I don;t own an iPod myself, but try the Griffin iTrip. I think it's banned in the UK, but fine everywhere else.

It plugs into the top of the iPod, and then transmits over an FM frequency. Then you just tune your radio in and Viola!

Well you have a couple of options here

A) Buy an alpine/other ipod headset stereo + ipod ready kit.... looking at about $300/400 CDN
B) Buy the RCA cables for the audio, and a car ipod charger for the power
C) dont power it, just RCA cables
D) itrip (yuck)
E) Search for the cable which plugs into the dock and has RCA out and plugs into your sigarette adapter... i think its available through Ebay, but i dont have an account

Right now im using option C, but i have a 60 gB ipod with a decent battery life. Also ill soon be putting an alpine system in, which i like because i can control my ipod through the headset smile.gif

I have stock stereo right now >.>

what do you think of the jensen stereo? It's cheap but decent atm. I would hit the expensive stuff but as a college student, cash is rare tongue.gif for now.

I wouldn't want my high quality iPod digital quality music turned into FM radio quality.....

But then again, I have a stock system... does it really make a difference?

I'd recommand going to Radio Shack and buy a headphone=>cassette adapter.

Try looking for a panasonic headunit.. their ipod adapter is only 50 bucks. Try looking on cardomain.com they have some of the cheapest prices i have seen.

Here is the cheapest unit they have on cardomain that will allow an interface unit. http://www.cardomain.com/item/PANCQC3303U

Then add the accessory of the ipod interface unit only 45 bucks! this is the setup i have in my car but with a better stereo. Awesome sound quality and the ipod charges off of the headunit.

Well here's my lil story:
About 7 month ago I bought Olympus Mrobe 5gig Mp3 player from RadioShack for $99+tax+12month warranty($17.99). So yesterday I went to one of my local RadioShack's and asked them to repair my Mp3 player because the battery is always low and keys dont work well (for real there was nothing wront with the player I just wanted to get some kind of replacement, well at least I hoped to get something else). So I came there and they gave me a replacement, Ipod Nano 4gig MSRP:$249.99. smile.gif
Well I do like it alot, its really small and nice, but I heard that its easy to scratch, thats why I got a plastic cover + case for it so its fully protected. Overall this is the best Mp3 player I've ever had, and I had about 5 different once in last 14month.

I had an itrip... i didn't like it, the sound quality was absolute crap. i guess it depends on how big the city or town your in or by is. the bigger it is, the harder it will be for your itrip to get an empty station that will actually work without a bunch of static. atleast that's how mine was, i could've had a poorly made one.

The itrip is good, but go with a station, because i ended up getting the power adapter afterwards and spent more!

now with the itrip there is a mod that you can do..well acutally jus topen it and pull the att. out and bam...you can broadcast of any station. even cars around you! now hook it up to an cb attenna and maybe an amp, those annoying poeple blasting some station you can override them!

#1-If you want high quality, the iTrip won't work. I've got an iTrip and it works great for spoken work (radio dramas for me mainly.) but I wouldn't reccommend it for the music.

#2- If you have an aftermarket deck with changer control, you should be able to plug RCA cables into the back. You will get the highest quality audio out of this. My bro's got an ipod car charger that plugs into the bottom, and it has a jack on there which you can use for the rca connection (this one, since it is off of the bottom of the ipod instead of the headphone jack will give you a better connection.) Run the RCA cable under the carpet and have it come up from underneath the seat, or another place for a sleek look.

#3- The third option is a deck specifically designed to work with an iPod that integrate the id3 tag displaying on the deck, and control of the iPod through the deck. This is the best quality, as well as the coolest, but it is a very "one trick pony" kinda options. If you're iPod dies, or if you lose it, or something like that, the ability you probably paid at least $100 or more for becomes useless. I'm not sure what decks do this these days.

I would recommend #2, but if you don't have a deck with changer control, and you have no $$$ for one, then the iTrip or a cassette connector is your best bet. (Casette conectors are good if you have a casette deck, but the downside is they have a tendency to wear out the motors in the cassette player if used regulary. I've broken two casette motors in my old volvo 240 when I used a casette adapter- I can't afford to replace the deck again, hence I switched to an iTrip.)

I just switched from car fi to computers at best buy yesterday, but here is the breakdown in quality from worst to best.
FM Transmitter
RCA
Cable (can be done with newer decks, but the cable costs 30 for alpine and about 100 from pioneer and kenwood)

Personaly I say go with the cable because, it charges your ipod, better quality, and also you can control the ipod through the deck. Its pricey (entry decks with the ability are 130), but if you care about the quality at all that is the way to go.

i've got a 15gb, i use the monster charger and a tape adapter, sound quality is pretty good...actually pretty damn good!!!

Don't go cheap on a charger if youre gonna get one tho...i did that and it only lasted like a month at the most. I've had the monster one for over a year with no problems.

One quick and easy way to figure out what your best options are for your car and budget is to look at Crutchfield.com; they have a GREAT selection of stuff from head units with iPod interfaces (that charge your iPod and allow you to control your iPod through the head unit) to FM transmitters. I have an iPod and started out using a roughly $50 setup I picked up at Frye's (outpost.com); it was okay but the sound quality really wasn't that great. When I got the Celica, it came with a head unit with 2 aux jacks (Panasonic, made about 6 months before they made the iPod adapter ones). I use one jack for my Sirius tuner and the other for my iPod, and the quality is WAY better than the FM tuner. I'd definitely go for the new head unit if you can. You can probably pick one up off eBay for about $150.

i got an i-pod nano and i just put it up in my cell phone holder, went out and spent $35 for the upgrade for my Blapunkt headunit to get RCA's in, bought a set of RCA cabels with a headphone jack built in on the other end, cut a hole in the little tray beside the cig lighter, and just pull the cord out when i need to and put it back in. Sounds great, cost me $50 for every thing i needed to hook up.

I have a Kenwood Excelon deck, with the ipod cable ($30). The one thing I don't like is that its kinda laggy through the deck. It's easier for me to unplug the ipod, pick a different artist/playlist and plug it back in. I think alpine has the full speed navigation stuff.
