Well I have come to the conclusion that the synchro is shot for third gear. I can still drive it but would like to develop a plan for how I will fix this: I would like some ideas or good places to hunt for a used 5 speed trans.
First I plan on trying synchromesh oil first but I doubt that will fix the problem so......It is a 94 gt 2.2 liter 5 speed celica.....

-1st idea replace only 3rd gear synchro, problem looks too complicated to do myself, but I have rebuilt an chyrsler 727 automatic trans with success so who knows???? *?What would a shop charge to do this if I pulled the trans myself???

-2nd idea get a used 5 speed trans. with low miles on it.. This can't be all that easy to find.
Where would one look for this??? Any good junkyards to call??? I am worried that someone will claim it
is low miles and I'll put it in only to have the same problem.... So I'd like a guarantee that its in good shape
or something like a warranty... Any ideas what one is worth???

-3rd idea is what different vehicles have the same transmission as the 94 gt celica 2.2 liter. That way I can ask the junkyards for a few different vehicles and improve my chances of finding a good one. Also I just installed a brand new centerforce clutch so I don't want to have to use a different clutch setup....

THanks....

its not that hard to replace a synchro. you do need a few special tools and a press to take off the gears. you're not having any problems going into any other gears?

drain and refil the trans oil, check the old oil for lots of gold flakes which would be the brass from your synchro's

It'll probably be cheaper to just replace the synchro thats bad. First try the synchromesh, then if that doesnt help then try a new synchro and see if its any better.

If you ever need a tranny, motor, etc......the best place to look for parts is www.car-part.com.
