1) the sti is not in the same price range as the GTI
2) that ad is horribly worded, good concept, bad execution, it sounds like an immigrant who barely knew english wrote that.

ya it was a good ad, but you cant compete with the "VEE DUB IN DA HOUUUSE" one of the best commercials i've seen in a while. And about the horrible wording, the only problem was "its whats makes a subaru, a subaru"

the thing about STI's and EVO's is that they are generally ugly. Sure, you can dress them up, but polishing a turd only goes so far. If I am going to buy a $30,000+ sports car, it won't look like a boxy sedan.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

depends on the problem you go in for

luckily, the STI's dont break tranny's. the wrx's on the other hand(especially 02-03) do it quite frequently and the dealers don't like to warranty them. they also blame transmission problems on simple mods like BOV and exhaust

i agree. the cars are ugly, however, most of my time is spent driving the car, not looking at it. as long as im happy with the way the car performs, i'll put up with the fact that it is ugly.

and yes, i drive a wrx, and i am perfectly ok with its ugliness

the JDM evo's have active yaw control. very nice feature, but the usdm evo's dont get that.

other than that feature, there is no other feature that the evo has that is hidden. and again, we dont get that here in the US.

the evo handles better, responds to mods better, and is cheaper to mod than an STI. aside from the weaker transmission, the EVO is definately the better performing car.

also, Jeremy1210, have you been inside an evo? the interior is absolute crap. looks cheap, feels cheap, is cheap.

my friends evo9 has 4k miles on it, by time he had 2k miles on it, it was already rattling everywhere.

the sti interior is way better. the gauges are awesome(unlike the bland evo gauges) and the blue seats and carpet really set the STI apart from the lower model WRX's. the evo looks like a plain old lancer on the inside. the build quality of the STI interior is way better than the EVO

Yeah I sat in the EVO at the NAIAS and I thought it was better looking inside than the STI. The STI seemed like it shared the same parts with Hyundai. It was not attractive and the seats weren't that comfy. My buddy thought the same. I guess its personal prefernece, but for 30k I'd want stuff that wasn't all plastic, not saying the EVO was much better

i think thats what i was talking about, i watched the guy outrun a lambo murch. on a track, stock evo, stock lambo, the evo ended up pushing the professional driver to hard from behind and the lambo spun out, proved the evo can hang with the $$ cars, it stayed behind it and gained on it in the turns, my dream car is an evo 5 or 3, so ever since then i loved them, sti's are great but i jus watched a turbo sohc civic.. with jus upgraded fuel stay neck and neck with my friends 06 sti.. got clocked at 140 by a state trooper haha luckily my friend knew the cop..

Yes, that was Top Gear, and it wasn't a stock EVO, it was a specially modified one they sell in the UK.

the FQ400 is a pretuned factory evo that comes with 400 AWHP. The subi guys are working out a deal with a few dealerships to have the same bundle, some guy named david burshcar is doing it.

it wont, since there isnt an r32 anymore, there upgrading to a 3.3 liter engine, so its the R33 :-p

oh btw the 07' STI LE will also have a sunroof, which is very gangster.

HAhaha.....that ad cracked me up. I love the VW commercials, but thats a slap in the face. lol.

I love Subaru WRX/STi. My buddy and I have been working on his '02 and after a few light mods that thing is really quick. Very strong motor....you just have to love the flat four EJ20 they put in those, its designed for being driven hard and managing itself well, and just sounds amazing too. smile.gif Before my friend got his WRX I always thought that EVO was superior, but Subaru builds those things like tanks and its much more well built than its rival.

A few issues back in Sport Compact Car they had a write-up on the plant in Japan that kicks out the EVo's and its literally the same assembly line that kicks out budget-priced Lancer and Outlander SUV, all of which share the same unibody chassis. Only difference other than powertrain is the extra stitch welds they use to reinforce it all in the EVO platform. But still, it really is just an economy car with a fancy engine, suspension and nicer body parts.
