hey guys...i was thinking...why do companies NOT make clear turns for our years (94-95)? They make them for every year surrounding us...but NOT US! mad.gif confused.gif

. . . . so i was pondering . . . . biggrin.gif

Why don't we get a huge group of people wanting them (i know there are a lot of them here) and do something about this tragic problem....LIKE GET THEM TO MAKE THEM! biggrin.gif

...how'd we do that? confused.gif

...just an idea...i would think if we sent the companies a letter saying "hey dude, we have several hundred people here wanting them...make them!" (maybe commit a price...or something? rolleyes.gif

LETS DO IT.... biggrin.gif

btw, what do you think? tongue.gif

?.dangerous when i ponder on the lack love people have for our celies (94-95) wink.gif

It won't work because the number of people wanting them to be made doesn't payout to a company. It's not worth it to them to take the time and resources to do it.

yep, even with everybody on this site, theres still not enough of a demand to justify it. i see the lack of demand as a good thing though. that just means our cars are more unique in the tuning world biggrin.gif.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

this has been tried before, good luck, but you have some other options

1 make your own / have someone make some for you

2 do the 5th gen ones

3 convert to the 96+ front bumper

Sounds $$$ to convert to a 96-99 bumper (get the paint job and all . . . does not sound worth it --- I know it might sound contradicting to what i'm purposing... smile.gif

- - - if you look at my sig...you can see i've made a pair....but i'd like a little more quality tongue.gif

....and the 5th. gen ones in my opinion look really ugly (people who have done that...don't get mad at me...just an opinion smile.gif)

. . . cmon we gotta think really hard...someones gotta know how we can get a custom maker to make them?

Ok if you guys are planning on making the front turn clear I know a bunch of company who'll be more then willing to redo your front turn signals to look like it came out from the Toyota factory. But one thing you should plan on is how many is going to be made clear & how much are your willing to spend & one more then would you want it made with couple LED lights or would you rather have it made with just stock bulb. You figure this out & let me know I'll talk to my people and gie you a price.
Here is a example pic of MR2 side turn signal

Why get a company to make them when we have people on this site to make them for us. If I wanted some clear turns ask fallen Hero to make me some. Fallen Hero makes Custom turn signals and tail lights just PM him if ya want some.

FallenHero's stuff rocks...but FallenHero can't make these for everyone!
- - - hes got a life other than making turns...plus they'd could possibly be cheaper than $70 (what fallenhero charges)...that's if we get enough people on board..lets see what it would cost though....(plus they could be better quality than FallenHeros -> no offence please, no offence meant<-)

interested Project95St202...lets see how much i'd cost....and how many people say "lets do it"....could you look into it?

thanks,

It's not hard looking in to a price but yet it will change alot on pricing if you know what I mean. One way or the other they would have to make some kind of profit making these Celica front turn signals for us if they do make them for us.
One more important fact would be you would have to personally ship in your own fron turn signal to get them done so think about shipping & handling as well depending where you live. I'm guessing more people cheaper it will be depending on stock bulb or LED bulb. Get a EST. of how many is looking to get & i'll try sending one of my front turn to make a ample for all of us.

Good luck finding atleast 100 people intrested. Cuz only at these numbers normal comapys start making stuff. If you knew WHAT is involved in making them - you would think differently.

Cuz ussualy MOLD for housing, MOLD for clear glass will cost so much money what even after 100 sale i aint think it will pay up.

OK why don't we just all stop here about what could happen and what not could happen. I will talk to them tomorrow & see where this project would lead us with price & amount is something they do not care .... it could start us of just making 1 set but yet it would be cheaper for us to make dozen.

any updates project95st202?

Indeed sent pair of front amber to the shop few days ago, he's going to make a proto type of the clear ones. He said it should take about 1 1/2 weeks ~ 2 weeks the most. I'm waiting to see what it'll look like as well. Let hope that everything will work out perfect as if it was stock front turn signals biggrin.gif
Any other info I'll post soon as the first prototype is sent back to me.

None biggrin.gif Im stuck with GT4 turns already, and really dont have a lot of time to start with somthing new... Even if i did, there wount be any necessary amount of people needed. Just what the price might not be right if i tryed to make them..

If i had 94-95 bumper at home or atlest cut out turn places from the bumper i would think about posibility to produce them as in whole new piece. As for now - i aint have anything like this so it is imposible to start somthing and run around looking for a celi to test fit them...

UK based celica-club member PaulN is currently working with a manufacturer to get a quality lens produced. Looking very promising but could do with some confirmed interest to speed up the process.

QUOTE:

Hi All

I have some very good news regarding the Clear front Indicators.

I can get a completely clear lense that is the same quality as the standard ones you wont beable to tell from the manufacture orange ones and will have the dimples for splitting the light.

I can get a first batch done and they are going to cost around £50 a set. Plus P+P from the uk. (it would be good to deal with one person. That person would of course get a free set for the effort).

My supplier confirms they will be as good as the orignal ones with every detail but nice and clear, it may even have and codes from the existing ones!

I am about 4 weeks away from producing this first batch, the templates have been sourced and the moulds will be made in the next 2 weeks.

