i have given up trying to salvage my passenger side fog lamp (cracked housing, water damage, rust) after much frustration trying to find a "mirror finish" paint. either i have a hard time communicating what a mirror or high chrome finish is, or people do not have a clue what they are talking about and just want my money in their cash register. i bought no less than 5 different rattle cans with the assurance that "it does dry to a mirror finish, not metallic silver". fool me once --shame on you...fool me that many times, i must be a fuggin' idiot.

since i got no satisfaction from the paint, i thought i would convert the useless foglamps into some show-off lights and install some after-market fogs. i broke the first set (don't ask!?!?) and couldn't come up with a decent way to mount the second set so i gave up. did some research on the Web and placed an order with DiscountToyotaParts.com in Texas. I am now patiently waiting the delivery of 2 new reflector assemblies. the local Toyota dealer wanted 242.00 CDN$ each and would not order the lens assembly separate from the rest (bracket, bulb housing, etc). i paid 148.60 US$ for both + 35 US$ for shipping.

where does the rice come into this story? right here :

i had already wired the first set of after-market fog (the broken ones) so i had this cool lit switch and relay just waiting to turn something on. i found these at Princess Auto for 9.99$ each.

i thought i must be losing my mind when i first turned them on-- what will the 6gc community think? is it too rice? do blue and orange compliment each other??? you know what? they kinda grow on you-- i actually like them. i may even paint the surrounding area metallic silver (i seem to have plenty in the workshop for some reason) to enhance the glow. maybe some mesh grille?

IDK...rice is nice in moderation i guess, just like everything else...including moderation.

love me, hate me, flame me, praise me...just don't ignore me

try mounting the neons to the underside of the crash bar.. this way you wont see the bulb and it will glow up the middle hole of the bumper. Thats what i did with my UB light in front.

just make sure you check with local and federal laws...in the US any color other than clear, amber/orange up front is not legal (red, blue, green ect are for emergency vehicles ONLY)

you really can't see them unless you're within 6 feet of the car and standing upright. i like the bare bulb. besides everyone of us knows that they are "for off road and track use only" like it says on the packaging wink.gif (right!)

thanks for the heads-up Batman thumbsup.gif . another example of what makes 6gc.net a community-- helping, cautioning and caring (o.k. maybe that's going too far?) for our members. i know i shouldn't run them in the street (but i do). i am also a mature (?) adult who knows i am responsible for my actions and i am ready to deal with the consequences of those actions.

Cold Cathodes are Cold Cathodes, Neons are Neons. One isn't the other.

Sorry to be pedantic, but some people don't realise this.

Blue coloured lights are always alot brighter than other colours, but I have found that when I was taking pictures of my rear red led clusters with them lit, there is no way you can take a picture directly without the camera making them alot brighter than they actually are.

So I would say that they probably will be very bright to view directly but the camera would have made them more bright than your eye would view them.
