Anybody who has changed their colors, what problems did you have? Did you paint under the trunk, hood, door jams, door inners, engine bay?

i had no problems for the 10 months i had my car after it was painted.
i had everything painted. only way you could tell it was red was if u pulled the interior panels off. i opted for mat black engine bay. painter said since the celica was a mini Supra, minus the go goodies, might as well paint the bay like the supra. -------------------- Jared Harwell

same color = best wear/tear look over the years. A lot cheaper.
change color = a lot of money if done right...and there are some down-sides... when i got my car painted (last sept) i had it done same color...for a few reasons^^look above ![]() ~snap This post has been edited by snapshotgt: Jan 26, 2006 - 11:54 PM -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

snapshot you really didn't post any reasons.....besides one cost more...
but changing colors will yeild the same result as painting the same color provided you get QUALITY work done.. i did my engine bay on my own pretty happy with the quality and work came out nice... but if you change color spend the few extra bills on jams, bay and ect.. it will be seen and look funny and like the job wasn't complete if you don't |

not to offend dan or anything but when he went from teal to black and didn't do the jams and engine bay and trunk and so forth... It kind of looked tacky.... but he knew it would and is doing it right this time... If you change colors, opt for everything being changed that COULD be seen...

There a quite a few problems doing a complete color change *right*.
Jams Engine Bay (if your going show it really needs to be done) Preping EVERYTHING all new weather stripping removing engine, or almost everything out of the bay There is more, I am just still out of it a little bit, but unless your going to a really good painter or have the time/money todo it like Dan I would stay with white, perhaps mother of peral so you can just shoot the jams. As a past worker in a paint shop, I can tell you, it's harder than you think. You think, "Oh, it's just a couple more things." But it's not just a couple more things. On the Celica you have to worry about the truck and seals all around it. You have to take absolutely everything off, including doors. Masking and sand are a pain. It's easy to get the flat stuff, but when you start into the little holes needed for color change, it's a pain. It's more than twice the work of an all over same color. My dad always says, "If you don't like the color, don't buy it." It is however possable, and with the right devotement, it can look very nice. The problem is, most do it haff way. This looks bad, and causes the paint to peal and chip and look horrable. The paint jobs my dad and I do last just as long or longer than factory paint. We do it right, and we use high quality materials.

I agree... if you are going to do it, do it correctly or you will regret it

put it this way to "do it right"
i've removed my engine, and 99% of everything in the engine bay all weather stripping, windows, doors and a hand full of other random things... sanded down to bare metal (which isn't really necissary) and prepped as much as i could |
