well think im about to finally get my st205 front clip, got a mechanic that do the swap $500. Its been a while and I'll do a search later on the topic, but for now what else do i need besides the front clip?

I have a 1996 celica st, so I know I'll need a celica gt trany or camry with the engine swap sooner or later, I mean i can still use my current transmission temporarily until i find nother one, kinda like how im still using my stock struts with lowering springs until i have money to buy koni ones.

Also the final part im not sure bout is someone said I need new axles for an st? Does anyone have details?

heres a check list:

3SGTE swap for ST
1. Front Clip - check
2. camry/gt tranmission - check
3. new Axles - ??? no idea someone help

If u plan on doing alot of work to the 3s in the future, skip the GT tranny and go right to a Camry V6, or even 3sge, no worries then.

yeah, but remember to pick up the hubs for whatever tranny and axles you're using. Just find an old donor camry v6 and grab everything from the tranny to the hubs and all the brackets in between.

you need to get a combination of 5sfe and 3sgte clutch kits.

just to clarify, you can't use your current transmission temporarily, if you are referring to you ST tranny. it won't bolt up, i was a little confused as to which one you were referring to.

also, you should probably get the wiring diagrams from the UK, otherwise your mechaic will have his hands full.

good luck! i'd order all the stuff like a new timing belt, spark plugs and wires, and little parts right now, cuz you have to special order them from japan/UK and that will take a few weeks. the ST205 engine was never in the US and parts are not available here for it

so no J-spec GT-FOUR huh? thats too bad frown.gif

as for your swap. you might want to look into abatardi's groupbuy on custom axles (in engine/performance forum). apparently gt axles snap like twigs under the 3rd gen 3sgte's torque... hehehe biggrin.gif

to use the tranny that comes with 3sgte, do you have to convert to awd? how much is that/what parts do you need to do that?

um, you have to call places, you can't do JDM parts over the internet thru dealers. i'd call toyotaworld.com or email roo at www.digitalroo.com

someone on here suggested to use the 3s-ge tranny...they are right.. it is way stronger than the stock gt tranny...you can get it off of a curren or ss-iii celica...go to www.jarcoinc.com...you can get everything you need for like 400 bucks or so....for axles ask whoever you get the tranny from to include the axles and everything else too...the guys at jarco will hook you up...they know what they are doing...oh and dont email you have to call if you want a response.

read more up on the tranny, not really worried bout the other parts, the biggest thing is getting the tranny. so the choices are

3sgte transmissions:

1. Turbo mr2(rwd must be converted) - rated up to 600hp
2. Camry - rated up to 500hp
3. 3sge - rated ??
4. Celica gt - rated up to 300hp

Anyone know what the 3sge tranny is rated at. Also since the mr2 tranny is rwd how much of a pain is it to get this converted for fwd. I think ill just get the camry or 3sge.

I'd say safely the 5sfe tranny can hold 250HP...300 is kinda pushing it...besides if it has that much power and you plan to race it...that tranny will go...you're going to need to upgrade IF you want to have that much power.

You can use the US Spec spark plug wires if you switch over to the US spec distributer. As for the JDM only parts (valve cover gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, ect) good luck. I had to order mine from a dealership in the UK.
