Okay, here's the deal. I found a kid selling a 3sgte longblock from a 1989 alltrac. (ST165) So my first question is how easily will it bolt up to my '94 GT? Will my motor mounts, tranny, ecu, etc. all work? Secondly, my biggest concern is power. I know the ST165 usually only has under 200hp, but my question is what is it exactly that makes the newer 3s so much nicer? Is it a bigger turbo? If so, this engine doesn't come with a turbo, so what if I just get a ST195, or ST205 turbine? Also, this engine is completely rebuilt and never ran. It was bored .030 over, and it has forged pistons, h beam rods, steel crank, and completely rebuilt head. How much of a difference will the bored pistons make? Can I beef this engine up to get over 300hp? Or is that just pretty much impossible with an ST165? Lastly, do you guys think it's a good deal? He's selling it for $500 which means I could probably get it for $400. I've never priced the ST165...is this a decent price?

Please give me your feedback, all. I want to call the kid back by tomorrow with an answer, so let me know what you think. Thanks...

If it's just the long block, then i would stay away. for one, your taking a gamble buying an engine that hasn't even been ran yet, so you don't know if it does. but more importantly, you will have to track down a lot of other parts just to complete the swap. I say just save up your money for the st185 clip if you want to do the swap. It would be a lot easier. I bought an ST185 engine awhile back, but it's just been sitting there collecting dust becuase i can't even find a lot of the parts i need for the swap. Save time, get a clip.

hmmm....thanks for the imput. Here's my thoughts. I'm confident it would run. It was just completely rebuilt, new everything, and I'd check it out before I bought it. It's got the head and value cover off so I can look it all over. As far as what you said about not being able to find parts...that is a serious concern of mine. I'm not afraid to built an engine from ground up to make it really nice, but parts might be an issue...

the 165 is gonna be almost 20 yrs old.
even if its rebuilt, your still looking at a 20 yr old block, and accessories.
finding all the proper parts to make it work in the 6gc is more trouble than its worth if your not starting with every single peice you need.
like i said.
stay away.
you'd be much better off with a 185 or 205 clip.
BTW, if your thinking of buying this cause its "cheap"...trust me, by the time your done, it wont be.
