0-60 in 12.5 seconds... still but way over stock.



OH NO! what about rain? I forgot about that, can anybody gimme a suggestion.

yeah... I have a question. why is there a penis on your exhaust manifold's heat sheild?

personally, I don't think that the performance benefit of having the air filter out your head light outweighs the ugliness it brings... and 0-60 in 12.5 seconds? that sounds really slow... even for an ST...

in the second picture, yes. in the first one he's got a custom intake that looks like it uses part of the stock intake, the battery is pushed back and the filter is in front of the battery with a little heat sheild around blocking the heat from the exhaust manifold.

Looks too restrictive. Mine drops down in front of tranny. Be careful with placement...puddles can hydrolock an engine.

The cartoon penis is a nice touch.

lol, meh... the battery'll be okay, i hope? The water/rain situation... thats still out there. I am researching it right now and I beleive that i have to get a large amount into or around the filter, like put it under water for it to decide to suck it up... The worry i have is following somebody and getting it splashed... maybe bypass filter? Also thinking of relocating the intake to infront of the radiator? any ideas?

if you worried about hydor lock put a lil dip in the piping and drill a small hole at the bottom of the dip so water can drain out

hmmm! O_O? a dip? thats a good idea. LOL. never thought of that. hey, speaking of drilling a little hole see that orange thing connected to the intake? thats holding some sort of temperature sensor... its actualy a hitch cover to protect your trailer hitch from rusting.

i dont think a bypass valve will connect to to his tubing thingy and i think a small punched hole will be just fine as long as he put somthing over to keep debre out of it if he make it even big enough for stuff to get in it..

First: I'd like to say good work in terms of making something work for you. I am always a fan of any sort of fab work, so more power to you.

Secondly: that intake will make you lose power as compared to a drop in filter for the stock set up for a few reasons:
1, you kept the restrictive convoluted tube that connects to the throttle body. Being that it is not smooth, it is relatively restrictive.
2. Too many bends. Air flows fastest when it is straight and smooth.
3. You are sucking in hot air both from the radiator and the manifold. The stock set up only takes air in from the from the inner fender which is Far cooler.

Either way, not intake is going to net more than 1-2 whp on a celica, but ehh, if that's your bag, more power to you.

EDIT: and if you are worried about hydrolock, don't be. Where your intake is there will not be enough water to lock your engine. However, the AEM unit is your best bet if you desire such a thing. Drilling a hold in Anything related to intake and leaving it open is a Very Very uberly bad idea... just as a heads up there....

Wow..Ok I totally missed the pic of it coming though the high beam. Few things...

Corrugated tubing = bad idea. Too much surface area. The shape also restricts airflow horribly in more than one way.

You're not technically RAMming air into anything that will make a considerable difference. Air is just flowing though at whatever speed you are driving, no pressure is being applied.

Wouldn't you rather have a nice pretty highbeam that helps vision rather than a red air filter sticking out the nose of the car? People passing it in the parking lot will say..WTF is that?

Fix that battery son. That'll cause serious damage.

With the filter exposed...There's still the possiblity of water settling in the intake (i.e. car sitting in the pouring rain, water gathers) I just wouldn't risk the possiblity of hydrolock.

The best location for an intake filter, i.m.o is right where the stock air box sat. Mine dips in front of the tranny and just don't like it that much. Good thing it was like 20 bucks.

I'm not dogging you, I like the enginuity. But I think you overthought this one. My advice, put that high beam back in, correct the bends and have a straight as possible shot to the stock airbox position with 3" stainless tubing and an airfilter. You'll be straight.

Battery tilted, using stock piping, probably has LESS horsepower! Do your car a favor and never touch it again.

Sealed Lead Acid or a "Dry cell" battery.
The pressure created is a positive pressure, but there are far more effective means to get in it there. However you are just trying with out spending mych money to see if it works. Right?
It will pull in cooler air, but the tubing will allow alot of heat transfer due to its exposed length in the engine compartment. A conical air filter in the stock box location would be better, then some plumbing to the front of the facia, it works, I have a tube and some other stuuf to do to finish mine, but it does work.
There will be no way to dyno this correctly, just mebey some runs at a track, and time sheets.
And last but not least, it is ugly. Really ugly. But for the sake of trying things while haters sit by and scoff? Do it.

That battery "relocation" is bad for so many reasons. If you don't know them, that's why you shouldn't touch it in the first place.

Your filter is in the right place to get rain and bugs and rocks all ready to puncture the filter and then go straight into your cylinders.

I say you put everything back as it was and do normal things, its good to try new stuff..when it has some common sense, research and car knowledge behind!!!

Good job on trying something new. I don't think that's the best thing for a daily driver, but it's still neat. It's all about learning and having fun with the car.