The batch size is 20 sets, i have currently 7 firm orders from Celica Club Uk but need 20 orders to even attempt to cover moulding costs.

Please note these will be very good quality and i would not expect anyone to pay if i wasn't happy with the batch first. If i get more orders i can make 2 batches.

My email address is paulATajsfitnessDOTcoDOTuk

Cheers

Right Then.

Some great news, the clear indicators have been made, and i have managed to get a set of my car.............

They look so good you wont believe it! The moulds are great every single original detail is on them and you cant tell the difference between the Production toyota sets.

Heres a few photos of them on the car.

As you can see they are pretty Impressive.

Theres a slight change of plan regarding buying these though. I soon Realised with my full time job and running a business too i wasn't going to have the time to sale and keep producing them.

Therefore i spoke to Richard aka wolfie308 from http://www.protocast.co.uk about adding the GT's to his product range.

We have spent a fair while discussing this, and Richard has spent a long time making sets.

So these sets are now available, and you can contact Richard via PM's to wolfie308 or email at contact@protocast.co.uk

Thanks for all your interest and now the time to get in there a make your car look like it should have done before.

Cheers

I don't mean to ruin your post, but that black on those lights looks bad. The lenses are greate, and I love how they're actually lined like the factor lenes. The black just looks like someone used to much black glue or something. I'll make my own with a piece of plexi glass, and I'll clean up that black edge.

EDIT: For reference, compare them to the fog lights in the picture.

Hello everyone ... I have a good news & bad
Bad news first would be I will not produce 94 ~ 95 Clear turn signals sorry to say.
Yes I have made 1 proto type but seems like the UK guy did a pretty well job, & I think he has a great price for all of you guys. The way I am heading is totally diffrent place rather then just having clear len, I'm more of going for full LED conversion which would cost much more then the Uk production of this light.
Well good luck getting them from the UK guy & I'll be back with the LED conversions.

i agree...while they are certainly nice, i think they look too messy for me...Mine arent much better, but im sure that his wont cost 5 dollars like mine did. they'r much better then i could ever do, but im wanting the clean smooth look, and his are too busy for me..im with you on the plexiglass.

Nice work though, props on the skill and craft needed to make all those...

here is a response i got from richard:

"Yo!

Hi wolfie308 here......seems like PaulN and I were thinking about the same
thing at the same time, but as I was already in the business of starting to
make lenses full time, we agreed I should continue with the project because
of his other work commitmets.

As you've seen from my basic web site, my first interest was the Porsche
944 - I drive a '90 S.2, but the last few months have been engaged in Celica
projects weirdly enough.

You may be interested to check the thread I have had running on
www.GT4OC.net for the last 4 months at the top of the styling forum. Just
started to ship GT4 ST 205's and the guys seem to like them -wink.gif

Attached pic is a pair I finished this afternoon and remounted in their
casings together with silver bulbs. These stand up to close inspection and
are almost as good as if they were factory fitted.
Photo taken at night in my kitchen. Will let you have a pic in
sunlight(weather allowing) ha ha!

Lenses, like glass or water are very hard to capture in a snap.

The style might not suit everybody - depends whether you want an OEM or a
more bling look.....all a matter of taste. They are cast from a mould of an
new original lens and I paint the rear edge black where they fit into the
recess. The profile of the lens fits perfectly into the housing with
matching tags the same as the original. A good seal is also provided by the
recessed moulding round the screw hole.

U.K price is £72.50 delivered inc pair of silver bulbs, for overseas, the
price is £75 inc standard air mail(insurance/signed for extra) and payment
by PayPal which costs me nearly 5% for receiving foreign funds

Will send same mail to snapshotgt and Tech9ine

Cheers

Richard aka wolfie308"

{edit}: how much money is that here in the USA?

Hi all,

As you heard im not selling these at all so it makes little difference to me........... BUT The people saying about the black lines, either haven't every touched their front Turns EVER, or Have some special magic powers holding them on lol.

The black line is infact the inner lip which contains the selant already hold the original lenses on. You need this because no water can get in as with the original ones.

If you have made them yourself and theres no black line at all and they dont leak fair play.

Yes they are a bit pricey, but you wont get them like this anywhere for less money. We tried a lot of companys all around the world and no one wanted to touch them with out us putting £1000+ for tooling.

Im really sorry for hikacking the thread here so i will say my farwells and enjoy my great clear front indicators.

Cheers

people just dont know quality when they see it. hmm i wonder if office lighting will look as good as a mold made for the light. if you want quality, unfortunately you're going to pay for it.

These look exelent, cuz they where made by the best way. But, just in case, while attaching the lens, you hade to remove all black glue, paint the housing silver including the place there the black glue was, and use clear silicone glue, this way would be NO black surrounding. Its a bit more work - but this way they could look as 2x better wink.gif

Hi All.

Respect to doGGy and thanks for the compliment. My lenses are an exact copy of the originals - only crystal clear. They show all the marks from the mould the original orange lens was cast from.

So although they are near perfect, the housings were never designed to have clears fitted to them. With an orange lens, the colour of the black sealant is less seen as you see the orange colour of the lens reflected within itself(hope that makes sense.

