hahahaha awesome, nice job John biggrin.gif

to clean the firewall, use some sort of degreaser like 409, simple green, puple stuff, ect...then wipe clean. Buy a few rolls of paper towels and maybe a scruby sponge wink.gif

glad to see you got the motor out smile.gif now buy a clutch for the 3s motor /5s tranny. Also, since the motor is out change your front sway bar bushings, it will be very easy now and the are $6 each, and maybe your fuel filter too.

If you want to cut serious grease from the engine bay before the swap, pick up a big stack of cheap shop towels at the auto parts store and go to town with stuff like Gunk (comes in a white can and works amazing) Simple Green like Dustin mentioned, or just a can of brake cleaner. It all works great.

Good luck with the swap, I should be buying my own clip very soon. smile.gif

that's were Zips motor's from too, they've gotten cheaper now that they sell more motors. and they're shipping is very fair.

STI is my new favorite place smile.gif just waiting for them to get what i want...otherwise it's JHot for me

thats the famous cold start injector time switch. that and the green one (coolan temp) brake on almost EVERY 3stgte. without that one, your car will have a hard time starting cold, and if the green one goes, it willl run like total ****.

try to find those used, cause toyota tries to rape you for them. for the injector time switch, you could try a 5sfe one, but i think they have different ohm ratings so it might now work right for you.

PB Blaster is your friend. Coat whatever bolts you plan on working on the day before you actually do the work. Make sure to use only 6 point sockets and stay away from wrenches whenever possible. An impact is also nice since it doesn't put constant torque on the bolt head's corners and will not round them off... It may however snap the head off the bolt.

using 6 point. using an impact. using a oil based bolt product. these bolts are just rusted bad. gunna spray more on and tackle it tomorow.

PB Blaster works where everything else fails. WD-40 can't touch it. Letting it soak is key so tomorrow should go better for you.

pb blaster helps, but it cant work magic on rounded bolts.

go to sears and but a set of craftsman bolt outs. get the full set that can do 10m- 17m. striped bolts will never be a problem again!

?

How in the world did you manage that? I don't think I've EVER rounded off a nut or bolt using a 6-point socket.

Do you have a breaker bar?

I think it's obvious that spraying oil on a rounded off bolt isn't going to help it wink.gif. The Craftsman Bolt-Out set is however, the best thing since sliced bread.

the welds arent the whole problem with those. the real isse is that they are made of really thin gauge stainless that might crack after a while. who cares tho, put it on, and see how long it lasts. at least we will have someone who did some real world testing on it.

Yeah I will make two statements. Nothing turbo related since it's far from my field.

If you plan on working on a car, PB Blaster is always something you should have on hand. It will do wonders, it has a few applications too, read the bottle.

Craftsman tools from Sears are awesome. Lifetime warranty I THINK.

everything is coming together pretty well so far.
whats left? put the engine harness on.
drop it in. and attach all the crap. right?

yeah manny it fits fine the only thing that hit was the bracket that the chains attach to to lift the motor out.
i just grinded a few mm's off. fits fine.

Make sure you change the hose from hell, and the hose from hell on earth while you have that engine and turbo out. Also there is a small coolent hose on the back of the engine under the intake manifold you should change with the engine out. It may not seem like a big deal but mine had a hole in it and it took me an hour just to change the little hose in the back of the engine. Something that would have taken 5 minutes with the engine out.
