Hi, does anyone know of any issues trying to swap a mr2 turbo engine into the st202 SS-III, any issue with using the SS-III's gearbox? The engine in question is a rev 1 mr2 turbo engine, i think these have tvis, would that be ok as long as i use the correct ecu?
Thanks. This post has been edited by Edophus: Apr 23, 2006 - 2:39 PM |

Its even a better solution because the SS-III will have a LSD stock, So you will be able to get the power better on the road. To problems you face are more concerned with the fact that the 3s-gte comes from a MR2.
Some stuff are on the wrong side of the engine. 2 examples: Alternator is on the wrong side (back side) so you need a custom bracket Oil level check (dont know correct english word) is on the wrong side. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

I'd be better off then trying to find an st185 engine maybe? |

Yeah, it easier with a ST185 engine.
But why do you want to do this. You already have a 200hp engine in the car. Why swap it for a engine with about 10 hp more? OMG it just remembered that someone also asked the same question to me ![]() This post has been edited by Kadett: Apr 23, 2006 - 3:05 PM -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

mostly because getting further power from the 3s-gte is a peice of cake compared to the beams, I intend to track the car, and will have the beams to fall back on, alternativly i could probably sell it to cover the cost of the conversion and have change. I'm aiming for about 240-260bhp, getting that out of the beams would easily cost twice as much.

I'm guessing it should be easy enough to find a wiring diagram for the st185 ecu, but what about the beams ecu, anyone point me to a wiring diagram for it?

Many people would dream about having that engine
in their engine bay. If you do want to do the engine conversion, definiately sell it so you can cover the cost of the conversion, thats of course if you are already loaded ![]() -------------------- ![]() 98 ST204 ZR - Black Beauty - Roaming the streets of Sydney 73 TA22 LT - Tiffany Blue - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 75 TA22 LT - Snow White - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 77 RA28 LT - Flubber Green - Mint Classic Weekend Cruiser 94 MX-5 NA8 Clubman - Red Racer - Looking for corners WIP Project: 69 RT40 Corona, 2nd WIP Project: 66 RT40 1600s Corona 86 Corona RT142 - Daily Driver 6GC 4 Life Baby!!! |

Buy an ST205 clip - you can sell the tranny to an ST185 guy for some nice cash (probably 1/3 the price of the clip) and then you'd have everything else you need to convert your car. Your tranny/axles/etc. can stay the same. The 3s-gte will bolt up like stock.

is there any issue with an st185 engine? i obviously would prefer an st205 front clip but funds are going to be a big factor so i dunno if could stretch to that.

QUOTE(Edophus @ Apr 23, 2006 - 3:08 PM) I intend to track the car, Then stick with the n/a engine. The $ you'll have to spend getting the 3SGTE up to spec and in the car could easily go towards some decent upgrades for the BEAMS. Plus you'll have no torque steer issues, much less problems with traction and something that is potentially more reliable. I'm ditching a 2.0 turbo motor in favour of a 3SGE in my FWD tarmac rally car because it makes more sense. And I'm willing to bet with 230bhp on tap, that it'll eat a lot of other FWD turbo cars ![]() People tend to become fixated by the word 'turbo' - thinking that is the answer to everything. Got the engine today, havent had a decent look at it yet as its still all wrapped up, but it does come complete with everything, ecu, loom, relays the lot, even the clutch, all for £340 delivered, or about $630. now to look for a manifold/turbo/downpipe/exhaust.
