I've had coilovers on my car for over a year now and one just started sqeaking over every change/bump/hole on the road. Does this mean its shot, or its just making noise.....can I stop the noise? Thanks for any help on this....and i haven't looked around yet so if this is discussed elsewhere let me know. Thanks,

Darin

Hit it up with some WD40 and see what happens. If that does not work try some Duct Tape wink.gif (joke)

what kind of coilovers? your gana wana check the rubber rings around the strut between the sleve to ensure there not torn up, and check the rubber ring pads between the springs and the top and bottum purch. also check that its not the shock, I bet its the shock over the coilover, make sure you have the bump stop in it (stock one cut in half is best)

and wd40 it, but watch out dont wana get even the smallest drop of wd40 on your breaks.

Also when are they squeaking? uptravel or downtravel? How much has your car been lowered?

The squeaking stopped due to the power of WD-40, thanks for the recommendation.... but my coilover in the front left makes a creaking noise like the spring is shifting whenver i turn sharply like in parking lots thats been going on for about 6 months now, Maybe the spring just shifts everywhere? Thats my next issue to tackle.... my car is lowered about 2 inches i'd say.

The spring could be popping in and outta space when the suspension extends past the springs length, cause when you lower your car via coilovers, you're moving the springs seat(or boot)down on the strut, and when your suspension travels down because of a dip in the road or bodyroll w/ the inside suspension extending the strut is extending out farther than the length of the spring, thus spring shifts.

Helper springs are very short very soft springs that sit on top of your regular springs and under normal conditions these springs are fully compressed, but when your strut extends past the length of the spring the helper springs "help" by extending out to keep the spring from popping out of place(which can cause serious problems coming out of a hard turn).

you could always try greasing the top caps of the front coilovers. i doubt under normal conditions your suspension is exceding the total height of the springs. it would take a large bump to do that. if you're just in a parking lot, and it's creaking, then the springs probably are moving just a little, but a little grease will let them do this, without compromising any performance.

I put lithium grease on all the moving parts before installing mine to avoid this. You may want to try that.

CV joints usually don't make creaking noises.....

Before you put WD40 on the shock, you should have checked to see if there was any fluid on it. It could be leaking.
Also, WD40 isn't good to put where it will come in contact with rubber....
You should try silicone or teflon spray.

The shocks came with the springs as one package, right?
If so, the shock travel should match the spring.....

Are you sure it's not your swaybar bushings?

I will get around to trying grease as soon as I can, I can tell you its not a cv joint cuz i've replaced that on past cars and the spring is not shifting out of its place so no worries there. Swaybar links? i don't think it could be that cuz theres no creaking or clunking on normal or even fast corners and I assume i'd hear that all the time if it was. I didn't buy springs with struts as a package deal. I will get back to you all again once i snag some grease from my dad... biggrin.gif
