So i am painting my front bumper using cans u can buy at ur auto store (did a 180 into a ditch and messed it up- quick fix)
So far i sanded it down, fiberglassed it, primed it, sealer primed it, painted 2 coats of paint on it. Now it was coming along and getting that shine i wanted so i let it dry a couple of days to see if i should add more.... well i decided to go ahead and coat 2 more times as i didnt think it would hurt. So i decided to wetsand it at 1500 just to scratch the surface a tad to get it to stick better after sanding it i started painting again but this time it started to do something i cant figure out: ![]() Kinda hard to see as that was the best shot i could do but the paint i guess is drying too fast? I coated it with a very wet look. Anyone here know what could be causing this or if i did something wrong? This is my 2nd try to get it really shiney the first time it did this so i decided to resand it and try again... needed to fiberglass some area also.... |

did you also try and use a clear coat too? Should make it shine better and last longer.
-Two weeks ago i spray painted my bumper too. Only the spots that were chipping off. I even have a friend that spraypainted a whole 89 Lincoln Mark VII primer black with white stripes down the middle. Its called the skunk. Took like 33 cans of spraypaint. -------------------- |

Havnt put a clear coat on it yet.... just trying to get it to have a nice shine before i start clear coating it.
Not sure if it matters if it does, just trying to get a perfect job i guess ![]() And if i did clear coat it in that condition would it fix it ? or make it bleed thru? |

It looks as if it's orange peeling. Does it have a bumpy texture to it? If not and it's just drying dull it's the paint. Most base coats don't dry with a gloss because they are ment to have a clear over them. Unless you purchase the one step paint which has the clear in the base. Also after you clear coat, it may come out a little duller then it could be. This is when you LIGHTLY wet sand it will 2000 grit paper and buff it. It will come out like glass.
