Word, I bet it'll make that motor feel nice. Good luck, and post plenty of pics and driving evaluations.

If you combine all the time that I have been under my ST trying to get it to fit right it would be about that long. What didn't work? My manifold was rusted to the first cat and the cat was rusted to the down pipe.

the pain was the downpipe bolts, once decided not to come off and get stripped, luckily i have a the bolt out from craftsman. but i didnt have a 1/2 extension. so missing a few sockets and asking neighbors for em and then i had to drill a 1/2" into the downpipe to make the new 1/2" bolts fit. working in a carport, dark, using a flashlight, burning my fingers, cuttin my arms, good times.

yes it has 2 o2 sensors spots...the seller claims you can cap off the bottom one. but i used my stock sensors. drove around, makes the car louder and quick off the line...does anyone else with a exhaust, when they turn on the a/c at idle that the car shakes a lil.

yes...we now can get headers for 5sfe biggrin.gif ...the material used to make the header doesn't look too strong though frown.gif ...i have mines for prob a month now and it seems to be okay...i noticed you have to sorta break in the headers or somthing because when i first got the headers on there were jus a slight difference(and yes i've reset my ecu) and now it's pretty good....heres the site for the headers(don't have to get it off ebay...)

looks good lew!
just a tip for you guys who buy and install these.
before you start the car for the first time, wipe down all the header pipes really well, and get all the oils from your hands off of them.
once they heat cycle a few times, theyll turn a nice golden color without getting all crappy looking from all the finger prints.=)

update on the header, the vroom vroom is gone but not sure if its because the O2 sensor was bad or what, update tomorrow since i put a new one in...the chrome was gone after a week, probably paint it in the future, not a concern at the moment.

got it today, took 40 minutes or so to put on. start at the top of one side, go down then cross onto another side and keep going down. in the end i had to wrap 2 together. pic will be on later....

well i drove around the block and it started to smoke, so i had to pull over and take it off, does header wrap normally smoke up a storm then die off?

i'd have let it smoke off in the driveway, and no i dont know if smoke is normal.

whenever i do anything to my exhaust i start it up with the hood open and let any smoke thats gonna happen just happen there while im watching it.

ya after driving it longer, it started to smoke up a little more, now it still smells...once you hit 60+ the speed stays close to 60 and slowly drops not like before

i wouldn't wrap a daily driver

i need to keep the heat out of my engine bay before i ruin the paint on my hood! wrapping down the runners to the downpipe seems like a good way to do that.

lew, im still not clear...it feels faster wrapped? what did you mean by the 60mph stuff? how did wrapping change the sound?

What's so bad about wrapping headers? Please explain what "bad stuff can happen". You can't just say something is bad without backing up your statement. I never heard of race cars going through engines daily.... that sounds rediculous.

Header wrap can trap moisture in the material, leading to premature failure of the header. That's pretty much why a lot of people will advise you stay away from it. They also trap heat in the headers which can be a bad thing.

the joke was on bitter, he failed to read lew's color description of the header wrap, not to lew if that came across your mind. To answer your question, formula atlantic replaces/rebuilds their N/A 4age after each race, because of the high compression and maintaining high revs to power the N/A 4age, it could go boom if things dont get replaced. Here's a link to why i wouldn't put heat wraps on headers, i thought you guys knew about heat wraps already, apparently i was wrong

i dont trust a vendor site for good information, other than stoptech and maybe one or two others.

i'm going to wrap mine, then put the silicone spray on the wrap to seal it. i have to keep that heat out of the engine bay somehow, before it ruins the paint on the hood!

It can cause some premature fading regardless... but that's inconsequential. It depends whether or not you like 'bling' under your hood... but if you went with wrap... chances are that doesn't matter. I'm not a big fan of wrap either... but each to his own. Nice to know somebody finally mustered the balls to try out one of the ebay mystery 5SFE headers. Wasn't it only a little while ago everyone was convinced they cannot fit?

frown.gif i dont have one of those insulative mats under my hood, theres not even holes for the pushpins to hold one into place, and all the emissions stickers are under where one should be. its never had one! what would i put under there? i mean after just a couple miles of slow (less than 45mph) driving my hand can be burned by the hood!

someone tells me to show proof that wrapping headers can be harmful, i show proof, and then gets flamed because it is only from "one website"?? just google it man

bitter, a good quality high temperature paint job on that hood could be useful man! after all, our cars are like 100 million yrs old or something so just repaint that sh8, peace!

yea, i suppose some refractive or reflective paint on the underside of the hood could help keep my newer paint safe, the car was repainted about 1.5 years ago btw.

wow this header wrap thing is getting rediculous......ok if you have wrap on then how will the paint on the hood get hot? the wrap is insulating the heat into the header..therefore the heat stays in the header and doesnt disipate out to the hood. even IF it gets hot with the wrap...headers glow red and paint stays on. another thing its' a daily driver so its not like he will be having an amazing amount of heat going through them..like the nascar example in that link..you're comparing cars that have 600 hp, go 200mph for HOURS at a time.. Lew is gonna drive to work and MIGHT get up to 80 for a few seconds...drive for a few minutes...sit at red lights and stop signs idleing...NOT that hot

Lew if you want wrap do it..they are comparing RACE cars to a daily driven celica

the original paint on my hood was heat checked and cracked, so yes i'm worried about this.

i cruise at 80mph weekly and take my car on long (10+hour) trips a few times a year. i'll drive at 80 for 5-6 hours at a time. just a short trip (about 2-3 miles at 45mph) and my hood is too hot to touch! if you spit on the top of it, it will steam off in a few seconds.

pop the hood and put your hand 6 inches from the header at idle, and you'll want to pull it away in about 30 seconds, its hot enough for me to cook a hotdog over laugh.gif

my header doesnt get redhot, i doubt the egt's are that high. stock turbo'd cars have generous heat sheilding and insulation to keep the paint on the hood safe.

if i had that mat material under the hood, i doubt it would get that hot.

thats the EXACT same as is on my car, except mine cost $100 shipped off ebay. it looks like they changed a hanger for the celica, i wonder if they have different B pipes for the corolla/celica?

the ebay is stainless, not chrome, and the flex section is leaky as heck! other than that its not bad.

I also decided after seeing in person the poor results of the header paint from Duplicolor to go the wrap route. I'm at this moment taking a break from spraying on the sealer. According to directions it needs to be heated to 400 degrees to cure but it doesn't say that it needs to sit for as long as the paint did. I'll post how it goes.
Bitter did you wrap yours yet?

Its not a straight bolt on. Still needs a little piping welded like the corolla ones. I have it. And you need to find a way to connect the O2 sensor.

my ebay header wrapped. HUGE drop in engine bay temps! 30 mile drive on the expressway and the hood is cooler than if it had been sitting out on a sunny day. the header can be touched with bare fingers without getting burnt.

i know it looks shabby at the bottom, the 2" wrap wasnt the best choice to wrap where the runners join.

They are at the top and bottom of the runners. They blended in when I did the silicone treatment. Also DEI says that if you have too much overlap that the header could be damaged. It is on thier site at www.designengineering.com

hey guys, sorry about this, but i was wondering does anyone know the cable/lead running just above the manifold? cause it's been puzzling me cause i'm not sure what it is, so i can go out and get one, cause that cable is in pretty bad condition in my car, the plastic keeps snapping when u move it.
