I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

I have a pic of my setup. Hope you can make out where the tire ends and my semi-like wheel gap begins. If not, I shall try to take another pic for you.

If you want to fill the wheel gap with 16" wheels, try a 225/50

I actually went down from a 225/50 on my wheels. My overall tire diameter is closer to stock and the car doesn't roll onto the sidewalls like it did with the taller tires. Imo, if you want to run 225/50 you should use a 7.5" wheel. I wish I had gotten a wider wheel when I bought these ages ago. I will be changing my suspension soon, which will make my car fill the wheel arches a bit more. I think I will take a profile pic later today, it might be helpful.

I never had sidewall problems, but I did have 16X8..

When I would drive aggressively, the height of the 225/50/16, coupled with the 7" width of my wheel would result in the tire flexing laterally. The outer edge of tread and some of the sidewall (in extreme cases) would be contacting the pavement, reuslting in a noticable increase in steering effort once the load had shifted and a bit of sliding. A 7.5" wheel should make this at least somewhat less likely to occur as would a lower, stiffer sidewall. I didn't have problems day-to-day, but at an autocross it was definitely noticeable. I haven't been back out to a race since I have gone to a lower profile tire, but it "feels" better when doing foolish things on public roads.
