I would like to know what are the reasons why a celica ST with auto tranny can't use a 4AGXX engine without having to swap the tranny ?

or is this possible ?

Yes... but you'll have to find the right ECU to run the tranny... which could be troublesome because there are several different auto trannies and several different electrical set-ups for each...

Performance-wise... less gears = less revs = less performance. Not worthwhile IMO...

but let me also say dropping the engine in is the EASY part... wiring can become a nightmare if you don't know what you're doing... good luck.

It would be a smarter deal to let someone who already has the experience on making the wiring conversion do it for you. Also, find out what code the auto tranny from the ae111 was so that you can find a good matching tranny from a domestic model. I'm pretty sure you will be able to find a tranny for cheap.

the thing is I don't wanna change my tranny right now, well I can't afford the tranny right now so what I'm trying to do is install the engine with tha auto tranny from my ST, later on in a couple months upgrade to a manual tranny.

I'm thinking to send the wiring to someone with experience.

my friends and cousins are gonna help me, but just as a reference in case I don't know what to do at some point. but i'm trying to have as much info as possible so I'll prolly be able to complete this myself.

you'll need to get as much info about the the A246E and the A241E (i think its the trans that would be mated to the 4age in most applications) and determine if the trans controls are similar as are the final drive and gear ratios. if it all matches up then it could be possible for the 4age pcm to control the A246E.

If your ALREADY typing something like this you havn't thoughtout swaps enough...WAIT, SAVE your money until you can AFFORD to do everything that is needed at the SAME TIME...you really want to do wiring harnesses 2 times?

i have a 7afe manual tranny i could sell you for cheap if you want to cut costs...
