I'm contemplating entering some of my photography into a local art gallery where they're having a juried photography exhibition, and I could use your guys' help to choose what photos to enter. I can enter a maximum of four photos, and I'm wondering what you guys would choose if you could only pick four of the following and why you'd pick those photos.

Thanks,
Christian Coomer

I'm interested in your plan on printing. I have always hated the way photos look great on the screen but printing is bad.

depends on printer man, i've seen some rediculous prints come off a Epson 2400 photo. And getting your monitor color matched is very important.

I have a Nikon D70, Olympus C4000Z, and a Canon Powershot A10. It's not the camera that makes for good shots though...Of the six photos I entered in the last competition, only one was taken with my older camera, and that one won best of class.

I always take my photos to this specific Photohaus in Yakima to get them printed...they always turn out awesome when printed there...kind of expensive, but I rarely get big prints printed. If I just need big ones to decorate my apartment walls or whatever, I go with Costco prints, because they're really cheap and look alright.

The Celica shot is photoshopped in the sense that it's two different exposures combined into one. And some of the photos have been adjusted for color, contrast, sharpness, etc. in Photoshop, but the light effects and such in the rest of the photos are the result of camera settings.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

reasons for not picking 6:

1) even though it looks really nice and you put a lot of hard work into it; The pictures looks too easy to take. Most people will think you just took the picture, but they dont know it requires the suction cup tripod and two images.

2) its too car specific, most people will just think, "its a car... and?"

what type of crowd of people are we dealing with? college students? old farts? artistic people? average joe?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Yeah, I think you're right. My mom was kind of confused when I showed her and told her it took 10 hours of work...she didn't realize it was moving at first. laugh.gif However, the exhibition is being judged by a single juror from Seattle who is a photographer, so I'm sure he'd realize that it wasn't an easy picture to take.

It is also car specific, and though there's no theme for the exhibition, I think you're right that most people would think that. What surprised me was that the Celica picture was the one that won best of class at the last exhibition/gallery I entered.

If I was a judge the 3 most important things are creativity, originality, and effort.

I like night shots, most of the photos I take are at night, so I am partial to the moving lights photos. Then again I try to be completely objective. The truck shot I like because its different.
