I've driven my dad's 94 DX civic, it's actually what I learned manual on, and it's wayyy slower than me celica GT, but couldn't tell you about an EX civic with VTEC motor vs. ST

I just bought a '96 Civic EX over the weekend and let me tell you, there's NO way a stock Celica ST can beat a stock Civic EX. My civic is automatic but it picks up pretty quick-- ALMOST as fast as my manual Celica GT. The handling isn't as good but I'm impressed. I had a hard time finding another decent Celica so I said screw Toyota and bought this. I don't regret my decision at all.

My new baby, '96 Honda Civic EX.

^ what is that! omg WHAT IS IT! RUN! ITS A HONDA! AHHHHH! lol

idk, the civic has always had close to 100hp...same as the st, so idk maybe its because the civic is newer and has less wear and tear so it has better pick up? idk but i think that a gt (auto or stick) would smash a civic

ps nice mkIII supra (note from background of civic pic)

You must not know much about civics.. As far as the 100 hp goes, it all depends on what type of Civic. This one has 127 hp. Whoo woo! tongue.gif Still slow but oh well, good enough for me.
That's my brother's supra by the way. It's crazy fast and he babies that thing. Spanked a few of those new mustangs.

racing a civic does not make you retarted!

there is nothing like the special olympics, xcept maybe the slow car vs slow car but still

the guy asked if he can win not to be put down

but yeah, you would prolly have him off the line, but once things get at high rpm's, he would get ahead.

hey, i didn't make up that quote. and i'm not calling him a retard or putting him down or what-not. i drive an st and know all about its retarded power. basically, all i'm saying is that there really is no point in racing a civic. not really much of an accomplishment if you win. and street racing is bad. the race will probably be over by the time they reach the speed limit, but still.

what the hell? anyways, an EX would smash an ST, but EX vs GT it should be pretty close.

Umm, celica st should be able to beat a civic 4 door dx at least because of weight. But still, like this quote, "racing a civic is like racing in the special olympics. even though you win, you're still retarded." It should be more like "racing a civic is like racing in the special olympics. even though you win, you're still a loser." Its useless at the end.

my stick ST ran vs a auto vtec civic...i won, off line, and when we rolled...i won in turns, i won in the 45mph roll...
it was an auto tho.

i dont want to be slow anymore, our cars are fun...honestly with a stick u have a enough speed at hand to do some cool stuff...but my baby is gunna ger a bigger engine soon...civics wont be a thing then.

i just dont like those darn things cause everyone has one...and they ghetto.
a 96 civic looks like a 96, every one ask's me if my 96 is new...

what's worse is when people mistakenly call our cars an integra!

anyway, I was on the freeway today, everybody was driving real slow (like 60) in all lanes and I was getting pissed, so I finally was able to get ahead of everyone so I just pushed that pedal down, a couple seconds later I'm going about 90 when this red integra is coming up on me fast, he changes lanes and zooms past me at at least 110... so there is power to be had in a civic/integra, but stock for stock I think a celica would beat a civic (ST beating a DX, and GT beating an EX or SI) however, as this integra passed me, I caught a glimpse of his altezza taillights and I couldn't help but chuckle.

now here's one for you, who'd win, a GT celica w/ injen intake (manual) or a bone stock mitsubishi lancer ES (auto). my thoughts are Celica=135 hp in 2400 lbs. and lancer=120 hp in 2600 lbs. but what do you think? this guy I work with just got a lancer and thinks he can beat me...

Power to weight the celica hould waltz over the lancer. On another slightly unrelated note I had to laugh a while a go someone in a Mazda Astina (not sure if you have them in the US but they are a 1600cc) tried to have a go against my cousin (with myself) in his 500hp+ nissan GTR, that was funny!

hmm... depends on the year, the 92-95 civic SI (which is what I was going off of) only has 125 hp. I just looked up the stats on the later SI's and it turns out the 99+ has 160 hp, so maybe the celica couldn't take those years. but I'd take my sister's 2002 civic EX sedan any day biggrin.gif

I've driven both my dad's 94 civic DX and my mom's 2004 accord EX (4 cyl. not V6) and they both feel so much slower than my celica.

and yes, you read that right, everyone in my family (of a driving age) drives a honda, except me, I'm the rebel who bought a toyota. tongue.gif

Who will Win??????????

I just moved to Tahoe CA (6000 ft elevation sucks 4 speed). The chick I’m roommates with is dating some dude with a 96 (i thnk) 1.6 civic. He just finished putting in his new header, CAI, and a Cat back. My 95 Celica ST has a CAI, , exhaust and a new clutch......

