So about one week ago I discovered an abandoned Celica in a parking lot at a grocery store. The body is in bad condition and it has around 180,000 miles. It has no license plate, and no registration or inspection sticker. I want to take it home and start rebuilding it, but I don't know if it is a crime to take an abandoned car in North Carolina. What should I do cuz I want it reeeely bad...

try to get the vin # and you could do a car fax report - or call police to ask - i'm sure it is a crime every where if you take things that didn't belong to you - even if you take it how are you planning to get a title for it or registering it for that fact --

Or, they'll tow it, give it sufficient time to have the owner claim it, try and contact the owner, then auction it off to cover the costs.

yea i agree with all of you... i need to go to the police, but i don't want them to tow it... i don't even see why they would, because it has major exterior damage and smells really bad cuz hobos have been sleeping in it on cold nights... also, i was maybe hopin to get a salvage title on it if its possible

Legally you got to go to the dmv and apply for an abandoned car title. After a certain number of days, if no one claims it, its yours. Right now if you take the car you have literally stolen it.

Nobody will know or care, if you just took a hauler there and load the car up and hi tail outta there. People will think that its your car or something else. If someone asks, just say that its reached its due date and its gonna be impounded.

I say contact the police, and the DMV ask what you can do.

so i went to the dmv today and talked to the inspector... he said since its not on my property i cannot apply for an abandonment title, so i have to somehow get up with the owner of the parking lot and talk to them about it... he said theyll probably have it towed and then ill need to make a deal with the wrecker company... does anyone know how much that will cost me?

this is a weird thread...

lol, well, i don't know why you'd take such a crummy celi...no offence to celicas, but one that is in so bad shape...i would not do it...

...another thing...you might end up spending more $$ fixing it up than you would buying a kinda decent one...

just my 2 cents...

This doesn't sound like it will end well. I hate to say this, but it sounds like you're talking about a 10+ yr old car in horrible condition with high miles, possible body damage, maybe driven hard, needing who knows what. If you want a reliable but sporty car that won't need a lot of money spent on it, a celica is the perfect choice, but not this one. this car could need new timing belt, clutch, gaskets, cv joints, upholstery, tune up, etc. and then it will still be a salvage title car that wasn't taken care of. try autotrader.com, cars.com or craigslist.com if you really want a celica.

have at it...but you'll be spending way too much money just to get it to run decent. Imo, this is a very bad idea.

It will matter if you need a to call a locksmith and get new ignition keys, new battery, tires, oil change, timing belt, brake pads just to get it running. Take pics of it to a service shop and get a quote on what they think it needs if you aren't sure how much it will cost to make it run.

well i can hotwire the iginition, ill just use a battery out of one of my cars that works, the tires just need air, who cares about the oil if im gonna run it to the ground, the timing belt is fine, and the brakes are fine... who needs brakes anyways. be a man and use your feet.

They have a black 6gc sitting on 4 flats that hasnt been moved in 6 months by my college. Wish I knew who owned it, I bet they would take 200-500 for it. Then I could start my next 6gc.
