well about a week ago i hit another car. i was being stupid and not paying attention while in traffic and rolled into a 2002 white corolla while i was going about 5mph. it didnt do any damage to my car but it cracked the top of the corolla bumper on top about 3 inches long. so i said i didnt want to get it fixed through insurance because i dont want to deal with that. and she went and got an estimate and called me back and said it was going to cost $134 to replace the bumper. so i thought that was a great price and was happy. she called back today and said she made a mistake and its going to cost $586 now. now im depressed and mad. she wants to replace the bumper which costs $134 for the bumper and then the rest of the $586 for the painting and installation. that seems a little expensive to me. how much should a new bumper and paint cost?

a new bumper would be about $230 from the dealer then there's paint probably another $80 and labour at about $150.. i'm just estimating prices on how it would cost from the dealer.. total about ~$460..

so $586 is a little steep in my opinion..

sounds about right for a job done by the dealership. remember, you hit her, and messed up her car, so you really should pay her. just make sure she sends you a copy of the bill.

another thing to keep in mind, is that your deductable is probably 500$

I say you do it yourself for her. Buy the bumper, get it painted somewhere (100 bucks earl scheib or something) and install it yourself.

a new bumper normally goes for around 300bucks just for the part. then she might need a new crash bar, if thats damaged, not to mention paint, removing the old one and installing the new one.

most of us save lots of money by doing stuff like that on our own, but body shops charge for their time. just be happy she isisnt charging you for a rental car while hers is getting fixed.

i dont think she would go for that. if somone hit my car, i would refuse for them to buy, paint, or install anything on my car.

Well I'd try my best to convince the person I would just a good of a job or better... convince the hell out of her or pay the 500 bucks, it's up to you.

if somone hit me.... promised to pay, and than tried to convice me to let them do it. i would call my insurance company and just file the claim and let them deal with it.

im going to call some body shops up tomomorow and start getting some more estimates. but i think she would let me install the bumper myself. she is about 19-20 years old and has no idea what is going on, except from what her aunt is telling her. im basically communicating through her aunt and neither of them really know what they are doing.

i just wish i wouldnt have been stupid for 10 seconds. then all of this wouldnt have happened

im sorry, if someone hit MY car, there is NO way, i mean NO way, i would "let them fix it"
request a copy of the estimate, or request her to get another one.
like art said, if she went to a stealership, that repair cost sounds about right.

yah she got those. i would never screw someone like that. how would you feel if someone crashed into the back of your celica and just took off and you never heard from them again? you would probably go up to the GD thread and write an entire page on how much of an a**hole that person was and how much you want to cry etc. i screwed up (which doesnt happen often, but sometimes it does) so im going to pay for it. thats it

I think this topic is funny. You hit someone, man. You screwed up, and now you must pay. If she asked for $1000 and didn't get the insurance company involved, you should be happy. Someone hit my car about a month after I painted it last summer. They took off, but I only got $150 to fix it. It would diffinately cost more if I paid someone else, but I'll just do it myself and probably break even. Oh, I'll probably do better, but it's still going to take time. If someone hit yourcar, you have the right to take it were ever you want to fix it. What if someone hit you and said, "I'm not paying that price, just take it to Maco." That would make me mad. My advice, suck it up, pay whatever she asks, and don't hit anyone anymore.

just pay her and get it over with. the sooner you put this behind you, the better you'll feel about it all.

oh and if shes hott, maybe ask her out on a date? haaa!
