Every time i post somthing about my ST people pick me apart about it, people are always saying that the ST is so slow, and they act like theres nothing you can do to make it fast. its not the fastest car in the world but neither is your 3sgte swap celica! i posted earlier in a forum about track times and posted that my ST can run a 16.1 1/4 @86mph and NOBODY believed it. they kept saying that a stock ST couldn't ever run a 16 sec. 1/4,, well mine ISN'T STOCK!! is there anybody out there that believes me,, this is a celica club, you guys should be happy when you hear of someone that has put together a decently fast ST! not pick them apart.

This doesnt mean that they speak for the entire 6gc community. Just b/c somebody might have given you a ignorant comment about an ST doesnt mean everybody on this site thinks that. the person that replied to your comment clearly didnt know you had anything done to your car. you could easily pm him and tell him what you did to your car instead of making this post |

who was it that picked on you? i think i remeber some GT owners saying they had a hard time running low 16s in their cars, and thats why they didnt think yours had done it.

nice car! my STX coupe ran a 16.9 with short ram, 2.5 manifold-back exauhst, and timing advance on my old heavy 18's.
I personally like the St's 7a more than the 5s for racing. |

It was more than one person,, and i did tell them it wasn't stock and to read my profile, and every one on that post kept puting me down about it. they ended up deleting anything else i would post on that forum! Im not trying to cause any trouble or anything, i just want to see if anybody believes me or supports me with my celica, cause so far only a few do, and i greatly apprieciate those that do!

no offense man but why do u care what these people think? If u ran 16 seconds, then u ran 16 seconds and u should be proud. too many people in here care too much what others think of them.

i have not seen any one on this site be directly rude, and make fun of any car because it is an st. i have one and i know that they arent fast, people call them slow because they are, but if you put some cash into it you can have a nice little track car. look at nik he is gonna have a ton of power through his 7agte.

well, to answer your header on this thread...
It is b/c st's are slow. period. Even the gt is slow, but the st is slower than the slow gt. Even with performance mods (minimal like you have), the st's/gt's will still be slow. Nice track time, and sorry for some of the guys here that say stupid stuff. ~snap -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

I have a ST and dont get bashed for it. St's are very slow, but who cares... I didn't buy it because I thought it was fast. One day it might be a lil speed demon but until then, I dont care. I also agree in the fact that if it's real to you, no one else cares. Don't let ignorance get to you

The only reason I'd have a problem believeing it is because you took a mid 17 to mid 18 second car and shaved 1.5-2.5 seconds off it's quarter mile (without forced induction); and to me that's like saying you could take a 5S, keep it N/A, and mod it to break 15 seconds in the quarter.
But I'll give you the benfit of the doubt. Lets see some time slips. |

I feel you 100%. I posted only this site awhile back and got flamed about the ST being TOO slow. I'm like "Duh, I have to drive one everyday!" It was like members were so into calling my car slow that they didn't even post anything relevant to my topic. However, not everyone on this site are ST bashers though. And its not so that ST owners care what others think, its more about, "Hey I'm on a 6g Celica site and they are not supporting the way they should. They're not saying " Hey Nate. You can do this and this to make your car a honda killer." If I wanted to be reminded of how slow my car was I would go on a honda or mustang site and talk to those guys. Like it was once said, if you don't like the post or have something positive to say then don't post.

2nd gear up to 55mph and 3rd gear up to 80 my gears- 2nd gear up to 60mph and 3rd gear up to 86mph can any body explain to me why this is? |

Surely not on this post. You nor anyone else can deny the fact that Celica ST's are sorely looked upon. The point I want to make is PLEASE stop telling people there car is slow. It could be fast to them. They might even agree that it is slow. But what is mildly amusing is the fact that when some posts a track time(at least that I've seen) people with more experince don't offer advice on how to go faster. Like in dudes case. If you guys think his time is slow or not believe then dismiss the thought of posting that comment and offer advice on how he can achieve or exceed that time. |

i dont think thats the case, because when i got my rims and tires put on i had a friend of mine drive beside me and tell me how fast he was going and we were going the same speed. i got the rims and tires to be as close to the stock size as i possibly could. also it was like that before i got rims and tires.

eventually my car will have everything a gt has and more (3sgte) but id still rather have a gt than an st.
every time i look at the back of my car and see the lack of the gt badge a part of me dies on the inside, even with a 3sgte under the hood. |

i mean, the st will be lighter so it will be faster, but when you have the same motor, the difference is negligible.
not to mention i dont know many ST owners with a 3sgte that will keep the stock rear breaks, which is one of the main differences between the two cars. the rest is small things like the light around the keyring, rear windshield whiper, fog lights in later years, etc. |

