Okay, so i really dont like the gold on black effect, or gold at all. But my celi has a huge, gold, annoying, I'm assuming stock pinstripe, on it. Can I take this off with a heat gun, or will that damage the paint? One of my friends keeps trying to get me to borrow his heat gun that he uses to make plexiglass tail lights. So I have one available if it will work. Thanks for the help

first, make sure your paint hasnt faded too much by testing a small section, you dont want a noticeable stripe after removing the pinstripe. i took miine off, but it was the biggest pain in the ass ever. had my brother help me and it still took forever. can use a heat gun (just be careful not to overheat any spot), but if you let your car just sit out in the sun, just as good if not better. set aside some time to get it done, because it will take longer than you think. the stripe tears very easily, especially if it is worn, so its a slow process. then i used goo-gone to get rid of the left over residue.

use a heat gun. like celicast said, dont let it overheat. use low setting if the gun has one. letting it sit in the sun for a few hours works even better
when i took the striping off my rx7 i warmed it up, then used a putty scraper covered with some tape, and went slowly. This post has been edited by 6gsillyca: Aug 30, 2006 - 3:20 PM |

Done. I did it last night, after: 3 hours of a little technique I call pointer and thumb scraping, and 1 and one half bottles of GOO BE GONE, i was finished. It looks a lot better. So much cleaner, I managed to get some before pics, but no after yet. I will post them when I get a chance. Thanks for all your help!