Any guesses?

if his is dx or lx, you've got him, if it's hx you probably still have him, if it's ex you have a slim chance, and if it's si then NOPE! of course, if it's a 96 then it's not an si, they didn't start making the si for that generation until 99 I believe.

the geo, when stock with 2 fat chicks in it in addition to me, pulled on a mid 90's 4 door white civic with EASE from a 20mph roll. i had just finished a right turn, and i saw the asshole that had been tailgating me coming up in my mirror. so i pegged the gas. he caught up even and then fell behind by 1/2 a length. by that time i was doing 5 over the speed limit so i let off, he kept going a car length then turned left.

similar thing happened to an OLD camry that had been tailgating me then tried to cut infront of me on the shoulder approaching an overpass.

0-60 st maybe top end all out speed the civic will have you , my wife has a 93 civic 1.5l dx 2door i have a 94 st 1.8l both automatics from a stop i jumped out ahead of her 0-60 after that her car slowly came up and pasted me i could not pass the 107 mph mark the celica just did not have any more the civic just keep going ,she said it stopped aroung 124mph kindasad.gif now the mods on the civic at the time was a cai,header,2.5 exhaust with high flow cat and muffler a larger throttle bodie ,a sport compact igntion system and full interior, the celica at the time was a cia ,header ,3 in exhaust from the header back with high flow cat a fmu with 10.5mm spark plug wires a high out put ignition and all the interior was out but the two front seats, wink.gif this was all before my turbo was put in the celica now its a different story -HAA_HAAAA laugh.gif

*sigh* once and for all:

"Racing a civic is like competing in the special olympics, even if you win, your still retarded"

now that thats done, I dont see why people hate civics, there obviously not meant to be fast stock, niether is the celica. I you want a fast car, buy a fast car. If you want a faster car for a little bit of money, buy a civic.

I did a bit of research and I believe it is a 95 EX with 1.6 liter, 125hp engine stock, to my 1.8 110 stock.... this isnt sounding too g00d but we'll see........maybe ill just get this car..... wink.gif

http://www.youtube.com/v/5zCGPjgxc9M

I own a 94 Celica GT and a 95 Honda Civic Ex.
The Celica has DOHC 2.2 liter engine with 5 speed transmission
The Civic has SOCH 1.6 liter vtec engine with a 5 speed transmission.
My 94 Celica GT has better power from idle to 4000 RPM.
The 95 Honda EX has better power from 4000 to 7200 RPM.

I could drive either one and have an advantage if I could manage a few variables.

1. If I was in the 94 Celica GT. I would only race extremely short distances like only one or maybe two upshifts and shift before 4600 rpm. Anything above 4600 rpm in my GT the power curve falls off and any advantage I might have is probably lost.

2. If I was in the 95 Honda Civic Ex. I would only race where I could use rpm above 4000 through 7200 for at least two or three two upshifts. The longer the race the better I'll do. The more time I can be using high rpm the advantage is mine.

3. I don’t know about your particular Celica.

• If your particular Celica has more power than mine than you may hold the Civic off for a few short time until he gets to take advantage of the power available in the higher rpm range.

• If you have less power than my Celica I would say that you going watch him pull right past you. This is assuming equal driving skill, equal street tires, equal transmission type, and both engines being close to stock configuration.

I like the vid. This one’s kinda similar.

I prefer my Celica.

dude. he had a terrible start too, he sat there for almost a second after the green light lit up. I think he might've been able to pull off 8.0 or even 7.9 if he had a better launch

EDIT: wait, does he have to wait until that light way down the track lights up before he can go? (at about 37 seconds into the clip) sorry, I don't know much about drag racing.

you guys are starting to sound like a honda forum kindasad.gif the gt does not weigh 2400 lbs, thats the st territory, the gts are more like 2500-2600 lbs, 2001 and under civics are close to 2200 lbs for coupes/sedans and the hatchbacks are nearly 2000-2100 lbs, and a bunch of mis-pointed info, blaghh.....forget it.....

to the thread starter, you gotta be more specific mang, what year civic with what engine, auto or manual, etc etc,.....hondas have a good top end, sorry to say our celicas do not, the st can probably keep up with non-vtec civis stock for stock, for the vtec civics the st has no chance stock for stock auto vs auto manual vs manual and granted both drivers are equally matched, but seriously guys, lets not bench race here,.....just face the fact that the st are slow and the gt is not far behind according to my "quarter mile" thread and 5-spd gt celicas running 17s

unfortunately, civic owners dont seem to realize how bad of rep civics are, untill they've become a non-honda owner themselves or similiar,

You start when the green light (the lowest on the tree) shines for your lane. The first portion of the vid does not show us the Supra's start light. The second part (in the car) does. smile.gif

man, last night I lost to a VW passat! I was at a red light, and he was pulling up to the red light... so my excuse is that he started from a 3-4 mph roll and I was at a stop. but I was accellerating pretty quick, but he was still accellerating faster... by the time we were going around 45 mph his rear bumper was pretty much even with my front bumper. so he wasn't that much faster than me... but still, it hurt...

THAT JUST MADE MY NIGHT! thank you! LOL laugh.gif