This topic is a borderline troll... It does not matter which motor you have, they're both slow and in the same neighborhood in terms of power.
You may as well argue which car is more of a sports car - a Camry, or a Corolla... The answer is : neither. Obviously a 5s is a bit more beefier, however, it would take the same amount of work on either the 5s or the 7a to make it produce competent amounts of HP. For the GT owners, I wouldn't go around justifying paying a few grand more for a GT badge and like 20-30 more horses / torque. That's pretty much the biggest difference between the ST/GT, besides some dealer options. |

on the contrary, id be willing to say that the power is the least important option of the st vs gt choice.
the gt is just a nicer car overall, each of those "little dealer options" goes a long way when combined to create a more comfortable car. sitting in an st and sitting in a gt might still be sitting in two celicas, but its definitly not the same to me, and ive sat in both. |

QUOTE he was saying the "small dealer options" mean nothing Yes, I did, and so far, you've mentioned a light around the keyring making the GT "better in every way" than the ST? QUOTE and im sorry, i just cannot take a car seriously if it has rear drums, its kind of like a girl with one boob wanting to be a porn star. were not saying the st is a bad car, just that the gt is better in every single way. And I cant take someone seriously who believes that : 20 horsepower & torque rear disc brakes in a car with less than 130hp a light around the keyring rear windshield wiper and fog lights in later years is a huge leap from an ST. I've been a member of this site since it was created, and was on celica.net, so i've heard a lot. And i've seen this ST vs GT debate talked in to the ground, the bottom line is - it matters not what you get, it's the Celica part that counts. its just my opinion ok, i am picky about my cars, did an extra 2 days labor on my car just to have stock power windows and door locks. and my doors are black while my car is red. id rather deal with that untill i can get a paint job than roll my windows down.
things like rear drums, manual windows, etc, make buying a newer car pointless, if i wanted no luxury options, id go classic car restoration, or be a honda boy. the reason why i love the gt so much is that it looks great, and bone stock has every option youd ever need in a car. im picky and neurotic about the GT vs the ST, no one is going to agree with me, and im fine with that, im just voicing how i feel |

People like you obviously forget that, and decide to make witless comments about something you know little to nothing about. Learn the differences between the two models before you decide to slop text on this forum, it might make you not look so bad in the future. i know the differences dude, i know that sts have door reflectors in the bottom of the panel rather than open door lights, i know that the st does not have the light around the keyring, i know that the st was offered with manual windows and manual locks, and when you have these, your mirror controls are in the center of the dash next to the cigarette lighter and your door panels are different. there is no ST badge, cars without a passenger side badge on the back are ST or debadged. i know that the front brakes on the st are smaller than the gt (by a small amount but still smaller) i know that the ST's power steering resevoir is on the pump and not on the side of the car, i know that on the st the rear windshield whiper is not standard and i know that the ST stock steelies are 14" while the GT stock steelies (not the alloys) are 15". oh and after all of that, the 5sfe is still more powerful, and it might not be a substantial amount of horsepower, but if you have driven both you should know that the ass dyno definitly registers the difference. Anyways, you're picking at straws with the differences, but whatever, it's your opinion, do not confuse that with fact and tell people things that arent true. ST or GT, your still drive basically the same car. |

Okay. This $hit is not that serious. Maybe Lagos was right. Now it seems that we have ST owners bashing ST owners!!! I think in terms of performance then it doen't matter if you have a GT or ST. Not TOO much. Luxury wise the GT is better but only if you don't have an ST with the extras. Dustin thank you very much for your GT4 comment. I never thought of it that way. Anyhow, lets just be happy we own a 6g because most people don't have the LUXURY to even buy an ST. Get it, luxury.

OK this is getting dumb guys....
I have a 95 ST and a 95 GT. all of the "little things" the ST doesn't have that the GT does can be added to the ST easily. The ST was made to be an economical vehicle - less hp, less standard options, getter mileage. The GT is the "sports" model with most of the standard options and hp. My ST and my GT have all of the options available for 1995 BTW. if you are upset that your ST is slow or doesn't have options or whatever, either buy a GT or upgrade your ST. It is as simple as that. for the record, I like driving my ST (w/header) better than my GT (stock)...why ? here we go... the responce from my ST is better than the GT, my ST cloth seats are more comfy than my GT leather, my ST is quieter than my GT. I know my RPM band better in my ST, I know exactly what it can do and what I can do with it. The GT seems to me to rev too high... when it is all said and done, just relax and drive your car. edit: both have all options available except A/T ![]() This post has been edited by Batman722: Mar 26, 2006 - 5:57 PM -------------------- |

