I've decided that If i loose my Accord and get a check cut due to a total loss- I will possibly have my 5S-FE rebuilt because it's had leaky valves/headgasket for a good 30,000 miles now... Anyways, What do the knowledgeable people here think is a reasonable amout to spend to have this done? I'm assuming with a rebuild, you get new gaskets, valve seals... Am i right? Anything else I should have done If I go this road? I have a 95 with 150, 3XX on it- any help would be greatly appreciated smile.gif

A true rebuild is more than re-seated vavles and gaskets. It covers new bearings, new pistons with re-honing of the cylinder walls, etc. It costs about as much as you can't do + parts... (est 1500-3000 parts and labor depending on how extreme you wanna go)...

IMO... always cheaper and more practical to simply replace with a lower mileage motor than to rebuild an old one.

Here are a couple things you should really ask:

"What are all the components that come with the installation?"
&
"Is there a warranty?"

I kinda got screwed over, apparently new motor mounts weren't on the list with the new motor I got, but I did receive a 3 Year/ 120,000 Mile Warranty on the engine. I also had many new components, I had to pay extra, but labor was knocked off becuase everything was already out, so they cut me a break. For the engine alone I payed 2500 for the rebuilt ~30k mile 5sfe. Thats my $.05.

**edit** the engine was from Mid-Atlantic.

Well, I had the engine rebuilt in my 94, and it came to a little over $3k.
