does everyone have this stupid hump from the spare tire in their trunk? I notice in some members' cars its totally flat, does that mean they took out the spare... I'm tryin to put subs in the trunk and keep the spare so do i really have to work around this hump

Mine has it.

but omg don't complain to an ST205 owner a bout boot space. Mine is even higher, because of the AWD running gear pushing the fuel tank back, which in turn pushes the spare tyre even further up....

my boot floor is at least a good few inches higher than yours, judging by your pics.

5th gen rear and 6th gen rear are different

the spare well is sunk into the trunk floor so that the top of the spare is even with the floor

yah thats deffinetly a 5th gen rear. since i have had both models i notice that the 6th gen are alot akward then the 5th gen. ive got 2x12" subs in my 5th gen with ease, and thats with the hump in the back. the 6th gens bump bluge out more and its not really centered with the car so it be akward putting a system there with the hump....

like tangcla said, the st205 (GT-Four) has much less space than the st204/at200 (GT/ST)

the GT and ST have a flat trunk like the pic posted here

user posted image

and the GT-Four has the fuel tank and rear diff under htere which pushes the spare up about 4-5 inches wink.gif

mine is flat, but my spare is pretty thin, never heard of that spare tire hump in the truck, makes sence with the gt-4 but cant see why a fwd would need it? kash1355 could you post a pic of it with the carpet out and the spare off to the side.

dont worry buddy, i am in the same situation as yourself except my spare is on the left side of my truck, but i have a huge hump as well, and its making it very frustrating to design a sub box thats gonna fit nicely.

That's what I thought.

Then I came back to my car one day, one of the tyres were completely flat - turns out I drove over a nail. frown.gif

Thank goodness the car had a spare. (not my car hehe)

I would love a full sized spare over my little spare. I've used it only once, but you have to be really careful of a little spare. I don't mind the lack of trunk space. I bet gt-4s don't have any space back there. I know what mine would be like with a full size spare and the brace bar. Looks like you guys might just have to get rid of those subs. frown.gif lol

I have the exact same problem (full sized spare) leaving a nasty hump on the boot floor.

What this means is my sub box does not stand upright (as the tyre prevents it from sitting flush) so it is lying on its back in the boot (at an akward angle)... the result being the sub faces straight into the parcel tray (about 3 inches away) and LOT's of tray rattle! frown.gif

I believe that 96 onward Celica's contained a space saver tyre so that that the spare tyre was sitting flush with the boot floor.

wow I've never seen a 6th gen with a full size spare like that. I figure for as seldom as a mini spare is used and even if it's used it's not for very long I think it's do-able. I would much rather have more trunk space than a stupid hump in the trunk.

You want to make it pro right? tongue.gif ...well, go to homedepot, get some thin durable wood (masonite is what I used), staples, carpet padding, and a 4x4 piece of wood. Then trace your carpet onto the wood, cut it, then staple the carpet padding to the bottom of your platform (to provide sound deadening). Then cut the 4x4 blocks of wood to the height you want the platform to stand up (i made them high enough to make my platform level with the rear seats)...(the blocks will brace the platform--you cannot just use the wheel to brace it)...and this is going stupid, but I secured the 4x4 blocks to the trunk bottom using caulk...mainly b/c it is not as harsh as glue or liquid nails, and it has held perfectly. then put it all together and waaaala! biggrin.gif

~snap

p.s. any questions?...just ask away tongue.gif

well dang i want a full size spare, cant even use the little one because my car is so low, it would be very bad trying to drive with that thing, and I since I'm making a new fiberglass sub box anyway the hump is no problem just make it go around.

ok .. i was thinking of doing 1 12" sub, but my main concern is the type of bass. I was told that 2 10" subs would be much more crisp and tight sounding as opposed to 1 12" sub. Could you tell me if this is true or not, or possibly explain the difference in bass quality.

Not true. Depends on the subwoofer, and more importantly the enclosure.

I custom made the enclosure from a program, bassbox 6 I think. I made a closed box with a resonace frequency of about 50hz I think. The bass is awsome! But it is a Rockford fosgate, very good brand. The salesman I spoke to said that what they sold most was 12". About 95% of what they sold of subs were 12". Well, my bass sounds great and I really care about good sound smile.gif

i asked the same question last summer when i was looking to buy a 6gc... i don't think it matters if it's a gt/st/gt-s...

i looked @ a gt-s and it had a full spare (bump) i now have a gt (usa) and it doesn't have a full spare... must've been an option/package thing back in the day? *shrugz*
