So I never really was a fan of Evos till I drove in one last night. Oh goodness! Theyre nice cars. I get to drive one next week so im stoked for that! Their stock seats are really comfortable too!

I wish I could afford one :-(

Anyone driven one and had a good/bad experience?

its a great car. the brakes, hadling, grip and power is really well balanced too. you start to realize why they gave the car racing seats from the factory. it also makes 20psi of boost at 3k from the factory and is emissions legal. thats just totally awesome!

i got to drive an evo8 and went for a ride in an evo9. they were pretty close to my celica with maybe a little more power, and a lot more traction. id love to race one from a roll one day.

ive never been in an sti tho. from what i hear, they do well, but the handling and mod potential isint as good as the evo.

DSMs respond well to mods, hell the hard pipes alone do a massive change. STI's have a better transmission, but in my personal experience (i dislike subaru for its owners) the car is well made the evo just drives itself. My friend drives a gt35r, ams front mount ect ect, 25psi. But from a dig my mr2 has no problem in the 1/4 or autoX. As dumb as it sounds, I loved the ability to angle my headlights in the evo its so cool. Definatly a fun car. But the lotus elise /drool

I couldn't have said it better myself.

The evo / sti are one step away from a Neon SRT-4 in terms of the ugliest car with respectable power (personal opinion).

I dunno about that, I mean I think all sti's are ugly as hell. the srt-4's are some of the worst cars ive ever seen. The evo (to me) looks good, i think they are still mostly a box on wheels, but thats sorta like some of the supra guys who rock stock bodys going around saying "best of show". but then agian sports sedan vs sports CAR are diff leagues.

minus all the ugly stickers and crap and this is one of my fav evos.

true. I don't think stock body supras are the end all hotness "B.O.S" body but they are damn fine! (obviously i am a bit bias - but i respect all car designs if they are good...that being said, I still don't like the looks of the evo. lol!)

I dont understand the above statement.

Evos and STI's look about the same to me....like you said, boxy sedans...I will add: "with ricey hoods and wings".

my statement was, ive gone to some car shows just wanting to see my cars limits. And have seen some supra guys (not singling them out there are MANY OTHERS TO) who get enraged when their stock bodied car isnt best of show. One incident is a local show a supra owner got into a HUGE fight because his rims and 100 decals didnt win over a civic. He proceeded to drifto the turn and slam into a tree. I was entertained, i think everyone has their own tastes. Thats why for the money id rather have an elise I cant help but turn my head everytime I see one.

There are just some cars that have beautiful looks, widebody FC's, ANY FD, CS 5th gen celicas, S15's, kouki s14's to me all have a degree of style. I just cant get into a car that everyone is afraid to modify. Most evo/sti people dont do anything to the exterior, its always the same thing. Exhaust, bov, intake and you think your the fastest. Im glad you enjoy your car but dont freaking hit WOT every light to light thinking your some hot stuff.

An EVO owner sumed it well for me, he said:

In boost he can pass just about any average car, while watching the gas needle go down.

Out of boost he gets passed by everyone and their mother.

I do like the Evo's but after owning a VR-4 I know an Evo is a car that won't make me happy.

Hey true ricers don't even have boost. biggrin.gif Wanna let you know first, Evos are great cars, but they put a big dent in your pocket every month, and I'm sure full coverage insurance for a 20 year old will be the same as the car payment.

I can see how you think the VR-4 and Evo are alike, but my experience, very different. Think of a VR-4 like a touring car, and the Evo as a rally car. The small stock turbos (I can't afford a turbo upgrade) spool very differently than an Evo, and at much lower RPM. An Evo owner I know, thinks a VR-4 is better on the highway (smooth torque and acceleration, much longer gears). [Sorry I don't mean to go OT, but I gotta add that I gained 20awhp and 46awtq, 2800rpm, from full exhaust] I know the Evo handles better, and I do wish my car weighed more like an Evo, instead it's a pig at 3800 pounds dry.

Going from a Celica to an Evo you will be very happy, just be careful about the monthly $$$. Possibly 4 dollar signs? wink.gif

i don't know if turbo 4's are different, but i do NOT have to hit boost to keep up with traffic unless on a pretty steep hill.
and even then it's like 5psi max. . .

exhaust comment came after comments of mpg hurting with a turbo, which lost me, because to help gas mileage i'm guessing you'd want a more restrictive exhaust. . .better low end, that is unless you're talking about acceleration and boosting.

evo9s running ~20psi stock is AWESOME smile.gif
what numbers do they have now?

i respect the cars greatly, but i gotta say that i'm not a fan of the 4-door.

IMO, Jay and I are seeing eye to eye on this one. Ya evo's are fast, but you can have something thats just as fast and looks 10 times better. I dont agree with what people are saying about STi's tho. Im a huge fan and always will be. I fell in love the first time that i drove one. I've driven and evo 8, and i felt, ... bulky. i dunno. and srt-4 owners, are just mostly ex-neon owners, that are like OMFG A TURBO! lets BOV like 283452875275 times at every stop light!

SRT-4's are what F-bodys were back in the late 90's--cheap and fast out of the box, and that pissed everyone off because some idiot could go buy a car that'd blow the doors off of theirs, so they automatically said it was crap and that all the owners were idiots.

When in reality it's all just jealousy.... maybe not of the car itself--but of the speed.

The truth is that there's not much out there (new) that's faster for your dollar than an SRT-4. It's been like that since they originally went on sale. Tack on excellent aftermarket factory support and you've got a formula for success.

Even the old Neon DOHC coupes could spank any stock/lightly modded 6gc up and down all day. Some people just don't like to admit the truth because it's 1) a Dodge and 2) a Neon.

i was a big fan of the srt4 when it 1st came out. i mean, you have to give props to doge for making a car like that, for that price.

now as more time goes by, im begining to realize that they are the new civic in the car world. all these young kids buy them and do alot of ricer mods. i see so many of them with dumb side exhausts, bad rims, and all kinds of other crap.

i dunno about the srt-4. cuz yeah, 1) its a dodge and 2) its a neon. but evo's and sti's are the hotness. turbo-charged awd power. but of course they're not as sexy as the gt-four. in fact i think they look ugly without their spoilers, which is something i cannot say about our celicas.

Some people just don't like to admit the truth because it's 1) a Dodge and 2) a Neon.

jealosy? Come on now. I have admitted they have respectable power. I just wouldn't buy one because they look like dog do-do.

greening, go take one for a test drive. just for fun.
