Have you tried talking to Jeff at Toyota World?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Not yet this is my last-ditch effort before going to him. I been looking for several months in every nook & crannie with no luck. Dealership is always a last resort.

I am sure you probably know this already but I am using the GT cables with my E-153 and now have no issues. My shifting issues came from worn motor mounts.

Have you dropped the entire engine out of the car to install the tranny? If not, you may want to try the GT cables first before you go to all the work of installing new cables.

GT cables are in there now, I am using spacers because the GT cables are too long and shifting is quite horrible.

You wouldnt happen to have a pic of your linkage would you? I'm wondering if I can just tweak what I have now and it'll work.

Nah not really. You gotta use that setup. I think its the fact that spacers of somesort are required and perhaps I just need to move them around. I put in a quote request from Jeff @ Toyotaworld/Champipon/Gulf Coast so I will await his word. In the meantime I will start to play with it.

Its ok to hijack - the cables dont fit snug, because theres some wiggle room between the U-clip and the bracket.

Are you talking about in the cockpit?

I'm going to throw out this question, how come, if the ST205 tranny is also labeled the E153 also, that we cant use the ST205 axles in the transmissions?

ST205 tranny is the E154 (ST185 is the E151).

GT shift cables should work fine... You just need a spacer to allow you to mount it to the stamped steel bracket bolted to the tranny instead of the aluminum bracket cast into the case of the S54 tranny...

I may have an extra set of ST205 cables leftover from my swap, but I won't know until I check if I need them for myself. smile.gif (and the motor isn't going back in the car for at least another month...)

I have the bracket from the ST185 tranny bolted to the MR2 tranny. I do have spacers, however, I dont believe the spacers are in the right position. Symptoms I'm having: neutral is way more forward than it should be, hard to find gears, hard shifting in general. I can move the levers with my hand w/no problem, leading me to believe that the slack in the cables is the cause of the problem.

If the spacer is allowing the clip to keep everything tight, you may just need to modify the braket... A simple cut and weld job. Have someone help you out. Put the lever in the right spot for each gear, then figure out how much each spot is off... Go to welding shop, have them modify it and you are done.

And probably only out $20. wink.gif
