Yes, it is illegal. My suggestion is don't use it until it's fixed, no one will know.

What happened to it if you don't mind me asking!?
And yes, I suggest getting it fixed. I think it's illegal here too.
Oh, and it's nice to see another fellow Michigander! smile.gif

cool, michiganer! welll, i did some research last night, some long intensive research. from my understanding there is no law stating you must have a highbeam. You must however have two working headlights, break lights, taillights, and all turn signals. Nothing saying "high beam." even go on google and search, "headlight law" then go and search "high beam law". high beam gets like 6 hits, where as headlight law gets like 600,000 hits. I also found out that its a federal thing, not a state thing. BUT I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT ALL OF THIS. so take all my info with a grain of salt.

The reason i ask...

I cut out my highbeam for a RAI... frown.gif stupid i know, but it sounds fun and it drives funner

347.06(3)
(3) The operator of a vehicle shall keep all lamps and reflectors with which such vehicle is required to be equipped reasonably clean and in proper working condition at all times.

This is a $148.20 dollar citation in my state.

Would I ever cite for it? God no, but you can get a citation for any improper working equipment. I've heard of the state patrol issuing a citation for the windshield washer reservoir being empty. This may or may not be the correct statute, but again, I would never use this other then to say hi and fix your light so the state po doesn't get you.
