My 94 GT failed the emissions test and so I thought I would be mr. fixit and replace the fuel injectors among other things.
First of all - the injectors are a pain in the axx to get to but when I finally replaced them, I'm not entirely certain I seated them correctly. I put everything back together and started the car and now the engine shakes and hesitates from the get go and doesn't get any better after warm up. I had a perfectly smooth engine and now it acts like the engine is missing a piston. Before I go to the work of getting at these stupid injectors again I wanted to see if it sounds likely that my problem is related. Well, if your engine was running perfectly before, you shouldn't have screwed with your injectors first.
If you failed emissions with a 5sfe, its most likely EGR or exhaust system related. Also, don't buy a new 5sfe like you mentioned in your other thread. Oh, man! You don't think I'm beatin my skull against the brick wall enough already for frickin with my injectors. Now you've spun me into deep, dark, self-mutilating depression.
I'll keep messing with all the exhaust stuff. It's a bit of a goose chase. I follow the tests that the Chilton's recommends and they don't necessarily turn out the way the book describes them. The mechanic I trust has disconnected his phone so I'm ruling out taking it to a shop for now. -------------------- 94 CelicaGT producing massive amonts of NOx - UGH!!!

take out the rail again and see if you can get it to seat better. also make sure you reconnected all your vac lines.

Your car is OBD-I, which means if your readings are too high for emissions you can probably just throw on a new cat or two and you're good to go. It depends on what you failed for, then formulate a plan of attack.
Mine failed for the gas cap seal which is considered emissions in NJ. 6 dollars later that same day I got passed, no problems. If its just a high reading when they hook up the sensors then check things like your exhaust system that it's not rusted and spewing fumes from under the car, or cats are shot. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Do you have 2 cats on your 94? I can't find a cat anywhere on the bottom of the car - just a resonator thing and the muffler. I can only assume that its under the exhaust manifold heat shield like on my wife's Camry.

can you give me the readings of the emmissions test? Could very likely be an O2 sensor. Thats whay mine failed. I think it was high CO.

Check to ensure al the injector plugs are connected properly. Sounds like one could be loose or have a bad connection.

If you didnt seat them correctly they would be leaking fuel. Maybe you got a bad injector or clogged the injector during installation. It seems first you need to fix the problem that came about after the injector installation. Next, your car barely failed. Could still be a bad o2 sensor. Maybe check the toggle of the sensor through the DLC1. Let me know when you get it running as it was before. brian