I'll probably get flamed to hell and back for this, but generally drum brakes stop harder than disc brakes. The whole point of disc brakes is to effectively distribute fricition more evenly so theoretically, if you were going to ram your car around on a road course, you wouldn't suffer brake fade as quickly. But on cars with as little horsepower as ours, it's really just a silly gimmick. |

And if anything, having your gears max out at a higher mph would have a detrimental effect. Shorter gears are better for acceleration; hence the whole point of six speed transmissions. |

What the hell, I'll throw in my .02 dollars too.
I would like to start by saying... our cars are some of the slowest sport compact cars on the market. For the size, our cars are significantly heavier (I think a honda civic four door is still a couple hundred lbs lighter). Aftermarket parts are more readily available for MANY other cars - and are compairitively rare for ours. Furthermore, there's only one or two engines worth upgrading to, and there's not many aftermarket parts for those either. If you're trying to build a car for racing, there's certainly better chassis to start with. That said - I love my ST. It's a daily driver with well over 200k miles on it and counting. Our cars were built for comfortable daily driving, with a little added spunk and superior styling. The power curve in the ST was built for the road, not the track - it does what it was built to do VERY well. Because other cars get all their power in the high RPM range, I'm constantly shifting to accelerate or go uphill. Not in my ST. She's right at home humming allong at 2-3000RPM. She's well planted - even in the worst of weather conditions, and she feels light on her feet. I slide into the cockpit of my little ST and EVRYTHING I need is within arm reach. I don't need to lean over to reach my sterio / heater / AC. The egronomics are SO superior to anything in it's price range. And, my car may be 10+ years old, but the styling is still great... unlike some other cars built 10+ years ago. Dear ST, You're not the fastet car on the road, but I still love you. ~J~ |

I really dont get why people bash on the ST also... I mean the GT aint much better... Oooh 5 more hsp big friggen whoop... Oooh more power options in the interior big deal... But whatever... wow....this is the biggest non-sense on the boards....
who cares if you have an ST or a GT or a swap its a celica for goodness sakes... we're all slow relative to other cars and there are other cars slower then us....this arguement is retarded end of story basically this just sounds like your running in the special olympics....even if someone wins this...your still retarded... BTW if you want someone to stupid believe you about a 16.1 sec run in an ST with "performance modifications" (sorry plugs and wires don't count) all i see is you have an exhaust...your "performance chip" was some ebay thing from what i can tell...which = some resistor that does nothing but waste fuel...SOOOOO if you want someone to believe you PROVE IT and POST A TIME SLIP...you get one at the end of each run.... i doubt your run...so please post up a time slip cause i'd be interested in it actaully happening since i've been to the track on..light weight 14s, completely STRIPPED interior, full exhaust, cold air intake and short shifter(if you can call this "performance") i ran a 17.3 consistant soo i'm interested and please post up a slip of proof... |

well, i'll add my opinion to this silliness. i've had 7 celicas. (4 current in bold) an 85 gt-s, an 86 st, an 88 gt-s, an 88 alltrac, a 90 gt, a 90 alltrac, and a 94 st. all 5-speeds. now, in my opinion they've all been rather slow. the quickest one i've had was the 88 alltrac at 10-11psi. the 85 gt-s was piggish cuz it needed worked on and was too heavy, the 86 was rather slow but fun as heck(mock the 2se if you wish but it has decent torque, and the st was very light), the 88 gt-s was slow i think something's wrong with it to be so extremely slow (or maybe the 3sge is just that in need of torque), the 90 gt was quicker but the weight gain compared to the 4th generation was noticeable and made it less fun to me than my 86 st. the 90 alltrac is mostly stock so pretty slow and the weight is terrible. so now we come to the 94 st. basically ever since i bought it i thought maybe something was wrong with it because it seemed so slow. but there's not. it's quick enough for regular driving, and you can have fun once you get up to speed and take it through the corners fast with it's nice handling...but in terms of acceleration, i might be able to outrun it on foot ![]() all things considered, if i compare the 90 gt to my 94 st (since the 90 had the 5sfe) i'd say the difference would be small enough that it's absolutely pointless to be bickering about one 6th gen being so much slower than the other...unless you've got a st205, or a 3sgte swap. and even then...a celica is a celica. love em all. except the automatics ![]() ![]() -------------------- -1994 celica st 5-speed- stock (sold)

haha, this is all pretty interesting to read. anywho... imo, gt's aren't all that better than st's. so what if i don't have a gt badge or stock skirts or 15 extra hp or rear brake calipers or 1 inch bigger rims. did i miss anything? i changed my rims and debadged my car. so besides the rear brake drum, a gt driver could drive my car and not know the difference. now with that said... our cars are sexy no matter what.
