gonna be expensive as hell though. Personally, I dont see why they made vista in the first place. They were working towards stability from windows 3.x to windows xp, and were almost there, and now they scrapped it all and are gonna start all over again. They were finally getting to what people wanted and trashed it all in an instant.

what are you talking about? vista is built on XP.its going to be better and more stable then xp is. it has also been around 4yr since xp has come out. ms is well overdue for a new version.

all the graphic stuff is done 100% in 3d using the 3d hardware of your video card (just like todays games) so it will really not be taxing on your system at all. current xp does everything in 2d mode why your graphics cards massive power goes unused.

yep, its gana be pretty sweet, I understand that there tring to make every fuction/feature/setting do-able via the gui interface and comand promp to compete with linix as many developers rely on the conmand line.

They did not go into that 3d desktop much at all, its actualy a much bigger system, as in the whole desktop it going to be a 3d environment, like Sphere XP but I dont know now much there really going to go with. you should be able to place windows on the background, and using the mosue, scroll around the to another window behind you.

but yeah its gana be pretty sweet, and very stable as well semlessly unite all things like laptops, PDA's etc.

That's pretty neat... although seems somewhat reminiscent of a Max OSX... ;]

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

you cant say anything about performance at this point yet. the beta process is strickly for testing and trying to weed out issues and make it bug free. once its out of beta, they will work on speeding things up . alo, vista needs new graphics drivers to be written specificly for them and may compaies dont have these ready yet.

But the vast majority of computer users don't NEED high-end graphics at this point, which is why most computers sold come with the integrated graphics. Having a graphics intensive OS will probably drive the price of the average system up.

sorry guys, i thought i heard that vista was built from scratch. Its supposedly built off windows xp 64 bit, which is a good OS. Depending on the price i will probably buy it.

i think 80% of all the computers sold today have a fast ATI or Nvidia card in them already. so that really shouldnt be a big problem. apple does those gui graphics with bottom of the line graphics cards that they put into their machines.

A lot of it has to do with vga utilization, I mean simple 3d environments with minimal rendering takes nothing to do, its the shading, smoothing and effects that take up all the video proccessing power.

anyway the date for release is mid 06, however I dont think it will be out, or really worth getting till late 06, mainly because without adaquite drivers its not going to have good functonality, although I think nvidia has a bata driver out for bata 1 now.

I beta tested that... honestly it feels like xp with a facelift. At the time it was very unreliable (it was beta though) and hopefully they will have worked out most of the bugs by release.

I've got it on my old PC now, it does have that xp like feel, and yeah finding drivers is a lost cose, I can even get my NIC card to work but it has some pretty cool features and I do like the looks (as far as the theme of it goes) I have not really got a chance to work with it much yet (had if for 1 day so far) but I'm already pretty inpressed.
