There is a kid here in my town, drives a 97 cavalier z24 with exhaust and intake (automatic) he has a sticker on his back window with a guy peeing on a rice grinders sticker, but anywho who would win the celica gt with exhaust and intake, or the cavalier Z24 with exhaust and intake?
(just curious)

Hmmm, well I don't know how much slower a celica is when the rear struts are out. But i raced him almost a year ago, and my front bumper was at his rear, Thats when i got my clutch and was learning how to use it, and was granny shifting cause i wasn't used to it, but i was thinking about re-racing him, but i don't know if me knowing how to drive my car with the new clutch would make a diff or not. So how bad would i beat it if i raced him with my car and had a CT-26 turbo set up?

Yeah we know they are GM, but GM steals engines from Toyota...especially in that car. Many of the parts are toyota.

ive been through the same thing, me and my buddy joe dragged at Toronto Motorsports park duin 1/4 mile. My GT-S, short ram intake, 2.5" catback, short shifter, other than that, stock...against his 2001 Cav z24, short ram intake, 2.5" catback exhaust, autobox. We punched it, he got me off the line, but come 3rd gear, the torque band kicks in nicely on the celi and i bumped ahead. Celi can win, depending on the driver/where u shift/how u shift. I was runnin on 94 octane that day with a shot of penzoil octane booster, and he was just runnin on every day 89 octane. Frankly when it comes to this, it comes down to the drivers. My friend has a '93 Geo Metro 1.0L that he turboed, pushin 90HP if that. He can spank old 5.0L Stangs. He raced a guy in my class this year in his 94 Mustang GT that was auto and spanked him horribly. It all depends on the driver/if they know how 2 drive

In Japan, the Toyota Cavalier isnt much different. It just has a high compression ratio and is just right hand drive and has toyota logos on it. My friend did some research on them cuz he wanted Toyota cav parts for CND made Cav. He found specs and the toyota one only has about 10 more HP if that.

Take the corners with that car. I can eaisly cream just about any car with my celica ST when it was still stock. I had 4 dead shocks, YES 4 dead shocks. I would follow turcks, cars, and hondas around my area traveling back and forth on HWY 59 going N. I would pass them and make them very pissed off, cause I drove very recklessly around the corners cutting lanes and stuff. My way of practice------> drive a camry. Those things have superior handling ability 2nd to none. The celica is just like the camry, just 2X better in everything.

the reason the mirage is faster is coz it's lighter don't your celicas have 3s-ge motors? I can rip the 2.4 cav's up they are slow and heavy.

I know there are a lot of Cavilers on the 4 cylinder dirt track racing. Boy, I am a hillbilly. DIRT TRACK, yee haw! Those things are pretty fast though, with simple bolt ons. I wouldn't want one for build quality. Just hope he breaks down, cause if he's modded, he'll eat you up.

I beat a Z24 with my 6gc 3 outta 4 times at the track, so I have timeslips to prove it.

My advice- pratice launching and give him a shot

Ok. well i was always waundering for you manual drivers out there. when your racing what RPMs do you shift at? When i first got it i shifted right before redline 6000 but i noticed that at about 5800 you start to loose power so when do you guys usually shift? just curious Cause now im shifting around 5800

I never race from a stop. I only do highway races that way i'll never lose against those ****ty ****ing hondas. Hench I have a Auto......

I'd think you could take the little punk off the line. Even If you didn't, by 3rd gear he should be in your dust, i think.

I don't quite understand how racing on the highway is going to help you from getting beat by anything. You'd have to be pulling something pretty clever to out run most any modded honda. Sorry, that's just how it is, they are fast and cheap. I don't like Honda bashing, so every time I see, I just remind everyone how much faster and cheaper they are to mod than our cars. The only thing they don't have going for them is originality. And you can't say something is crappy just cause it's not original. Well, I guess you can do anything if you really want to.

^ well I compleatly agree with you hondas are cheap and can be fast, but lets not forget the average 97 civic with the 1.5 ltr 97 hp motor, some can be very fast, most can be easaly built up to a higher hp then ours can for 1/4 the price. then again driver is everything, I have taken several v-tech civics (not by a long shot but a car lanth or 2 at best) because I can shift fast,

also gata remember that the govoner on our cars is set very high wile civcis and most other cars in the same class are set to 110, ours is over 125 (GT dont know about the ST) so if you can keep up with em just enough so that they max out trying to pull on ya your garentteed a win no matter what mods they have (unelss they get rid of the gov witch most people dont think to do)

as for the POS CAVI, I think you could take him, but its probilby a close race. I cant say I know much about em sept that they suck so

See and thats the big thing. All of us 6gen owners know how much more expensive things are for moding our cars. honda,s acura's, and any other import out there have easy cheap upgrades that make them faster. Us we have to spend a lot more $ to make ours faster, Which if they understood they would be giving us WAY more props. I like the fact that its expensive to mod my 6gc cause then i can have a reputation of moding a car thats hard and expensive to mod you guys know what i mean?

Keep in mind this is a Z24.

Celiracer- First off, nice car. You have a very cleanly modded 6gc. Makes me miss mine a bit. But back on topic, You should be shifting at 5,500-5,600 rpm. 5,500rpm is the 5sfe's horsepower peak and then it just falls off. I'm sure you've felt it. Pratice launching too (if you have a clutch, if not ur screwed), drop tire psi for traction and IMO i think launching at 4,400 is best.

I'm not sure.. I race little hatches all the time and ether kick the **** out of them or if one has a turbo, I catch up tell I maxx out... I don't think I have ever raced the Si yet, Id prolly lose to that. I raced a honda EX, w/ exaust, cai. And whooped the **** out of him. I stop at the stop ligh he pulls next to me and he words the word NOS... I figure he saying get NOS or I have it w/e im 2 poor for NOS.

I say I only race on highways because the celica has more power at higher speeds, i presume. Like a mini Supra biggrin.gif

Plus seeing their face once I take OD off is more worth it. I know I sound stupid or w/e but I think they really are faster on higher mph. May not maxx out as high as them but can accellerate much quicker.

I think the reason the 1.6 Mirage is faster is because it has a Mivec 1.6 which is only availible in the RalliArt Lancer here and has around 170hp, the US Mirage would get killed by a GT, trust me the standard 120hp Lancer here is faster than the US Mirage and I can very easily outrun my OZ.

Yeah it's actually in some JDM Lancers and US Lancer RalliArt, but your's is still putting out more than what a US Mirage has, ours is like 111hp. Mitsu's aren't real bad but the DSM group seems to suffer a lot from Chrysler interference. Yeah they didn't come out with the Mivec 4G until 2001 I think, but it's nice.