So when you fit a clear lens, the black perimeter is unavoidable. The black sealant is thermo softening and could I guess be scooped out bit at a time after heating to about 100 deg C, digging out what you can, then as it cools, reheating and repeating the process. If you have the patience to do this, you could respray the recess (I have an almost chrome spray paint) and refit with a clear silicone - which I've got.

Only reservation is my stuff is more translucent than clear - I've never been able to find a water clear silicone. However with chromed recess, I think doGGy old chap, you might have a graet idea there.

Reservation 2) How many people apart from you and me would be prepared to do this? I'm an eccentric, obsessive, perfectionist lens maker - what about the regular enthusiast?

I only I'd read your post first, I could have been tempted try it on the set I did this morning -bugger!
May just have to buy another new set to try it out, the ones I've done I'll put on eBay as an advert for my product.

If you check out eBay.co.uk and my username 'protoprojects' you can see the feedback I've got on the Porsche products I've made.

Hopefully a few people will order a pair, as I've borne all the costs and done all the work myself to make these without any cash up front or comittment from any one.

Time for supper over here, so I'll catch up with you guys later.

Best Regards,

Richard

If you decide to get all adventurous and make the lens with the clear sealant, id be interested...i didnt mean to come off as rude about the product, i really like them, i like them as well as the idea of making something like those, but without the grooves... id just like turn signals that kinda of match projectors. nice job on the quality product though.

No offence taken - these things are all a matter of personal taste. Good point of doGGy's, I always welcome new ideas. If I can bring myself to part with $90 for another pair of stock units, and I'm bored/sad over Xmas I may give it a whirl. Strange tho - I'm supposed to be selling lenses not buying them wink.gif

However, as I am only supplying the lenses, there's nothing to stop you doing it if you're feeling brave.

The groove has to be there otherwise you'd have to redesign the backing and the lens and the way they bond together to be water tight. Believe me, this ain't goin to happen.

Richard

Just to add to the groove debate, if theres no lips or grooves the indicators could leak when wet! The sealant can be reused and therefore is back to nearly how Toyota had designed it.

I have taken some more photos and will post asap, but let me assure you the black line can hardly be seen in day light and bear in mind i was a few inches away from the car for showing the build quality more than anything.

lol Everyones been screaming for these, theres a set ready and now some (very few) people are saying "yes but"

Richards going to be busy for the new 6 months supplying the Uk and Europe so i would imagine the order book is filling up nicely now.

Speak to you soon

Morning all,

Here's a pic I received yesterday from Jente in Holland who said

' I am very happy with them. They fit perfect. You may use this picture on the forum. '

Nice one Jente smile.gif

I now have stock available to order and am shipping all orders with pair of amber AND pair of silver bulbs.

Am interested to look at any other Celica variant where a clear OEM option is not available.

Hi Bud,

Price is .....£75 inc 2 pairs bulbs, shipping and my PayPal costs.

Not cheap, but they are individually hand cast and I reckon as close to OEM as anybody's going to get.

Will post more pics later

You're talking about price in Euro's, and you use the word "reckon." That's a word my people use. Us back woods West Virginia people. How much is that in US currancy? And is it even going to be avalable to poeple in the US? 1 euro is like 2 dollars, I think. Is that really $150?

I like the diamonds too, but i just think they dont match the other lights unless you have projectors. Id like to have the sidemarkers, turn sigs and headlights all match....

Hi there,

Price is £75 Sterling not Euros which works out around $132 Dollars US. Please bear in mind that these were produced wholly at my expense without a guarantee of any sales. If I knew the market would yield several hundred sales, then the price would be probably less than $100. If I could sell a thousand, then I'd get them made by injection moulding and they'd probably be less than $50.

My lenses are an exact copy of the originals, so you can't get any more 'factory' than that. Also this is not a hobby anymore - it's what I do full time.............and you have to sell a lot of lenses to make a living if you live in the U.K !

In the meantime, I'll speak to some guys over here about the side markers. I have a feeling the lens may be glued/welded to the backings, which means separating them from the backings will be a lot harder. Again an item like this would be better made by an industrial process, as the labour/material cost to do it the way I do, would make them too expensive to be able to sell.

Laterz

Your Celica lenses look very good, wolfie308. I'm tempted to order some from you.
However, is it possible to make the lens clear as to match projector headlights? I would certainly order those!

Another question: would it make a difference if I set up a little something with the Celica owners club here in the Netherlands?
I figure I could get an order for ten pair if you could drop the price a little.

Hi Sven,

Sorry I specialise in replicating the original look in as close to OEM quality as I can. Creating a new lens design from scratch I have to admit, is not viable for me. Regardless, they will definitely clean up the look of your car.

Kash,

Have to admit sales have been slow although all feedback has been excellent. Will consider lowering price in coming months, really dependent on volume of work on other projects.

Those clear inidicators look unbelievable! Excellent work! smile.gif

I would love to get a pair but the price in $AUD is just not justifiable at this point in time...

Mailed Richard about clear corners some time ago. Heard nothing else since then. Could he be on a vacation?
