check it out guys, so far the RC1 has been going very nicely. No bugs found as of yet (by me personally) its very fast, and the color schemes and graphics are nicely done.

This is Windows Vista RC1, I was in on the beta 2 version so the key still works. The version is 5600. The coolest feature I found is the sleep mode. You put your PC to sleep and it completly shuts it down, then you press the power button again and your PC boots up in under 4 seconds. Very cool feature. (And when I mean boots up, I mean from being turned off to being logged in and ready to use the pc.)

I have to install it as of yet.

They are trying to get me over to BDD for Vista, I dunno that the boss will allow beta software on work machines though.

I have issues with my X1800XT being flased with a custom BIOS only with Vista, no matter if it is a install or PE. No other OS, XP, and a few distros of Linux have had issues.

Oh well.

i cant wait for it to go rtm. its been a while since we had a new OS.

i have a strong feeling that visa's look and color scheme will get a drastic change when it hits the final version. they did the same thing when XP was still in beta.

Working the XP beta sucked.

Vista isn't really much better, but hopefully they will throw some bones our way and let some of us have a glimpse of what the retail will look like before it hits the shelves.

I gotta try out OOBE (out of box experiance) with Windows PE and then make it a build.

im pretty sure you can do all those nifty things with linux, my cousin uses gentoo (spelling?) and he runs 4 or 6 desktops at a time that rotate on a 3D object, he can grab the edge of it with his mouse and spin it around, throw one onto another monitor, or even another PC!

linux is the ****. My friend is learning it on his laptop, and he always rides shotgun when ever we go driving around in the celica, and he just hotspots around and hacks into other peoples serves since there really isnt too much protection against linux. Or something like that. I really dont know how he does it, he just says that linux is the OS to use for hacking and not windows.

im learning (slowly) to use gnome based xubuntu on a slower box thats meant to just serve files. laugh.gif im having some difficulty installing the video driver and i need to mount my NTFS drive and install samba and set up all that stuff. its slowly coming to me, xubuntu runs pretty quick considering how slow of a machine it is. i got my dad to try ubuntu live cd on his machine, i think he likes it and will probably dual boot with XP when he reinstalls XP to his new faster hard drive.

anyone can try Vista RC1 - Microsoft is handing out beta keys & full dvd iso images on their site.

although, i'd recommend setting aside a seperate partition so you don't hose your existing XP setup. the cd key you get should last for 3 months or so. i've heard from a lot of various sources that this RC1 (which is after beta stage, sort of a 'wannabe retail' version) is more like a progressed beta, it's got some rough edges to it.

remember that you'll need vista compatible hardware, and drivers to get stuff to work right.

what is so good about vista? (I dont know anything about it) The only motive for me to buy vista was because it could utilized 64 bit cpu structure.

Is the 3d desktop actually usefull?

its more secure then xp was.
the desktop graphics are all rendered with 3d hardware acceleration, and not in 2d mode like they were in xp.

forget RC1, get the RTM (release to manufacturer) final version

Windows_Vista_RTM_build_6000_16386

although its an offsite link, its genuine. you can even have microsoft validate it here

^ note: that would not be a leagal copy.

a few cool features, i have RC1 on my laptop at work, runs good considering my laptop is a 1.4 ghz celeron with 512mb ram, cool part is it runs decent on that low of a system, but I dont get the aero stuff, my ALT-TAB is pretty standard. vista does let you use a usb drive to exspand system memory, my HD is pretty small so it uses 826mb of my 1gig usb flash drive, and there are noticable gains. also the file indexing is pretty slick, makes searching for files very quick. gadgets are sweet, I have a city temp one, cpu monitor, C drive monitor, memory monitor, mini outlook, battery monitor, wireless connectivity monitor, and IP/NIC info. (I kinda went overkill on em i know but does not really slow the pc down by having them there just XML docs.)

RDC is diff, kinda annoing with all the new popups and the "enter the user name/password before you connect" crap since I use it so much but no big deal.

I have duel monitors the laptops 15" and a 20.1" the sidebar (gadgets) is moved to the big screen and it handels the 2 screens without issue, also kinda cool for slower systems, when i lanch a game it drops the big screen color quality way down to run the game better.

IE7 is crap frown.gif needs to be patched up like crazy, works but does not support stuff worth crap.

Office 07 is very nice, way better and much more functions.

- my $0.02

I gotta say I use mac ox everyday and Vista is nothing to be Wowed about when your used to osx. I thought it would be better. Windows NEEDS better bundles software...but they'll be sued by every other company...like netscape a while back when they integrated internet explorer in windows.

This kinda suck for them. Because for apple its a VERY BIG selling point and marketing plan, all their included sofware like iDVD, iMovie and stuff..its really nice applications, easily some of the best I used.

and expose just rock! and the dashboard too!
