ok so i'm sure alot of you have heard that the government is pulling out alot of non essential troops and sending in government contractors. they're paying about $100k non taxable for a year. now if you had the option to do this would you take it? if so are you married, single, prior service?

Nope. My parents wouldnt allow me or my brother to go there.

Its not worth the money to go there. I would like to travel to the middle east though like Lebanon or somewhere rather safe. Im intrigued by that area

ok just to clarify. it's on a military base and you don't leave basically you sit there out of harms way and collect a paycheck. every three months you get 10 days off and an extra $1k dollars for a plane ticket to wherever you want to go. and yes most people don't get a full $100k but with the job that i'd be doing i'd "work overtime" which would equate to between $100k and $130k. i just don't know it's a good opprotunity and i'm not worried about the danger i mean this is what i've been trained for. the only problem i have is leaving my wife for a year. then again i would be able to see her every 3 months and i have the option to leave whenever i want to. hm...it would create a good base as far as my retirement goes not to mention what i could do to my car with a fraction of that money. i dunno what do yall think?

All i'm going to say is this- If it wasnt a risky job to take up, they wouldent be paying you that kind of money. Most jobs that require a college degree don't come close to paying that kind of money anytime soon out of school...

that's true. but all i'm going to say is the government is probably compensating for, and i mean no disrespect by this, people like yourself not wanting to do it so they have to pay some good money to convince people to do it. don't get me wrong if i was 100% going to do it i wouldn't be asking yall's opinion i just dunno. another thing is i don't know that i want to do it because if i go over there for a year and make $100k it would be hard to come back here and get another job makeing WAY less while i go to school. i just think it may be too good of an oprotunity to pass up.

My best friend left for basic training in the army yesterday... after basic, she goes into AIT (advance individual training) to become a medic... she has a high chance of getting sent to Iraq frown.gif

Also... My bf has been wanting to do military for the longest time, but he's been holding back because of me... I feel kinda bad, but at the same time I dont want anything to happen to him

Since you have a wife, don't do it. She is more important than 100k.

I'd go. You are trained for this. You will be on a military base. And you get 10 days off every 3 months. 100-130k a year. Sure, a wife is more important than that, but just think of what you could to for her, or could do together, with that extra money coming in. Especially if you have the option to leave at any time. It'd be hard to leave her, but it's what you're trained for. Everyone else on here is talking from a point of view of not having ever served, so they only know how dangerous it is based on the news. But most people don't know that there are safe places to go in Iraq and Iran. You just don't hear about them. I'd go for it, personally.

a lot of people die there on a daily basis that you normally dont hear about. you would probably be one of them. its not worth it.

if you want to make a quick 100grand, go invest in realestate or something.

I had people from my unit that were killed over there. You never heard about them on the news or anything like that. I would go back over there for the 3rd time in a heart beat. You guys that havent been over there have no idea what its like. The only parts that the news shows is that bad part. You make friends over there that you could never make while sitting behind a desk here in the states. Also to know that I helped liberate a country that has suffered years and years of torture makes me feel better too. I would leave my wife and everything else that I have here to go back any day of the week.

the other day my friend and i were driving down coast highway 101 on our way to the beach when we saw a car littered with anti Bush stickers. so my friend reached in my glove box and grabbed my "Viva Bush" sticker and pushed it up against the window for the guy to see. One of the first things the guy said to put Bush down was the "draft" and argued that we will be drafted because of Bush. The first thing my friend and I said was that if we were drafted we would be happy to go to Irag to serve our country.

So would i go to Irag for 100k? Yes. I would go to Irag for a lot less than that. And anyone who wouldnt go to Irag if called upon needs to be kicked out of this country

I would go. The innocent civilians over there have no food, water, or shelter. I would go to help out, because they are so less fortunate then all of us. These are people that need help. Then again so are Katrina victims, but you dont get paid to help out down there. You have to volunteer and spend money. Which sucks casue in some places, it looks like the hurricane hit yesterday, still.

I'd go. It would be an experience you'd never forget. Ya, there is a lot of danger over there, but there's danger getting on the freeway to go to work. I've got friends over there now, and friends who've come back. They all say its something they'll never forget- they mention good time and good memories, and bad time and bad memories.

Its something I'd love to be a part of. I guess my perspective might be different if I felt differently about the situation over there, but I would love to be a part of giving freedom to these people.
