold any real significance in a trial inasmuch as he was obviously drunk and unruly. Being so how can he make an accurate judgment on the amount of time the dog was on his arm?

I don't know why he did what he did.  What I saw of him he was a good person.
I don't know the logistics of training a polce dog.  But if there are 6 officers on the scene and the suspect is on his knees why do you need a dog?

In connection with what I said earlier about how he was unruly, the “FU” to the police is not exactly going to get them on his good side.

You have to look at this from the point of view of the officers, he was not acting in accordance with what they said. He was vulgar and unruly. Taking that into consideration they were being safe by using more force. I agree that they would not have needed 6 officers and a dog if your friend had cooperated in the first place. He got what he deserved.

It is pretty damn funny, but sad. Five years in prison for biting a dog........ Sorry that he was your friend though. It's just sort of one of those things you laugh about as long as it's not you or you don't know the person.

It's five years in prison for assaulting a police officer -- those dogs carry badges too, and truth be told, spend at least as much time training as their human counterparts.

It used to be killing a police dog was unprosecutable, except maybe as an animal cruelty case. It's an odd reflection of PETA's view that animals should be regarded as equals, considering police tend to be among the most conservative groups politically.

the reason they use the dog was because they didnt want to get an officer hurt. They would rather get the dog hurt then the police officer. And the dog as a scare factor to it.

I gotta agree that 5 years is pretty stupid. I personally don't think animals should have equal rights as people, even cop dogs. I think a police dog should be looked at like the officer's gun, not as an officer. It's just a tool to help him do his job. FUNNY that he bit it back though.

Have I ever mentioned that I don't like cops? I really don't like them. There are some good ones, I'll say that. But most are not good. I don't like the police dog thing. They should only use the dog if someone has a gun or is really being dangerous. How big is your friend or whatever you want to call him? I'm a pretty big guy, and I think I could fight off a lot of people at once, but cops are usually trained to handle people. 6 of them shouldn't really have too much trouble unless the guy is pretty big and really knows what he's doing. I don't like dogs either. So, I could see myself killing a police dog if this ever happend to me. That would suck, to go to jail for killing and officer when it's just a dog. It sucks that he's getting jail time for biting a dog. Isn't there something about self defense? Are you just suposed to let a dog tear your arm to pieces and be calm about it?
