For those of you who have swapped your 7A out and a 3s in. Do you still have power steering? Did you have to make some custom fittings to work, or did the fittings that come on the 3sgte engine work with USDM rack and pinion?

I would like to know this too. I need to hook my ps back up. I believe you just need the tubing and resevoir from a gt, but would like to know for sure.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

i dont know how different the ST power steering is, but for my car, i had to use my stock resevoir. then on the pump, i *think* i used the 3sgte pump, but had to grab an extra fitting that was on my 5sfe pump. the ps lines in my car are just a 17m banjo bolt.

Nah, he just did my 3" exhaust and my custom rear mount that I needed for the e153. Billy and his shop are great though, on my exhaust its ss, he said if it ever rusts through or I have any trouble with it or the mounts to come back up and he'd hook it up. Which I already used cause it was hitting on something and rattleing so they fixed that for free, good shop good guys.

I haven't had a chance to drive it since I found out what the problem was, because its parked for the winter and uninsured, so I don't know how it runs now.

The problem was that the guy I orignally took my car to stole me ecu and gave me his cali mr2 ecu, so I had a o2 codes, 21 and 25 and I also had a egr code 71(jdm's don't have egr). So I checked the part numbers and sure enough they were different, I got the right ecu and put it in and all my engine codes are gone now.

I also had major vibration when I first start off or step on the gas. So I filled my rear mount because billy said that the st mount is to weak for the 3s and he recommended filling it, because he said under load the engine was probably twisting and hitting on something causing the vibrations. Which it moves not at all now so hopefully that is fixed too.

I need to out my ps back in and swap out the passenger side bracket for the gt one I have the st185 bracket on it now.

I also noticed that the shop that screwed everything up loostened the bolts that hold my calipers on and one of the fell out, causing my caliper to move and my brake pedal to drop or push up, and also I could here something scraping on the driverside.

Other than getting screwed by the shop, sounds like some pretty routine post swap issues. Good luck the rest of the way and dont give up - its worth it. wink.gif

does the vibration happen when ur pushing it or just normal driving? i had a similar problem with mine. turned out that the passengers side GT mount put the engine way too close to the chassy and when i'd accelerate hard id get this seriously bad vibration throughout the whole car because the pulleys were hitting the chassy. simple fix...the guys who work on my car just extended that passengers side mount.

i think i got a pic here somewhere but its not very clear...ill try and take a better one tomorrow when the sun shines.

btw for the hell of it i got my hands on an st205 passengers side mount (still tryna find the other 3 lol) tho not yet in the car. it looks like it will give more space than the "unextended" GT mount

It doesn't vibrate during normal driving it vibrates when I let the clutch out when I first take off or when I step on the gas fairly hard. I don't think the pulleys are hitting the frame, because they are not that close to the frame and there are no rub marks on my pulleys or frame. Anyway with the rear mount filled with poly, the engine doesn't budge.

bboy which pulley was hitting? If its your ps pully, thats not my problem right now because I don't even have my pump on the car.

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be rubber spacers in between the cross member and where it bolts to the frame?

Yes, there are supposed to be rubber spacers there.

You can use the GT lines and resevoir, or just have custom ones made. There is a shop right around the corner from me that can make custom lines for cheaper than the stock Toyota ones, so I usually just go that route.

Do you have all the parts? It's kinda hard to explain... if you could take a few pics of what you got then I can draw on the pic and show you what goes where.

Yeap, that sounds right. Basically, you put the figure-8 things into the holes on one side, and on the other side you put the matching round bushings. I think the figure-8s go on the top. And there should be a metal bushing that goes inside each rubber hole to hold it together...

Hopefully that makes some sense... lol...

I think it does, that may be causing some of the vibration as well.

what im doing is using the GT pressure hose, i replaced the 7a pressure hose with it. Just unscrew it from the steering rack and then connect the "O" ring side of the hose into the the ps pump using the large banjo bolt. Also you will have to extend the return hose in order to fit the new resevior since you will have to mount it up near the alternator. Unless you get creative and find a way to mount it near the firewall.

So what did you guys do about the pressure hoses that connects to the engine itself for intake and outtake of air?

Why not mount the resevoir near the passenger side mount where it is on the gt and gt4?
