Thats not a good mpg. Try filling the tank, run it until the low fuel light comes on. Then fill it and divide the miles you went verses the gallons you used. Much better way to get an accurate reading. I have a 95 gt 5 speed and I get 25-30 mpg city/highway. Theres either something wrong with the car or your driving.

manual cars usually get better gas mileage. but your auto is pretty bad. you should try to get a tune up before the meet. wouldn't wanna run out of gas when we cruise.

200 miles to a tank is poor. I get 375-400 when the needle is on the empty line.

I get a little over 600km's to a tank. Cost's me about $50 to fill @ $1.10/Liter (in Canadian funds). so i believe 20mpg is quite bad.

smile.gif yeah i get from 29-31 highway/backroad. I would reccomend a serious tuneup if you are only getting 20 mpg.

Its more than likely an o2 sensor. Unless you have aftermarket plugs.

Why would you do this to figure out your gas mileage? Running out of gas is very bad for your motor. Any and all sediment on the bottom of your fuel tank has been sucked up, has clogged your fuel filter, and anything that made it through the filter, has combusted in the engine. If you need a better way to figure out MPG, PM me, I'd be happy to tell you.

I just read this post... CHECK ENGINE light! Read my previous post to see WHY your check engine light is on.

changing the octane is not enough of a difference to make your mpg normal. Id get that thing checked at an autozone or something, they do it for free. but IMO, its prob an o2 sensor, those things are a b****

good call Dom. Its much better for the car to do a complete fill up, set the tripometer then go til the light comes on , take those miles, and divide them by the number of gallons in the tank. that way you wont "suck bottom" wink.gif

Running out of gas is also bad for your fuel pump. Your fuel pump is located in the fuel tank so that the fuel keeps the pump cool. If you have no or low fuel, there's nothing else to cool the fuel pump so it heats up. This cuts down the life of your fuel pump. So the best way to keep your fuel pump lasting longer is to keep your tank full smile.gif , well maybe it doesn't have to be on FULL, but atleast have a good amount in your tank haha. laugh.gif

Well the octane shouldn't really affect mpg, our cars (and i mean N/A models) should run better on 87 or 89 than it would on 91 or higher. The only difference in the octane rating is how resistant it is to combustion. The higher octane, the more it takes to ignite it. That is why Turbo and high compression cars run higher octane gas becuase running higher octance just decreases the chance of detonation, or a misfire. Um i just went to get some food and came back and forget what i was talking about, so thats all you get haha laugh.gif

and sometimes when i drive the celi, it runs and runs til it dies, than i hear a bogging noise and when its really empty i hear like a beatle's put put, is that bad?

Which turbo lag??? Ive driven the car with the 3s-ge of course. And it behaves just like a 3s-ge untill you get to around 3000 rpm and start to think there is something done in the engine bay laugh.gif

smile.gif You could start by checking your O2 sensors. Whether it would be 1 or 2 sensors, it might have gone bad that's why your check engine light is on and your fuel mileage is bad (Happened to my car when I had the 7AFE motor in it). Change those and...then get a tune up. That should fix your problem.

Did you ever pull codes for the check engine light? The light is the computer saying theres something wrong. Thats probably your gas mileage issue. Im betting its code 21 O2 sensor. biggrin.gif

That wont do much good. unless you get the car running the way its suppost to. Then it is still a waste of money. Stop beating around the bush. Diagnose the MIL and get it fixed right!
