1990 Toyota Starlet Turbo RHD, whadda u think. Options

I was out with my friend joe 2day lookin for a system for his car, and we ran into my buddy Big Mike(hez hudge, 6'3" and 260, hense the name). Any ways, him and his bro are starting a business where they are going to import cars from japan to toronto. Right now between us and japan there is a '90 Skyline GTR modified in a creat headed to his house. They are using it as an advertising method to bring to car shows. He asked me if i wanted to help the buiness in 2 ways. 1. would be helpin him get a discount on wheels and tires(just got a job a wheel and tire place), and 2. Me buyin a car/advertising. So i told him im on a budget/want somethin Toyota. So he suggested an old AE86 Torino, but 2 many ppl want them/know them so it would probably get stolen quick. He also suggested a 90 Starlet Turbo. He told me he could get me one thats got some performance mods, i.e. suspention, engine, exhaust, wheels, etc. for around $4500 CND landed. So i told him i would think about it. He already found one through his dealer in Japan. Its a 90 Starlet turbo, HKS exhaust, HSK SSQ BOV, lowered on a set of springs *unknown*, 16" after market mesh wheels, stock interior except for a Apexi AFC(the orignal with the dials). Its pretty good n damn fast for the $.

If i do decide to help him out, it wont be untill spring. So he wants me to think about it and figure out what i want. So heres where i need ur help. If you could get any JDM toyota car from 1991 and older, what would it be? mind you these cars are all RHD and they can be any car that was made in japan. Im thinkin the Starlet would be cool cuz they are a very unique hatch back, and are fast as hell. My friend just swaped a Starlet motor into his 4 door trecel beater. Its soooo rediculusly fast.

I'd get that Starlet so freaking quick. Man, I don't think it'd matter how much money I had, I'd get that thing. It's not AWD thought is it? If it was, I'd be wanting to figure out how to get one to the states. I just love those little fast cars. I wouldn't mind a Skyline either, just because the parts for that thing, and potential are massive. I'd still pick the Starlet though. Don't feel to bad about a AE86, unless it getting stolen is a big concern.

Yep Bulldog, the starlet gt are not awd, they are front wheel drive.

yea, see i would get a skyline, even a GTS-Type M, but they are stupidly expensive. Cheapest skyline ive seen is 11K CND. Skylines are expensive. JDM toyota are cheap. That starlet above is only $5000 imported from Japan. U can buy a 5th gen all-trac for $5000-$8000. U can buy 1J and 2J MKIII Supra's for like $7000-$10000.

Check out import concern before your buddy goes ahead. They are the most established and have a very good rep.

as far as the vehicle, not bad on the performance side, style-wise, a sera would be way cooler IMHO.
The base engine in a sera is the same as a paseo, but the starlet can be swapped in. A little more work, but hey, gullwing doors are way cool.

yea, i was thinkin about a sera too. I kinda want somethin more that is holy **** fast as is, without swaping any thing in. I already cheaped out jns and thouse others, aswell as japaneeseimports.ca. But i think im just gonna go through my buddy. He flys over 2 japan ever 2 or 3 months to check out cars that his dealer finds/buys...also his bro is about 2 move over there in about 2 months or so for a year or 2. I can even get his dealer to coustomize a car for me n then ship it over. His GTR on the way over has an authentic Nismo body kit. I could even get him to ship me over a swapped Sera.

yo gofor gt four!!!!!!! lol well japan isnt the only place you can get i know most central american countries got the starlet turbo like for sure i know guatemala got em and alot of them!! i saw about like 5 different ones in one day at the tracks!! i think it be easier to get it from some where we can get by land? just ma opinion

wow. that has to be one of the ugliest toyotas i've ever seen. lol. sure it's quick and all, but i mean, for $3,788 you can get other better looking fast cars... im guessing cars are very hard to find in canada. because i understand that you mention its cnd money. that and usd money is about the same. but hey, if you have the money and like it then go for it. lol. but yeah, it looks like a fun quick car. like a little go-kart. but imo it's ugly.

bro they ain't fast at all stock standard they are s**t they have lots of turbo lag and who wants a puny 1.3 turbo get a 2.0 turbo. My mirages outruns them everytime and it's an auto. If you think thats fast whats wrong with you? we have thousands of them over here. Cyborg mirages are fast 175 hp MIVEC.

Dam I like the crazy looking body style. The thing is with the starlet, tho is that the turbo engines are hella weak as H-E-L-L. Your looking at what??--->140HP. Even my 4age has more than tat!
If your gonna get that car, I suggest you just get the engine and toss it in a Paeso. At least it looks more decent with the body style.

The cyborgs are the ones to get 1990 ones 4G63T most people do 4G63T swaps 165 HP stock bloody quick and very rare just gotta maintain them properly. Or there is a newer shape mivec one which has 175 HP it's fast.

Seems to me that a 1.3 liter turbo has some real potentail, even if it isn't fast right off the bat. And, it's light, very light.

Oh, I see what your saying now. I understand were your coming from, and I can see were you would think that. I really just like ugly cars that go fast actaully. I love sleepers. Dodge Omni turbo, or a Metro with a turbo Swift swap. I guess that turbo engine would come out of this car here. I never knew it came in the Starlet, I thought it was just the Swift. Looking pretty is cool too. If I had a really fast car that looked ****ty and people thought was slow, that would be my Zen (spelling?). I would like it to have a nicer interior, but it isn't nessisary. Really, it's just how I am. Besides that, I like Import cars more than American cars, so I'm a ricer anyway.

What's the link to that? I've heard of putting the SR20 in a Pulsar, and seen it done before, but I never knew any came like that. And AWD would be awsome. I'd get that over this Starlet thing. Sorry to the Toyota's of the world, but Nissan as got you on this one.
